Goal, Interrupted.
So, Forecast? Not gonna happen by Wednesday.
Here's why:

Swollen.
The short version is that our dogs accidentally met each other in the backyard, started fighting, and when I jumped in to help Jacob pull them apart, I got bit [edited to add: Bella bit me, not Chili. Neither of our dogs are usually people aggressive, but Chili's never bit a human before. ] Really, really hard. I'm okay. We ran to the ER, got fixed up. The dogs are fine - neither of them had a dang scratch. Note to self: don't put your hand in a dog's mouth as a method of stopping a dog fight.
Ahem.
Anyways, my arm is really swollen and sore. I've spent all day resting, trying not to type and I actually didn't knit a stitch. I just relaxed. So, I guess no Forecast in NY. Maybe I'll finish it there, but I probably won't get to wear it. Very soon, though.
Now, here's a rare picture of my nephew looking serious:

He's v. serious about being happy all the time.
Babies make everything better sometimes, don't they? It's been a very emotional and stressful week so far. I'm about ready for a trip.

Crap! I hope you're feeling better by now.
Love the picture of your nephew. What a doll.

So sorry about your doggy bite, I hope it heals up soon so you can get back to knitting! And I know you have Anne-Marie's phone number so will you call her and tell her that her blog is broken and we can't read it? I love reading her cuz she makes me laugh so dang hard.

Your poor baby! If anything can cure what ails you, though, it's a vacation to NY. Here's hoping you're better soon . . .

Oh, poor thing! I would've done the same thing if the furry children got into a fight like that. Hope you'll get back to knitting soon.

Ahhh! No good! I'm glad you are ok and thanks for reminding me why I shouldn't jump into the middle of a dog fight (seriously I need that reminder as I just jump in way too fast most of the time).
Heal up fast! Have a great trip! Take care of that arm!

Aw nuts, man! Hope you recover quickly. Have fun in NYC!

Aw, but what a great sad schmoo face you make.
That's a great link from Krista.

I once had a neighbor's rottweiler come into my yard and start a fight with my mini dachshund. All I had was a book, so I threw it a them. Hit the big dog, and he ran back home. I got lucky that it worked.
Here's a site with a great explanation for how to break up a dog fight effectively and safely (either alone or with another person). You may want to read this should it ever happen again...

Hope it heals soon.

Aw, I hope you feel better, and that the Schmoos get along next time!

Black cloud again, huh? Hope it has finished clouding your life, that you heal quickly, that you have a fantabulous time in New York!

Oh man, that's brutal. I'm glad to hear your arm is going to be all right, but what a bummer....
I hope you will have a great trip.

Sorry to hear about the bite - hope you feel better soon!
Posted by Kate | March 14, 2007 4:18 PM
If the ER didn't give you antibiotics, or even if they did and the swelling gets worse or doesn't go away pretty quickly get yourself back to medical attention. My DH got bitten by our sweetie when she objected to her bath. It got infected and he ended up on intravenous antibiotics. The ER doc said he could have lost his hand if he'd waited too long. NOT GOOD.
Hope this is an unnecessary warning and you are doing fine.

Sorry to hear of your mishap. Sending you "healing" thoughts and good travel vibes.

I heart your picovoli.
¡Sana, sana, culito de rana!

i "automatically" jump into the middle of my dog fights too (they rarely happen - but they do happen) - they are little puggers but can still tear the skin....and have also had to stop knitting for a few days b/c of it! crazy dogs...but i love them so! have fun on your trip!

Oh that sucks! Although, if this were me, I think I would be secretly relieved that soemthing else was to blame for not meeting a self imposed deadline. I always set unrealistic goals for my knitting and always fall short. (Not that yours was unrealistic, I have all sorts of faith in you and your knitting abilities.)
Hope your hand feels better. And you feel better after your little vacation.

Oh my god that sucks. Hope your arm heals up fast! At least you have a NY trip coming up. You should check out Seaport Yarn, 35 Willism Str 5th floor. there is nothing else like it.

Aw man, that sucks hard! I'm sorry. Get well soon and give up your second career as a dog treat.
Posted by Sil | March 14, 2007 1:27 PM
Ouch! Bad dogs! Glad you came out...only slightly scratched.
I did that with my cat once...scared me half the death, because I didn't know what she was going to do when I grabbed her.

Poor Carrie Schmoo!!! Hope it heals up quick and doesn't keep you from enjoying NY, you need the break girl!

Your nephew's a doll - so seriously cute! And you've got the sweetest sad face. I'm sure you'll heal quickly BUT don't hesitate to take DRUGS to assist in controlling the swelling, pain, aching etc. cause you don't want it to interfere with enjoyment on the trip. Hopefully the other will resolve itself.

The big lip out makes you look sooooo sad!
Best wishes healing

oooh nooo!!! KNITTER DOWN! what a drag! doggies can be so territorial :( it's a shame that your arm got in the way. rest up and save that forecast for your trip. i'm sure it'll get some knitting time on the plane :)
Posted by gleek | March 14, 2007 10:29 AM
Oooh, Carrie, I'm so sorry. That looks OWWWIE! I don't have any good advice to give that hasn't already been given, and I hope you are able to find a little peace amongst your schmoos soon.
Rest up and take care of yourself, we'll wait for you.

You really need a vacation! And you're in luck: it's going to be in the 60s in NYC (today it's going to be almost 70!), so you won't need forecast. I hope that cheers you up...
Hope your arm heels fast.
Posted by Veronique | March 14, 2007 10:01 AM
PS - I can't tell you how it entertains me to have to type "schmoo" at the end of my comment. It always cracks me up.
Posted by Carrie | March 14, 2007 10:00 AM
Man, so sorry. (Can you build a little enclosure in your backyard - of your cute house! - to keep them separate? That was what we had to do.)
Once in the middle of a dog fight, my dogs managed to tear the skin off my knee without tearing the pants I was wearing. I still can't figure out how they did that.
Anyway, I hope the vacation is restful and you feel recharged and peaceful. XOXO
Posted by Carrie | March 14, 2007 10:00 AM
Oh man, that suuuuuuucks! I hope the dogs are OK too. Nephew sure is a doll!!
Posted by Elinor | March 14, 2007 9:50 AM
You have the cutest sad face!!!! AWWWWW
Hope your hand is better. We will miss you this weekend! Have fun in the NYC!

For (hopefully unneeded) future reference: if you're in a yard with a hose, a good spray of water will break up most dog fights. Shocks them enough to hear the human yelling. A bucket of water also works wonders.
But above all, no sticking your hand in!
Posted by Flan | March 14, 2007 9:46 AM
Ouch, ouch, ouch...
I've helped break up a number of dog fights in my day. They're scary, and it's even worse when you get hurt! Take care of yourself.
Posted by Janice in GA | March 14, 2007 9:40 AM
Ow! That's gotta hurt! Hope you're back in knitting shape soon. Have fun in NYC!
Posted by Cara | March 14, 2007 9:29 AM
Greetings from a blog lurker! Ouch! I hope you get better (and back to knitting) soon!
Posted by Jamie | March 14, 2007 9:15 AM
Oh, poor schmoo. :(
Hope you heal up quickly.
Your nephew is ADORABLE.
Posted by Sarah | March 14, 2007 9:05 AM
Oh my word, that must have been awful! I'm glad you're ok though - still, ouch! I hope it's all healed soon.
Posted by jen | March 14, 2007 8:57 AM
Oh Carrie! That is so sad and awful, and especially because it was one of your own dogs. I was hoping they were doing better together since we hadn't heard anything more about a new home for Chili (of course, maybe you just stopped writing about it because people are judgy and mean). I know what that awful adrenaline of trying to separate fighting dogs is like, and I've stuck my hand in there too, because NO ONE is going to hurt my little schmoo (who is totally a lover not a fighter but who somehow always draws a crowd of dogs who want to pick on her). But I will remember this next time and be more careful. Sigh. Sad.

ouch! ouch! ouch! :(
great sad faces on both of yous [sic! ha ha!] tho. :)

Posted by kim | March 14, 2007 8:12 AM
What an unhappy mishap, glad you weren't injured more seriously.Enjoy your vacation, knitting will be there when you recover!;)
Posted by Heather | March 14, 2007 8:10 AM
Ooh, I hope you heal fast! Sorry you've been so stressed lately. You definately deserve a vacation!
Posted by Michelle | March 14, 2007 7:28 AM
So Sorry!!! I hope when you wake up today, the swelling has gone down dramatically and no more ouchy. Forecast will be around for a long time, don't worry. And it's probably too warm to wear it here right now (that was a blatant effort to make you feel better!)
Posted by chris | March 14, 2007 6:35 AM
that is soooo incredibly sad:(
swollen dog bite are sad...but not being able to knit because of it is a gosh darn tragedy!
Posted by Cristina | March 14, 2007 3:04 AM
Oh baby nephew! So cute.
That pic is priceless- you poor buddy. :(
Posted by frecklegirl jess | March 14, 2007 1:54 AM
Take care of the bite! I got bit by a dog last fall while riding my bike in an off-leash park, and I was really surprised by how much it hurt and how swollen it got.
