Scattered.
It's been a crazy, hard week, and I can tell you this: my knitting has helped me stay calm. I'm an anxious girl in general, and part of the reason I fell in love with knitting is its soothing powers. So this week I was knitting like a crazy woman ...
Thus, the Hourglass sweater is almost completed. I have a few inches left on the yoke and then it's time for a collar. And just in time for it to get freakin' cold.

Get yer raglan right here.
I think I might love this sweater a lot. I can't wait to try it on. I am determined to finish this sweater before I knit on anything else .. which of course means that I'm itching to knit something else. But this week, I *only* brought the Hourglass with me, so when my crazy knitting hands started, they only had one project to work on. I normally bring three, which is silliness, but I get bored easily. I'm embarrassed to tell you that I do truly have three sweaters actively on the needles right now...yikes. I guess it's the cold getting to me.
In Sister News, my sister Cathy finished a project that she's long been working on: her pretty blue skinny scarf!

Cathy wants to show you her ends. Don't they look nice?
I think she likes the knitting. More than she's willing to admit. Look how happy it makes her! Smiles all around!
In Pregnant Sister News, we found out this week that my sister Michelle is having a B-O-Y. Whoa. I'm gonna have a nephew! It's strange how finding out the sex of the baby made it that much more REAL. The quest for adorable boy patterns must now commence -- clearly Aunt Carrieoke needs to indoctrinate the boy in the ways of handknits immediately. Oh, tiny schmoo baby clothes are SO. CUTE.
And finally, in Band News, I had a Bling show last week, and we have TWO this weekend. If you live in Atlanta, we will be playing at CJ's Landing on Friday February 3. The website says 9:30pm. Then, on Saturday, we are playing in Athens at the Caledonia Lounge - I think we're opening for Coulier's CD Release Party. (Early shows, both of them, so ya better come if you like to go to bed early ...we usually play super late. Sleepy Carrieoke is happy about the early.)
And that's my weekend. I'm hoping for a finished Hourglass by my next post. Have a great week, and do me a favor -- go and you tell your family and friends that you love them. Even if they already know it.

Debbie Bliss Baby Knits Book (although her stuff is usually big so knit a size small) and PHILDAR PHILDAR PHILDAR! You can FINALLY buy Phildar online. They have great baby stuff.

Hope the craziness abates, or at least that you've successfully found ways to deal with it.
Best wishes for the nephew and your sister! Get knitting! (Dale stuff is adorable, btw.)

Hey Carrie, sorry to hear you had a crappy week! Just hang out with that cool knitting sister of yours and hopefully you can absorb some of the good spread-the-knit-love vibes. Hang in there!!

Wow, I can't get over the sisterly knitting love. Congrats, Cathy on your finished scarf! I'm so bummed that I don't live in Atlanta and thus cannot share in the Bling-ing goodness, but I'm there in (rock star) spirit. And as for tiny baby patterns? I have two words for you: biological clock. My whole life, I've thought children were very small and sticky. I knit the baby outfit for my miscellaneously related cousin and now I can think about is baby baby baby. Just you know, an FYI. Cheers!

Oh I so wish I lived near Athens or Atlanta! I'd so be at your Bling shows!
Congrats on the nephew! He's gonna have such a great handknits wardrobe--thanks to Auntie Carrieoke!

Congrats on the impending nephew!
Here is an adorable pattern for baby boys I made recently: http://pages.e-yarn.com/6030/PictPage/1921941865.html
I am going to do a second version of this sweater but I'm changing the design to be similar to the hat pattern in last month's Magknits. It has a race track on it complete with little race car buttons and knitted traffic lights. The archives don't seem to be working so I can't provide you a link.

I hope your stress lets up soon!

Congrats on the nephew! Knitting for babies is the best--cute and quick. Can't beat that with a stick.

Congrats on being an Auntie-to-be. Have you seen the knit baby jeans in the recent Knitty? Zoe Mellor does have great stuff and she even has a book of big & little patterns so Mommy & Baby can match.

Congrats on the nephew news! I'm also about to become a first time auntie to a nephew. I'm working on the gorgeous but so time consuming Debbie Bliss Baby Knits book Alphabet Blanket for the little guy but am scouting books for cute patterns too! It's pretty bad that my first thought upon hearing the news that it would be a boy not a girl was that I wouldn't get to knit all the adorable girly clothes!

Congratulations Aunty Carrie and Aunty Cathy!!! And Congrats Cathy on the scarf!!!! :) it's perrtty!!
You guys are gonna LOVE being Aunties!!! I really never knew I could love kids so much that weren't mine, but you just DO and it's AMAZING!
Oh, and I made Daisy from Knitty for my friend's daughter and she's worn it practically EVERY DAY since I gave it to her!!! It's a really plain, really easy unisex cardie. I used rowan's all-seasons cotton and it's holding up REALLY REALLY well!! She's even MACHINE WASHED IT AND DRIED IT (which she totally wasnt SUPPOSED to do) and it's OK!!!!

Yay! I can't wait to see a finished Hourglass!

I think next week will be cold...perfect timing for your sweater.
And a baby boy...I'm thinking blue pants suit. Oh. Yeah. With a matching hat and mitten set, of course.
And congrats to Cathy! Rumor has it that you may start a sweater soon ;)

I get the "crazy knitting hands" thing. I have a very unscientific theory that the most fidgety people make the best knitters, and even if they knit for the love of the product and process, really it's Calm-Down Therapy for the Decidedly Twitchy. I know for me it's the only time I can sit still. (Unless I'm reading blog after blog....)

ooh- and I also love this baby sweater:

cabley goodness!

I am doing the same thing- trying to finish a sweater. It is hard not to jump back and forth but I keep telling myself to stick it out! Better to have a finished sweater than lots of unfinished things. We can do it!
GO CATHY! She is the cutest. I love that color on her- so flattering!

Hey Carrie,
I just bought adorable knits for totsby zoe moeller. They have some REALLY cute stuff in it, especially the cover sweater and robin hood jacket with yummy cables!

Not a lot of cute boy patterns out there, but may I suggest Devan from Knitty? Seriously adorable (the sweater too) and it looks like a fast knit. I'll be making one for my son as soon as I get the birthday knitting out of the way...
