Denver Rocks.
So I spent last weekend in Denver, CO with Jacob and our favorite teamies Drew and JoAnna. You may remember them from my New Year's trip two years ago or maybe from their fabulous wedding last year. They rock.

TEAMIES!
And also, Denver rocks. We had lots of fun times. We played bocce ball ...

Well, Drew and Jacob did.
We played cornhole. Cornhole is fun, although some people (me) may make weird faces when they throw the beanbag. Some other people (JoAnna) may beat the pants off every person there, including all the boys who secretly thought they were the best at cornhole. Go, JoAnna!

This is not good cornhole form.
We also played shuffleboard (the bar version, which is played on a table instead of the ground.) Shuffleboard is fun because even people with no athletic ability can be good at it. Me likey that kind of game.

JoAnna also kicked major ass at shuffleboard.
We also went to the Denver Zoo, which was quite lovely and seemed more open than Zoo Atlanta. (It has been a LONG time since I visited Zoo Atlanta.) One of my favorite animals with this ferocious looking bear who was munching on a rawhide.

Schmoo got a treat.
Somehow, he's not scary anymore with the rawhide.

This guy kept staring at me.
It was an excellent trip. It was supposed to snow a foot on Friday, but instead we had 60-70 degree weather all weekend. For once, Black Cloud did not bring crappy weather with her. Hooray! I miss my teamies though. TEAMIES MOVE HOME. Ahem.
I knitted my little hands off during our trip. I finished TWO projects - first, a Morehouse Merino triangle shawl that I've had in my knitting bag since my New York trip. I finished it up while in Denver and wore it quite a bit as a scarf with it got chillier at night. It hasn't been blocked yet, so
I have no picture, but you can imagine : triangle shawl in blue-gree Morehouse colorway.
Second finished project? A super quick Calorimetry. Dude, that pattern kicks ass. I followed Mrs. Frick's example and used some delicious sock yarn (my Koigu from Purl) . I doubled it, and cast on 84 sts instead of the required number. Perfect! I started this the night before we left for Denver, and I had it finished by the time we boarded our plane. (We *did* miss our originally booked 6:20am flight and had to catch the 9:30 plane, but still. Pretty quick knit.) I see more of these in my future...

Picture taken today at the Botanical Gardens.
Jacob had to test some lenses.
I may have also spotted two HEJs and an HEB while we were at the Botanical Gardens...

SCHMOOS.

Just a quick note to say thanks for letting me into the Chapel for the English department graduation! And apologies for the shameless sycophancy! I thought the whole ceremony was lovely and it was easier to spot Jess than on Saturday morning with the other 3,500 graduating students! I will keep reading the blog ... especially now that I have shaken hands with the famous author!

Carrie: Why don't you guys come to Oregon? I guarantee you'll see things you've never seen before. Boyce

Love the calamitory headband. Nice color too, and HEJ's baby is just so adorable and growing so quickly.

Wow Girl! You certainly do a lot of traveling. Just about every time I check your blog you are either planning a trip or just got back. I pretty much a home body, but hope to get to the Caribbean later this year.

So crazy that you were in my neck of the woods and we happened to be in the exact same places at most likely the exact same time! We might have even seen each other and not even noticed. But really, why would we, it's not like we know each other...right?
I totally LOVE the zoo. We have annual passes there because my kids love it so much. Really glad you got to check it out. However, you should have checked out some of our LYS! We have the largest on in America...www.showersofflowers.com
Oh well, maybe next time!

You just inspired me to get the Somewhat Cowl pattern from Knit & Tonic - loved the pics of your blueish color one!
Also, do you have the code for the Purling Pubbies webring with the "random" part in it too (not just previous and last)? I saw that on some blogs & would like to update mine to include the random.
Thanks!

I gotta make a Calorimetry now too. My dear friend Sarah made one a while back but there were a LOT of mods and I didn't have the energy for that. I may try the method you used...

Carrie! I can't wait to cast on some stash Koigu for the Calorimetry! What size needle did you use when you doubled the yarn? I hate knitting and reknitting and taking out and starting over.... so instead of wasting any more time, could you tell me what size needle? THANKSTHANKSTHANKS! Debbie

teamies move to denver!
we miss you!

Truly - what a FUN trip!!! I'm all into cornhole - I don't play horseshoes BECAUSE the way I throw 'em it would be way too dangerous!!
Cute knits, cute baby - I went to the Memphis zoo last week and it's much nicer than it had been so maybe the Atlanta zoo is gonna' upgrade their exhibits too - they're all more into saving species now than just for "lookin".
Love the calorimetry - I' been lookin' at it and now that I've grown the bangs out it would pro'ly be a good idea.
I know your a busy girl - love the blog!!

Your Cal is uber-cute! And it's some sort of twin of mine in color as well! Yellowheads unite! You guys play some far-out games. What, no lawn darts? Oh, yeah. Those are illegal now.

That is one durn cute baby. Looks like the whole trip was fun, too. My brother needs to move back to CO so I have a reason to go visit there.

We never got to go to the Denver zoo while we lived out there.. but I just took my son to Zoo Atlanta and was horribly disappointed. Figured I'd comment and save you the $18.00 per person admission to Zoo Pathetic. I mean.. Atlanta.

In spite of living in the birthplace of Cornhole - I still suck at it. Cool Calorimetry and looking forward to seeing the shawl!

Adorable Calorimetry, fun times with friends--but really, the thing that I'm most focused on here is the bear! With the rawhid! Who knew that a bear would want to gnaw on a rawhide? I think I'll throw some in my backpack next time I go hiking in case I need to distract a bear!

Looks like a fun time was had by all! I've never been to CO, but I hear it's beautiful :) Your calorimetry is tempting me... and I do have all that leftover sock yarn staring at me....

Looks like fun times with so many friends. I too saw JulieFrick's calorimetry and wanted to make one immediately. I haven't cast on yet, but it's in my "to do" list.

Awwww! That pic of HEB totally wiped away all memory of comments I was going to make about you. Imagine something witty here.
I'm glad they're doing ok. Sigh...cute babies....tralala... And, uh, you too! I'm glad you're doing well, too!
Keep up the great posting...
