Just Like I Said I Would

So I said I would show you some pictures of my sewing nook. And so I shall. I didn't say it would be a *good* picture...

Sewing nook.
Yay!

That's the little sewing table I bought, my new pretty sewing machine, and my ironing board (and new Rowenta iron). The little piece of furniture to the right is a vintage sewing/knitting/crafting box that my sister-in-law, Alison, gave me as a wedding present. It's really cool - it's made of wood, and it folds out and has little trays for notions. I should take some good pics of it, actually, and post them.

The nook is in our kitchen - we have a pretty big space for dining/hanging out, and for now, I've taken over this corner for crafting. And it's a good thing, too, because I just started my first quilt and I need room to cut strips! Here I am, cutting strips....

Strips.
One down.

I've done one so far. Gah. It turns out I'm bad at cutting straight. But I'm going to keep trying, even if this first quilt is a bit wonky. I'm okay with that. I learn from my wonkiness.

I'm also still working on the neverending Drops Jacket - the one that I was going to finish as a Christmas present, ha - and I've finally got two beautiful sleeve caps. YAY. Now I have to try and finish the sweater before I run out of yarn. I think I can do it. I need to hurry up and finish it, because I'm starting to have wandering eyes ... the new Interweave preview is up, some Knitty surprises, and pretty pretty knitting in blog and Ravelry land is making me want to drop the Drops and cast on something new. Must. Be. Strong. Yes, I must, because I really want to wear this sweater before it gets warm again here.

(but I really, really, really want to knit a pretty skirt too. Just sayin'.)

I've been so busy lately that crafting of any kind isn't always on my schedule. Apparently, school and work are supposed to come before knitting and sewing. Sigh.

You know what is definitely going to be on the schedule this week? Watching the season premiere of Lost. OH YES. I'll probably get some knitting done then too. Happy, happy times!

Last, but not certainly not least, I wanted to mention: Two sweet bloggers gave me a "Make My Day" award: Sophia and Frida. Thanks, ladies! You made my day by thinking of me. :)

That's all I've got in me tonight! Hopefully next time I post, I'll have a finished sweater and a few more perfectly straight strips to show you. Har.

School and work are Lame-o! Why can't we get paid to knit and sew? ;)
Love the craft nook--and jealous of your Rowenta iron!

I'm going to be the shallow one that comments on your awesome French manicure--nice!

Nothing is as nice as having your own little crafty spot -- yours looks so cosy! Good luck with the quilting . . . is that a blocking board there or a quilting measuring thingie?

I love your little sewing nook.

I nominated you for the Make my day award!

Yay for sewing! I need to get my room set up too. I've been taking a sewing class and sewing on the dining room table. Need to move upstairs so I don't have to take everything down each time, ya know?

I have the same sewing table! I suck at cutting a straight line too.....wouldn't you think it would be easy? But alas, it is not! Good luck with your quilt! Can't wait to see how it comes out!

That is a totally awesome sewing nook! and it looks pretty spacious. Lucky you!!

Love the sewing nook! Is your Rowenta the one with the retractable cord? It looks like it might be. I just put that one on our wedding registry--give a shout if I should rethink that (though it's Rowenta...how can it not be wonderful?!?).

the crafting nook looks like a lovely space to, well, get crafty! :) can't wait to see your quilt!

Like the other commenters, I am jealous of your crafting space! One day, I will have one too...
Good luck cutting straight! I took a quilting class at Purl and the owner, Joelle, taught us that "perfect" is not always interesting. If your lines are not perfectly straight, it gives character to your quilt :) She also gave us another tip: don't always try to cut exactly with the grain. If you're a little bit off, the print on the fabric will have more movement!

I like your sewing table/hutch/cart thing...I have the exact same one. I really like it. Are you using anything in particular to make your quilt (ie books, websites, etc...) I would love to learn how, but I am not sure where to even start....lol. Good luck :)

I love quilting! I just finished my second quilt. My first was VERY wonky but I kind of like it, it gives it character :-)

Good luck with your quilt! I am planning on starting my first quilt this weekend, and am a little worried about my cutting abilities. I was the kid at school who couldn't draw a straight line even with a ruler. Be sure to keep us posted on your progress.

Yay for quilts and sewing nooks!! I'm taking a beginner's quilting class in March, and I can't wait....I'm *awful* at cutting straight, LOL...

Oh wow it must be so wonderful to havd a crafty nook, I can't wait to get my own flat in September instead of crummy student room *dreams of large space and own bathroom*. I hope I have room for a crafty spot though chances are not likely with 2 computers and a piano to fit in as well (sigh). Good luck on your quilt, I hope to start one as well in the summer for new flat.
Love From Adele in the UK!

Oh how I long for a sewing nook of my own. We ended up opting for the smaller place with no extra room when we moved though. (It had a better neighborhood and in the long run that's probably better.) But one day the nook shall be mine!

Nice setup!! It feels good when you have your own space to craft in. Your micro crafty universe!
