Housekeeping.
I'm trying out a new look for the blog -- let me know what you think. Unless you hate it, and then you don't have to tell me. :) Also let me know if you see any pages that aren't working -- I'm trying to change everything over, but I'm sure I'll miss something. I just decided wanted a new color to look at, and I also wanted to play with these Photoshop brushes (link via Dooce). Yay for nerding out with the blog.
This weekend, I went to Atlanta with my friend Cheryl to see Cathy and Wes and go salsa dancing. (The Pants stayed home to nurse a stomach virus and watch horror movies.) Loca Luna was so crowded that we didn't really get to dance much, but we did eat good food and drink yummy drinks, including some tequila shots. Hee. Guess what happened while we were at the bar? A blog reader said hi! I've never had that happen in Atlanta before -- So. Exciting. This is me and Raquel (hi Raquel! I hope that's how you spell it):

Sorry for the blurry camera phone pic.
Raquel was wearing a beautiful Hourglass sweater out of Cotton Fleece that she knit herself, (um, what a good yarn for the Hourglass! why didn't I think of that?) and she was so. nice. How fun is that? Yay for the knitblog world -- even in the most crowded bars, we knitters can spot each other.
Cathy and Wes were nice to enough to get up on Sunday morning and get some coffee:

That's Whitney behind them.
Aren't they just like a Christmas card? Good times were had by all, although we missed Jacob.
I knit on my new favorite project...Anemoi Mittens! I knit all the way past the thumb on my first mitten, and it looked so pretty, and I was happy, but they looked...big. Then, I checked my gauge and my needles. I thought I was knitting with 2s, and I was knitting with 3s. D'oh. Yes, I know I should've checked my gauge WAY before the thumb and checked my needle size BEFORE I started the mitten. Lesson learned.
Here's the first mitten, second try:

Here's the back.

Here's the palm.
Y'all. I'm loving the colorwork. I didn't even mind ripping, because I got to knit it AGAIN. Yay.
So it was a good weekend. I've been running FAIRLY regularly - I did a six miler a week ago - and I think I'm going to be ready for my half marathon in March. I hopehopehope.

Hi, Carrie! Yep, you did spell my name right. :-) It was so nice meeting you, your sister, and your friends at Loca Luna. My friends got a kick out of me meeting a knitting celeb! Hee hee. Just in case I forgot to tell you at Loca Luna - I love your blog.

Hi Carrie, I just wanted to let you know that your blog is so entertaining. I have been very bored at work lately and have been reading the back issues of your blog. Like another reader mentioned I feel as if I know you. Your life seems way more exciting then mine so I have been living vicariously through you. You are so inspiring. I have read so many issues of your blog and seen so many of the great projects that you have completed that I just want to make all of them. However, I am not as speedy of a knitter as you and it would take me a lifetime to complete all the wonderful projects you have completed. Anyway, I am anxiously awaiting your next entry, and in the mean time I am reading the back issues. I have even thought of creating my own blog site. One day maybe!

I love the new look of the site! You're in my weekly blog read-and you're alway first. It's funny that you mentioned seeing a blog reader, because I was just telling one of my friends here in Fairbanks Alaska, that you're my favorite blog to read, and that if I ever met you in "real life" I'd feel like I've known you for years and just come up to you like "Hey Girl!!!"... but you'd have no idea who I am and rightfully so, be completely creeped out.... funny how that works. ;-) Anyway, thanks for giving me a great weekly read!!!

Gorgeous site! And the mittens are super cute too.

I love this site! I knitted the sweater from Interweave...the Central Park, my first sweater EVER...the shoulders and armholes are kinda weird. it definately doesnt look like yours, but I still love it. Yours looks great. That purple sweater below it is pretty too...

I continue to be amazed by your html-ing. Love the new look!! And, beautiful mittens, someday I will get brave enough to do some color work.
Posted by Kristen | January 24, 2007 5:55 PM
I enjoy getting ideas for other people's fair isle. (Even though I haven't knit any myself yet.) The colors are great!

I {{heart}} your new Photoshop brushes AND your new mittens-in-progress. I'm still too much of a chickenshit for colorwork though.
miss you!!

You are *such* a rockstar. :)
I just bought the yarn for the endpaper mitts- gotta start that colorwork stuff one of these days!
Hope Jacob is feeling better!

Oh, Loca Luna! I am consumed with homesickness now! What fun--and you got recognized, like a celebrity or somethin'. Very cool.
And I lurve your mittens! Isn't it just the prettiest pattern? You chose such gorgeous colors.

so surprised by the new look, but its very nice! id put my vote in for a different font, but it is YOUR blog and you have to be happy with it. will you be updating links to blogs that you read? ive noticed some are defunct and would like to see those updated (of course, it all at YOUR discretion, ill read you anyway!)

How funny, you're famous! Beautiful mittens!

I'm looking for some help please. I started a sweater that had raglan sleeves which I thought I'd like but I had to adjust my needles to a 13 to get the scale with the yarn I have to use. I could not find any double pointed size 13's so I knitted the sleeves open and planned to sew up the seams and then attach to sweater. I just don't know how to finish off the sleeves I have on a circular needle (I knitted both at the same time) I have the body of the sweater up to the point to pick up the stitches from the sleeves and back and front to continue knitting in the round but I don't know how to get the sleeves so I can work them in. Can you help me please. I would so love to get it done for one of my soldiers I support for Valentine Day. Thanks

Ooh! It's purple and bubbly! Love it. And the mittens too.
Posted by Veronique | January 23, 2007 7:42 PM
Loving the new purple color for your blog. I think it suits you, lots of color. I like the mittens too, just beautiful, and your sister's hat looks nice, did you make it or is it a store bought one. I hope Jacob is feeling better too.
Posted by Sue | January 23, 2007 7:41 PM
Way to go on those mitts! Isn't colorwork the best? I love watching the pattern come out. I just finished some really fun color stranded hats. I might just make some mitts to go along with them!!
Good luck on the running front! It sounds like you're on track for that 1/2 marathon!!!
Posted by Elinor | January 23, 2007 5:58 PM
Oooh your mittens look really nice and complicated. They make you look like super fancy knitter!
Posted by biglug | January 23, 2007 4:17 PM
Love the redesign and the mittens are killer. I'm almost done with my Endpaper mitts and am loving Eunny's detailed color work projects. If you're really into the whole knitting with a chart thing, I really recommend getting the Knitpicks magnetic chart holder--I've been enlarging charts and using the holder and I can go so much faster...

I like the purple. It's definitely a look. :)
The font could be crisper, the previous one showed off your excellent grammar better, if that makes sense...
Looks like super fun times at the salsa bar! What are you wearing your [less recent] mitts with?
Is our favorite Carrieoke turning into a knit-something-to-knit-it knitter?
Thinkthinkthink...
Good luck on the marathon!

Digging the new blog colors. It's fun to change things around. Nice mittens too.

You know you can never go wrong with PURPLE!!! And I love your mittens. I just finished that pattern not long ago and I had to go up to a 3 so my fat hand would fit. ;)
Posted by Beth | January 23, 2007 11:45 AM
Love the new banner! And I really love that mitten pattern. You chose great colors!

the blog looks great! i love the new wider format. the only thing that i want to point out is that this comment box that i am typing in RIGHT NOW is way off to the right in firefox. perhaps if you put a BR tag under the "Comments: (you may use HTML tags for style)" label, it'll pop back over to the left.
i looked at that picture of your sister and got all confused thinking it was you! for some reason, she looks even MORE like you in that picture than others i have seen!
Posted by gleek | January 23, 2007 10:22 AM
your mittens are looking great...
and I like the purple...it's gettin me in the mood for spring...

The Anemoi mitt looks great! I'm on #2 of my pair and I love this pattern. I may use the blank chart she gives to make my own design! Hope The Pants is feeling better!

love the new look (though the apostrophe in "i'm a crafty schmoo" looks backwards.) your mittens are darling -- i love colorwork, but i makes me nauseated.
Posted by carrie m | January 23, 2007 9:15 AM
You are truly livin' la vida loca, darling! Tequlia, six-milers, and diggin' the strands so much that you'll start all over again? Ah, those were the days. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through it all!
Posted by JulieFrick | January 23, 2007 8:50 AM
Love the re-design. Your mittens are so purdy, I'm drooling a little bit looking at them. Hope The Pants is feeling better.

Great start to the mittens - and I love the new look of the blog (but I'm a sucker for purple)
Posted by AmyP | January 23, 2007 8:11 AM
The site looks great! It is very similar to the colours that I just redesigned my site in, so I might be biased. :)
Your mittens look lovely too, great choice of colours.
