Catching Up. It's a Long One.

The re-entry after a long break and a big event is always a bitch. But, my blisters are recovering nicely, and I'm slowly coming down from my post-race glow. Although I admit that I did tell one guy working at a convenient store that I ran a half-marathon. (Um, that person doesn't care.)

But. There are other things to talk about! Woo-hoo! Like, The Pants had a birthday. Now. The Pants likes to guess what he's getting, and he's almost ALWAYS right. It's sort of a pain, because he's very hard to surprise on birthdays and holidays. I did it once before with a PlayStation 2 (even though he might *say* he knew, he totally didn't.) This year, however, I kept my mouth shut, tried to drop erroneous hints, and TOTALLY SURPRISED HIM. WOOT!

Um, is this a Black-Eyed Peas box set?

Wait a minute...is this...schmoo....

Yay! It's an iPod. Drinks all around.

I love surprising him. I get really stressed out about giving presents for some reason -- I'm always worried that the recipient will hate the gift, and then they will hate me. (Which is ridiculous, I know. Yay for irrational fears.) (Many thanks to my sister Cat who sat on the floor at the UPS shipping warehouse (or "the Pit of Hell", as she called it) waiting for the driver to get back so we could have the iPod for Jacob's birthday.)

We celebrated at a Japanese restaurant, where the food and drinks were delicious. I did have a brief run-in with my first drink. It was a yummy Sea Breeze that for some reason caused me to have an allergic reaction:

Yay, a Sea Breeze! Oh, no. a rash on my face.

BUT, I switched to water and beer and it all went away. Weirdness. (My sister and her husband have taken to calling me "Black Cloud" because I seem to have more bad luck than the average bear. Ha. Black Cloud.)

At any rate, the dinner was fun times, The Pants loved his present, and it was a great birthday all around.

In the knitting arena, I discovered another reason why I love High Energy Jenny. We were chatting on the way to lunch and she noticed my Brooks Farm Clapotis over the back of the car seat. (Now, I don't wear my BF Clappy as much as I should. It's beautiful, but Jacob sneezes uncontrollably every time I bring it out, and the colors are kinda so-so on me.) HEJ said how pretty it was, and I told her how I never really wear it. And then - at the same time - I said, "I wish mine was more like yours..." and SHE said, "I don't really wear mine at all." And an idea came to us AT THE SAME TIME:

EUREKA!

We can TRADE CLAPPYS!

And so we did. See:

Clappy Exchange Complete.
And also, DC Jenny and Cathy look cute.

And now I wear it the Clappy all the time! And I've actually run in HEJ around town and we're always both wearing them. Because we are COOL KNITTING DORKS. hahahaha.

Okay, enough rambling for one day. I'm nearing completion of several projects, which I will post about soon. I promise. And also about the celebrity sighting. Thanks for all your happy race comments! I think it's official - I've got the race bug.

I love the clappys! They look great! I'm a long-time lurker on your blog and a knitter/runner as well. Check out my new blog, Exercise Before Knitting!
Cheers,

Happy birthday to the pants! He looks surprised--who wouldn't like an iPod? Communists maybe...

Posted by: Silvia at December 1, 2005 04:51 PM

The Pants was CRAZY SURPRISED! I think he was really touched too. That was also a really cool restaurant.
And the clapitos trade...genius!
I am looking forward to borrowing them both from their new owners.

Yay for the ipod. You are the shizzle my frizzle.

I love that you traded clapotis with HEJ! You two are so smartypants!

yo BC (i'm down w/ the Black Cloud), your eureka moment is perfectly photographed, i love it.

Posted by: carolyn at December 1, 2005 11:46 AM

Hahahahahaha! I gave you the clap.

I took a nap with my clap tonight also. SOFT CLAPPY. Thanks Schmoo!

But I loved your Clappy! Yours was the one that finally convinced me to make one, don'tcha know? (Well, make one after the holidays, that is.)

Posted by: Stacey at November 30, 2005 11:11 PM

Ha, I love your Eureka moment. You guys were totally on the same wavelength, and know you will be connected through your knit stitches for as long as you have your clapotises (clapotii?). That's very cool.

Yay, super sweet gift for a super sweet Pants! My dad makes a game of guessing his gifts before he opens them (seriously. it's not a proper Christmas or birthday or Father's Day without this game) and ALWAYS gets it right too. We've resorted to making ad hoc weirdly shaped boxes and tossing in red herring noisemakers so he can't guess right. =)

And the hives...are you sure you aren't part Asian? We get the 'Asian red.' =}

Trading Clappys? I wouldn't say that in mixed muggle company. They might suspect you of something. NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT!

I can't wait to hear about your race-day Whitney and Bobby sighting (which their personal assistants totally ran for them) (shhhh...It'll be our little secret). Do they make race gear with a secret drug pouch?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACOB!
HAPPY RACE CARRIE!
UNHAPPY ALCOHOL ALLERGY!

Sorry...it's been a long day. I'm more insane than usual.

Awwww, you and HEJ gave each other the Clap! HOW SWEET! ;)

Do me a favor and DONT TELL Brian what you got The Pants for his birthday. That would make my usual gift of a DVD and a high five look really crappy, and I have him fooled into thinking I am a good girlfriend.

Posted by: Sarah at November 30, 2005 05:06 PM

You are too funny. Love the eureka shot!

Posted by: Jan at November 30, 2005 04:50 PM

My friend Lisa hives out when she drinks red wine. Not sure if other alcohol affects her, but the red wine definitely does. It goes away after a half hour or so, so it's not life threatening or anything.

And it's so nice that you were able to trade the Clappys! There's nothing worse than a knitting project that never gets worn.

Happy birthday Pants!!!

Nice trade action going on there too...

BTW, you've inspired me to start trying to jog. I found a beginners training program that I printed but haven't read. Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Posted by: Skylar at November 30, 2005 04:03 PM

Damn, you give niiiice presents. (Mental note not to let my boyfriend see your website, lest he demand a birthday recount...)

Posted by: anne at November 30, 2005 03:22 PM

I'm like Jacob - it drives George crazy - I ALWAYS guess. I guess it could be kind of annoying.

You and HEJ are so cute - trading clappys - are you sure that's safe?

Love that you're so PUMPED! RACE ON!

Posted by: Cara at November 30, 2005 03:13 PM

OH!! OH! Can I be your boyfriend?!?!?! you give such *nice* pressies!!!!! YAY! I'm glad he was surprised!! Happy Birthday Jacob!!!

Also -- the Clappy trade -- GENIUS! I LOVE!
