Sicky Sick Sick.

I feel like poo today.

So, I'm working at home, and also surfing blogs at home. And adding fringe to the never-ending poncho that is a gift. I recently became worried that this poncho is not cute and will not fit the recipient ... here's a picture so you can judge for yourself. all pictures in this entry taken by talented boyfriend photographer Jacob.

Brown Poncho Time!

Do you think the fringe needs to be shortened? I can't decide. The person who is getting this is taller than me, if that helps. (Sorry I look like SO SO REALLY EXCITED in that picture..I'm trying to combat the sicky poo feeling.)

Anyways. In other happy knitting news, I recently was gifted with some really gorgeous yarn from a generous, thoughtful friend. (I have chosen not to embarrass her by revealing her identity, but she's a SCHMOO, for many reasons other than just her yarn generosity.) The stash includes a ton of Wool Ease that is destined to become a sweater for me very soon, some Noro Silk Garden AND Noro Kochoran, and some 100% silk yarn in absolutely gorgeous deep purples and reds and golds. See below:

um, YUMMY.

What to knit?!? My little knitting hands are dancing around gleefully, trying to decide what to make with the yarn. Yarny yarn yarn, yay. You can see why it's hard for me to finish Jacob's sweater, with all the yarniness that is surrounding me. And also all the sewing that is calling to me... and also, Jacob just showed me that he has Iron On Transfer Paper! A whole package! I could sew up a totebag with a big picture of Bella's face ... not that I would do that ... er.

Speaking of Bella, have you ever seen a dog with such adorably long, skinny legs?

Schmoomy Long Legs.

I didn't think so.

Poncho is awesome! I like the fringe alot. Bella is such a freaking schmoo. She looks like a little puppy in that picture :)

I heart Bella.

I like the long fringe - it's got style.

Cute poncho with long fringe. Glad to see you tonight, even if briefly ;-) I am sending good vibes to you.

I LOVE LOOOOONG Fringe! Jane

Posted by: jane at January 12, 2005 09:10 PM

This is a funny post, by the way. Yay for my funny twin.

I like the use of the repeating sounds, like sicky sick sick and yarny yarn yarn. I think it's the nerdy English teacher in me coming out. I know I already told you this on the phone, but it's more fun to write it on the internet.

Since I know who the poncho is for, I say leave it long. It will be fun! and frisky! and I think she'll like it!!

That yarn is SOOOO yummy. I actually want to eat it.

Sorry for the long comment, but I don't have my own blog and have the need to put my voice somewhere on the internet this evening.

I think the poncho and fringe looks perfect!

Bella *is* the cutest :)

Eesh, seems like everyone is sick in blogland lately. Hope I can't catch anything over the onternet ;) Feel better soon!!

Posted by: stacey at January 12, 2005 05:09 PM

yucky hope you feel better soon.
if the person is taller than you i say leave it as it doesn't look too long even on you.

Posted by: carolyn at January 12, 2005 02:27 PM

Posted by: thuy at January 12, 2005 01:36 PM

Ok, you are back, geesh I was wondering. The fringe is perfect. The dog is cute and the yarn thing I don't know, leg warmers? socks? No help for ya. Ihave a confession - I EBAY'ed yesterday.....4 yes 4 HUGE lots of needles, holders, knitting loot...............It is CHRISTMAS ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Drink some tea and rest, do not work unless it is knitting or sewing!!

Seems like everyone is saying to keep it long. I agree with them. It is so cute. Your tall recepient will love it. The yarn looks so yummylicious too, can hardly wait to see what you'll create.

Hope you feel better soon!

Aigh...I swear, the cold and flu germies are just on the rampage this year (I think it's the weird-ass weather patterns we've been having everywhere). I'm nearly over mine, so it's your turn :-P *hee hee*

I LOVE the colors of that silk - I'd be interested in who makes that too...awesome color combo...

Posted by: Eklectika at January 12, 2005 01:12 PM

Feel better soon, Carrie!

You are so freaking cute in that poncho. Frankly, I love the fringe as it is. Then again, I prefer longish fringe. Why not leave it as it is and tell the recipient that she can take the scissors to it if she'd like it shorter. But for me, I like!

Posted by: Becky at January 12, 2005 01:05 PM

I like the poncho. You could add some cool beads onto the fringe if it needs a little "something". The knots (to hold the beads in place) would also shorten the fringe a tad. Hope you feel better soon.

Posted by: TAMARA at January 12, 2005 12:52 PM

Aww, I hope you feel better soon! The yarn looks super yummy, and Bella, oh Bella! She is just a lovely little gal. Makes my heart all melty!

Posted by: Giao at January 12, 2005 10:56 AM

Feel better, schmoo. Yes, Bella has the longest schmoolegs I have ever seen. Remember when we thought that she was going to be a bigger dog, and Taylor was all talking about how he likes bigger dogs better...well, I think Bella has grown to be perfect for wading through small ponds and hopping through the grass!

A famous jeweler/artist once told me, "If you are going to wear something, really WEAR it!" No wallflower fringe--if you have fringe, HAVE FRINGE!
I love your dog--she looks like she is on stilts!

Posted by: Janine at January 12, 2005 10:45 AM

Oh no! You're sick too! Feel better soon.

(PS: My schmoos have legs way longer and skinner than your schmoo does. Sorry, but can't mess with a sighthound when it comes to the long and skinny!)

Posted by: cari at January 12, 2005 10:13 AM

I agree with everyone who has said to leave the fringe on the long side since the recipient can always trim it.

I wonder if you have this germ that I have. It's like the bad flu bug that refuses to die. Either way, hope you feel better soon.

Posted by: susan at January 12, 2005 09:22 AM

I would give the recipient the option to trim... but if she's not really tall...on you, that brown fringe falls in a place where brown fringe should not if you know what I mean, dahling.

Iron on transfer paper... must get me some of that. Think of the fun you could have!

Hope you feel better soon.

Posted by: carrie at January 12, 2005 08:11 AM

Leave the fringe if she is taller, fringe doesn't really get in the way and it looks ace! Lovely new yarn, and your dog is utterly adoreable - so sweet!

Posted by: jen at January 12, 2005 03:05 AM

"Trim The Fringe" just sounds soooo DIRTY!

Posted by: Lara at January 12, 2005 12:56 AM

Hrm... I think I vote Trim the Fringe (althought I think I'm the only one ;) ) But tehn again, I'm a conservative fringer!!!!

I hope you feel better soooooon and Bella has the cutest little supermodel legs EVER!

Posted by: Lara at January 12, 2005 12:56 AM

First of all GET BETTER... sorry, didn't mean to shout in your achey ear... Being sick is no fun. Love the poncho and leave the fringe if she is tall, give her the option. Your shmoozer is adorable, such a character with those long legs. (Wish I had that proportion of leg for my short frame..) Get better OK?

Posted by: amy at January 12, 2005 12:28 AM

Poor, poor Carrie! Feel better soon. Tell Bella that she's got legs that any schmoo - human or not - would die for!

Don't cut the poncho fringe short - a tall girl will love the fringe... not that I would know, being as short as I am! lol!

Hi - Is that silk yarn the recycled silk from Mango Moon? It looks like something I was just admiring tonight. A friend made a scarf out of it that was just awesome. She made the fringe first, then cast on 15 stitches to a size 13 needle, and knit til the yarn was gone. Those colors are just fantastic. Good luck with whatever you choose to knit!

Posted by: Tracy at January 11, 2005 09:59 PM

Pretty poncho, pretty yarn!

And the skinny legs makes me think of a Family Feud episode I saw, when the category was "animals with skinny legs." Most people went for the obvious stork, ostrich, etc., but there was one woman who said "dog." I think 5 of 100 people had said dog, too.

Posted by: Sarah at January 11, 2005 09:16 PM

Great poncho! And I digga the fringe. Don't cut it.

Posted by: Amanda at January 11, 2005 09:01 PM

I agree with Jen M's comments about the fringe, being a slightly tall girl myself.

I hope you feel better, sweetie!

Posted by: frecklegirl at January 11, 2005 08:05 PM

I agree - leave the fringe. You look pretty perky for a sick person (and I know all about perky). :-)

Love the long, skinny doggie legs! I have a corgi at home who would be quite envious.

Posted by: dainec at January 11, 2005 06:12 PM

Aw, the Schmoo! But that yarn... slurp...

Hope you feel better, love.

Posted by: Nathania at January 11, 2005 06:12 PM

Hope your feeling better soon. You sure don't look sick though!

I like the fringe the way it is. Especially if she is taller. Either way I like it the way it is.

Question...Do you like using MT?

Posted by: Eilene at January 11, 2005 06:07 PM

Step away from the fringe! Nothing to shorten here! Speaking as a tall person, I can tell you that longer is better when it comes to fringe, because most things are so shrimpy (being sized for smaller people) that you look that much more humongous in comparison. Plus, after you gift it, the recipient can shorten the fringe herself if she chooses, though she cannot lengthen it. And third, I think that longer-than-usual fringe looks cool and fringe-y, while shorter fringe runs the risk of looking like fuzz.

Posted by: Jen M at January 11, 2005 05:57 PM

(drooling over yarn) Okay, sorry, had to pull myself together. I say leave it long. If she wants it shortented she can always cut it but she can't make it grow. That's my two cents, now back to drooling over that beyootiful yarn!

Posted by: sarah b. at January 11, 2005 05:55 PM

You look so great! Especially for someone who feels like poo. I love the poncho, I think I vote to shorten the fringe a little. I don't know the exact ratio of poncho to fringe that's appropriate :) SWEET yarn!
