news.
hi there! it's funny that my last post was about summertime and now it's almost time for school to start... Athens is starting to feel like a college town again. Next week will be crazy with people moving into their dorms and no parking downtown and actual traffic in the mornings. le sigh. I can't complain *too* much since I work at the university..but summer is so peaceful here.
Anyways. I have news! I already spilled it on twitter and Flickr, so sorry if this is repetitious for some of you...

here's our family.

and here's the newest addition in progress.
Yep, I'm pregnant! I'm about 12.5 weeks. I have the beginnings of a belly - it feels huge to me already but I know it's not quite huge. Yet. We are really, really excited and a little bit freaking out and just very happy. I've been pretty nauseous and exhausted over the past few months, and it hasn't quite stopped yet, but I'm hoping my second trimester will bring some relief.
I've got lots of books to read and clothes to make and things NOT TO GOOGLE, and lots of resting to do. I seriously can't believe how tired I've been! Even in St. Croix, where all we did was relax, I was exhausted. But overall, I'm feeling pretty good. I just started prenatal yoga this week and I'm already sleeping better and feeling stronger. It's my first experience with yoga, and although I'm not very bendy right now, I'm learning.
So that's the big thing in my life right now! In knitting news, I finished Ishbel:

Finally done!
and started a top for me - Smock in The Simply Sublime Organic Cotton DK book.

in pretty Debbie Bliss Prima.
I also started another Ishbel - it's a seriously addictive pattern. Quick and easy with such gorgeous results! My plan is to make a bunch of them and then all my Christmas presents will be done. hee. I also have a ton of beautiful fabric for making clothes and I'm hoping to get an energy boost soon so I can make some dresses.
So, I've still been crafting, although it's mostly crafting that I can do from the couch. :) Luckily, knitting is just perfect for that. I'll be posting again soon to tell you about the rug we got - we love it, and Bella REALLY loves it.
Hope everyone is having a fantastic end of their summer!

Congratulations! The first trimester can be tough but the second can be amazing. Enjoy every minute. Don't let all the baby advice books freak you out. Too much information can be a bad thing sometimes.

Funny, I was wondering, the last few times I saw a post from in my bloglines, if you would be making just this announcement.
Enjoy your pregnancy and remember it will never be just the two of you again, so make the most of it.
All the best,
Dawn

Posted by Nell | August 5, 2009 3:49 AM
Woo hoo, baby schmoo! The sicky feelings will get better and then you'll be doing crazy nesting things like ripping up the tile in the bathroom and knocking out walls in addition to crafting (I'm totally guilty - still doing it @ 36 weeks pregnant, driving my husband nuts). ;D And for reals... no Googling.
Posted by Kiri | August 5, 2009 3:03 AM
Another delurker. CONGRATS!
Posted by DCLulu | August 5, 2009 12:37 AM
Hurray~ Congratulations to you both!!
Posted by gaile | August 4, 2009 11:52 PM
How wonderful. The fatigue lasts about 18 years, but it is so worth it. Just Google baby patterns, the wilder the better. For the first two years you can put them in knitted dinosaur suits and bunny things. After that, they have opinions.

Congratulations to your little family. How exciting. I do remember when I had my son how awfully tired I was during the first semester. I think I used to sleep about half the day away on the weekends but it was good for all the growing I did. You will have to start making some cute baby stuff in a few months which will be lots of fun.
Posted by sue | August 4, 2009 6:47 PM
Aah! Congratulations!! I missed this on Flickr, so I'm so glad you posted here. I'm so excited for you!!
Posted by Melissa | August 4, 2009 6:45 PM
Also delurking to say congrats!
This sounds weird but for your last few posts I would come on and wonder if you were going to announce you're pregnant. I guess I just know! I once told one of my teachers she was pregnant. She insisted she wasn't, and when we came back to school in the fall she was ginormous! She said when I told her she had no idea!
Posted by Raychel | August 4, 2009 6:25 PM
p.s. bring that shirt to dragoncon. so i can steal it.
Posted by carolyn | August 4, 2009 6:02 PM

miss you lots and cannot wait to meet the little schmoopants. and if bella wants to come live with me for a while, i would totally move to a new apartment just to accommodate her.

Congratulations, Carrie! You must be so excited. Have you started the baby knitting, yet?
I'm also expecting, although I haven't blogged about it yet. I'm only 8 weeks pregnant -- I'm waiting until about 12 to do the whole blog thing.
It's such an amazing thing, isn't it? I wish you (and the schmoos) a happy and healthy pregnancy. Cheers!

Congratulations, Carrie! Very exciting indeed. You look adorable :-)
I am currently 39 weeks preggo with my first baby - due next week. I was nauseous and tired in the beginning, too, but once I hit about 13-14 weeks, my energy came back. The 2nd trimester really is the best one, so enjoy it. Have fun with all the baby/maternity crafting!
