Fall

This morning when I walked Bella Schmoo McGee, it was a little chilly outside. Hoo. Ray. I've never wanted it to be fall so badly in my life! I'm usually a summer girl, but right now, I want chilliness and closed toe shoes and sweaters. And fireplaces. And scarves.

But, until then, I'll settle for chilly mornings, and having to wear a sweater sometimes. Speaking of sweaters, I'm almost done with Bell Sleeve #2 on the Cutaway! Here's a picture of Sleeve #1 and the Body hanging out together.

They're lurking in a shady corner on campus. They must be troublemakers.

I'm really excited about how this is going to look, although the sleeves are rolling quite a bit at the bottom. Does anyone have any advice for a simple nonrolling sleeve bottom? I was thinking of unraveling the cast-on edge and just doing a few rows of ribbing, or garter stitch, but other ideas are welcome. And requested.

In finished object news, here's something I finished a while ago. I cast it off and promptly put it in the mail for my mom, and she just sent me this picture of her modeling it:

How cute is my mom?

And here's another something that I finished last weekend - a purse using fabulous fabric from Hawaii that High Energy Jenny brought me:

I know it looks crooked, but it really isn't.
The purse, she didn't want to sit up straight for the picture.

I used the super easy Jordy bag pattern - you can find it on craftster.org if you search for "jordy bag". I still need some practice sewing in a straight line, and cutting in a straight line, but I'm getting there. I don't know that I'll ever sew wearable clothes, but it's nice to make a sewing project here and there.

So, there you have it. This weekend: show tonight -- I Am the World Trade Center and Boulevard. Tomorrow, there will be knitting. And running. And watching of Lost. And hopefully some chilly weather. And maybe a finished Cutaway? I know I've said that before...

Your Cutaway looks fabulous, Carrie!

Have you thought about doing an icord at the bottom of the sleeve? It would certainly stop it from rolling, and I don't think it would take away from the line of the sweater.

Lovin' the bag in the very great fabric from Hawaii - and who needs straight lines anyway??? You just go on with your non-conformist self.

And a question for you... did you ever finish the Brooks Farm Clapotis (did I miss it?) I wondered about the mods you made to adjust for the yardage. I've got a skein of Brooks Farm to make a Clappy for my mom (*the picture of your mom made me remember to ask you this) - so I wanted to check in with you about how that went.

I'm with ya on the fall thing. I love these crisp mornings!

Cutaway is looking fab! And I agree, your mom is so cute. She looks like a fun gal.

And love love love that fabric on that purse! My sewing machine is collecting dust in the attic. Maybe I'll bring it down some time and give that sewing thing a go again...

Your mom is lovely! Now I know where you and your sis get your beautiful smiles from :) I too begrudginly welcome fall, loving spring and summer as I do. For all the same reasons!

The bell sleeves look great! They are so very Carrie. I noticed you didn't really describe your crazy antics from the 40 Watt...hrm, maybe in another post...

Your mom looks great in the scarf. It really suits her and could be dress up and go outish or professional go to workish.

And though I am a summer girl too, this weather is totally heaven.

Your mom is so very cute and you have made her even cuter. You did such a nice job with the beautiful fabric gifted to you - so do you carry it now or does it get to rest until next summer? (although after a little "cool" we're back with the heat in the Memphis area for a few more days!)

Love the cutaway. BTW - do any of y'all go to the Southeastern Animal Fiber Festival in Asheville NC coming up in a couple of weeks???? I'm a new knitter so it's not something that would even have been on my radar last fall. My sister lives in that area so I'm thinking of taking a quick trip up her way and making her go with me.

I can't wait for fall! I know that SF doesn't even get that cold during summer, but I still can't wait for fall.

Fall means the three "s"s: Socks! Scarves! Sweaters!

The sweater is very pretty. I love the color. And the bag is really cute! One day I will learn to sew ...

Oh, I hear you about wanting the chilly days. It's been so hot in Pittsburgh this summer, I don't even want to think about what it was like in Georgia! All I want to do right now is wear jeans and sweaters, eat soup and knit something with sleeves. I looooove summer, but jeez, enough is enough!

Do you ever knit with Lycra? That would be cool...

Amelia Raitte (http://autoscopia.com/amelia/) has a nice slip-stitch edging in her September 27 entry, that looks like stockinette but doesn't roll. You have to knit it separately and sew it on, though.

Have the width of the edging around the body of the sweater might look good and tie it together.

Love that the sweater is lounging around with a cigarette butt on the ground - delinquent knits! hilarious :)

Posted by: allison at October 1, 2005 12:31 AM

An inch of seed stitch would stop the rolling. Though I kindof like the rolled edge on the bell sleeves.

I hear you on the fall and the sweaters and the fireplaces. When I first moved to MN, somebody asked if we even HAD fireplaces back in Georgia. Um, yeah...

Posted by: anne at September 30, 2005 11:51 PM

glad you're going out to see some music! Oh, how I miss the 40 Watt!

Posted by: Posturban Naturalist at September 30, 2005 10:57 PM

Maybe seed stitch on the sleeve hems? I like the rolling, though.

I've never been so desperate for fall before either. Each morning I look longingly at my wool socks. Soon!

it was chilly for the first time yesterday! It was fabulous..i *heart* Fall!

Love the belled sleeves (I almost always change regular sleeves to belled!)A rib would be nice, and could match the ribbing on the body.

before I read what you wrote, I thought the bag was asymmetrical and thought "howww cooool!" it's supercute symmetrical too :)

happy knitting and watching lost! (I can't knit and watch it at the same time..it's too intense!)
