Finishing
I'm very, very close to finishing BigHeadSchmoo's very first handknit sweater: Trellis.

Seaming.
Here's me setting in the sleeve, with my trusty Vogue Knitting. I get nervous about seaming sometimes, so I like to keep my Vogue Knitting reference nearby.

And here is a sock monkey wearing an almost finished Trellis.
All I have left to do now is pick up the stitches for the cute seed stitch collar, and put some buttons on it. And take a gazillion pictures of my nephew wearing it. OH BOY! His first birthday party is this weekend... It seems like this was only yesterday.
Time flies.
In other crafty news, I may have been dabbling in some sewing. Er, quilting. Well, I'm not quite to the quilting part yet. I guess I'm piecing. A while ago, my lovely sister Michelle gave me an enormous stack of Amy Butler sampler squares, and I'm using some of them to play. Disclaimer: I don't know much about quilting. For now, I'm just practicing cutting things and sewing in a straight line.

Log cabin. Sort of.

Pieces.
One day, I will actually make a large quantity of squares, sew them together, and make a quilt.
Until then, I will play and cut and sew, and maybe make a pillow. Or a dress for a sock monkey.
It's been very nice lately: work is quiet, it's hot outside, our flowers are blooming, and most major decisions about our wedding are made. That leaves more time for knitting and playing the Wii with Jacob. And watching ridiculous amounts of television. That's what summers are for.
Now, if you're feeling curious, click on the extended entry for 8 random things. I was tagged by Jeanne of Knitty Banter, and I'm feeling sort of random today, so here ya go!
1. When I'm walking with someone else, I prefer to be on the left side. I will almost always move to the left side (unless it's a stranger or a job interview or something).
2. I hate cooking. I also dislike cooking related activities, like grocery shopping. Jacob makes almost all of our meals. Yes, I realize that I am very, very lucky.
3. I challenge anyone to a Dr. Mario competition on the NES. I will beat you. I am GOOD.
4. One time, my twin sister couldn't play at a show with her (now defunct) band, so they taught me all the songs and I filled in for her. No one could really tell the difference.
5. We also switched places on April Fool's Day when we were in high school. Our teachers were fooled, but we had to switch back because I had a paper due and Cathy couldn't find it. Har.
6. I know the first verse of the song "Morning Has Broken" in sign language.
7. I got one B in my freshman year of high school. It was in P.E.
8. I can fall asleep pretty much anywhere: car, plane, couch, sitting up right in a chair, in class, you name it. I'm also a bit of an insomniac.
I won't tag anyone else, but you're welcome to consider yourself tagged if you're reading this.

Great job on the sweater and welcome to the other side of the stitch...quilting. I love it but man it drives me crazy. I thought knitting took a long time! I just finished some log cabins and almost done with the quilt top. Your log cabins look great!

The sweater is beautiful. Cables, and luscious green... What nice colors and patterns for your patchwork squares.
My favorite part of quilting, beyond putting the colors together, is actually hand quilting.

The trellis sweater looks wonderful in that green. I am sure Heather of Pixiestix made one in a green color too not so long ago as well. I cant wait to see your nephew wearing it as I am sure he will look so cute in it.

Sock Monkey is a great model, but I cannot wait for the * real * modeling shots!

The sock monkey looks dashing in Trellis! Amy Butler is the one thing that makes me want to learn to sew properly. Someday...

You have a sock monkey! My husband has one just like it that his mom made him nearly 40 years ago. Lovely cardigan.

Oh NO! Where are that monkey's eyes? He can't see how smashing he looks.
Also, I have moved my domain and thus broken the Purling Puppy webring. (oh the shame) What can I do to fix that?

Heeeey! I've got Trellis in the queue for the Fricklet. Which size did you make, and did you have trouble getting gauge/with yarn amounts? I've seen some grumbling in the bloggyphere about it, and just don't have the time to fumble around much. Be my Yoda!

Love love LOVE the fabric you're quilting. I have a few quilting books and a couple of racks if you are interested in borrowing them. I made a quilt once and just wasn't in love with the process, but I still have all the tools I inherited.

Ok, this may seem crazy, but I've literally been reading your blog for 3 years and I've never commented. Actually, I saw you at MS&W 3 years ago too. You were behind me in line at some booth. I didn't say "hi". I was shy then :P Ok, anyway... I love your Trellis. I actually have all the yarn for the project sitting in my stash, and I have my lovely daughter growing bigger and bigger, and haven't started it. You've inspired me to pick it up soon :) After her baptism gown is done... which may be never since I just casted on the 480 stitches and made a mistake in the first row... /moan

Trellis looks great! And your fabric is way cute. I got into quilting for a while but I suck at sewing. I'm too impatient to get it *just* right.

You totally remembered that story wrong. I had a paper due and YOU couldn't find it. Sniff. And I always have to walk on the right side. Twinsies!
The sweater looks fabulous.

Carrie - Have you ever tried Cooking Mama for the Wii? It is a blast.
And if you don't have it and don't know anyone who does, you can rent it for a few weeks from Blockbuster and try it out.
But I guarantee you will love it.
And your Trellis beuatifu;l. I hope I can do something like that one day.

Trellis looks sooooo good. I cannot believe Big Head Schmoo is already almost a year old.
Quilting/sewing yay! I am making B teach me to sew. He's very patient. I am not. It's not going well. I throw tantrums.

Trellis is looking great - can't wait to see it done. Cool to see you're getting into the sewing - love, love, love the Amy Butler fabric.

Ooh, Dr. Mario. It's been a long time, but I used to dream about those little pills. The quilt pieces are looking great -- very straight and even! And you can't go wrong with Amy Butler mix-n-match. I'm working on my first quilting projects as well, and am a little intimidated by the whole thing...

Well you seem to know how to quilt - it looks good from here!
Big head schmoo's sweater is so cute. It'll be adorable on that curly headed guy.

Well, your quilting/piecing/sewing/whathaveyou is gorgeous! And I love your trellis.
I never get tired of reading about people's idiosyncrasies. Yours are pretty darn tame :)

Ahhh, the Trellis! Love it!
Quilting is something I am going to try. I bought a pattern to make a bag from fat quarters. Gotta sew!

That baby cardie is a treasure! So cute :)
I see you're into all sorts of crafts now! The quilting sample you did looks very nice.

I was actually all set to try quilting.
I devoured Quilting For Dummies and consulted Vicki in Chemistry, but through a series of bad timing (moms old sewing machine doesn't work, Charleston trip last week with simultaneously sick cat last week, and car tags next month) it just isn't going to happen for a while :/

oooh, love the fabric!

I love knitting the neckbands for sweaters and such...
that knitting almost doesn't even feel like knitting, since I'm so very close to the end.
I feel like each stitch makes me closer to finishing, definitely not a feeling I have when working on seperate pieces. :D

I love Amy Butler!! Thanks for the pretty fabric shots, and a great looking Trellis.

That's funny -- I always want to walk on the right. It's kind of a pain because I carry a big messenger bag on my left hip, and it's always thwacking whomever I'm walking with.
Trellis looks aweseome. Every baby should be so lucky to have a talented auntie!
