oops.
So, I brought my lunch to work today, and I just ate it, and I just settled at my desk for a lovely 45 minutes of knitting - which would TOTALLY allow me to finish my Anemoi mitten. So I get my chart set up (using my new Knitpicks chart keeper! woo-hoo)
And I got out my little notions bag, and I'm all ready to finish my mitten, except that I LEFT THE KNITTING AT HOME. I brought EVERYTHING but the knitting. Lame.
Sad schmoo.
Oh well. It was meant to be finished tonight during my online class, clearly.
I finished knitting the body of my Forecast, and it's another sad story : I don't have enough yarn. I think I secretly knew it, but I almost ALWAYS use less yarn than a pattern calls for, so I thought just maybe...nope. Not happening. Yardage is yardage is yardage, people. The knitting gods can't magically produce enough yarn to finish up the body, knit two sleeves and do a buttonband (although *sometimes* they might produce enough to finish a sock.) Here's a shot just before I realized it would be a no-go:

So Cute. And So Not Happening With This Yarn.
The only thing to do is unravel it, because it's beautiful cashmere yarn and I'll never get a whole Forecast out of it. Sigh. So, now I must find yarn for Forecast, because after being so close to finishing, I KNOW I want this sweater. I'm thinking about taking a little trip to knitpicks this afternoon...
I've recently been thinking about taking stock of my projects: the unfinished, the to-be-started, and the patterns-I-want-to-do-but-have-no-yarn-for. And then also the yarn stash -- maybe I should match some of that yarn with the projects I want to do? Scary. I don't know if I want to get into that kind of organization mode with my yarn ... but the yarnplosion at my house needs some attention.
OR, I could just do what Bella does with her toys:

Surround myself with all my yarn.

Hahahahaha Bella Schmoo! Sadie loves to have all her toys too. Sometimes she plays with one, then the other, then tries to put them all in her mouth. Sad about Forecast. ;-(
Idol last night was HILARIOUS!

What in the world is sticking out of poor piglets "area"??????
I too need yarn managment/pattern managment and a good dose of write down what I want to make and keep track rather then forgetting it all

My dogs do the same thing! :) Silly animals. (and they're toys end up looking as beat up, too.)

I kinda like it the way it is now. Perhaps you have enough for 3 quarters sleeves?
Or you can pull a Righetti and do cuffs and button bands in another color?
Or maybe that's just a bad idea.
Mull over the 3/4 sleeves, though!

Hi,
This is such a cute blog! Love the purple theme, anyway we loved the knitting so much we made a link to your blog at ours at gosmelltheflowers.com. Hope you don't mind?

What a shame about Forecast!
And how does it never work out that you end up coming up with fabulous projects for yarn you already have?! Crazy.

I got a Wii over the weekend. And I'm trying hard to remember everybody else that's gotten one. I think you do?
Your dog is so cute. Mine piles her toys up too, but in the middle of the living room floor.

Aw, Bella!
I tried organizing. Sigh. It didn't really help, except that now my yarn is stacked neatly in clear plastic shoeboxes. I still have WAY too much of it. :)

i tried organizing my knitting books (a far smaller task than organizing the stash) and couldn't even finish that! i think bella's plan is ideal. surround self with yummy yarn!!

oh no :( sorry to hear that you're out of yarn for forecast. it's such a cute sweater. you should definitely try again!
oh, and your "yardage is yardage" line reminded me of "muppets take manhattan" :) "peoples is peoples..."

I have the opposite problem. I have taken my knitting to work with me every day so far this week and I haven't had a chance to tackle it yet! And I only need to do little lacework cuffs for some armwarmers.
I can't wait to see the finished sweater!

Sorry about Forecast! But you seem to be taking it a helluva lot better than I would. I. hate. ripping.
Bella is sooooo cute! She kinda reminds me of an Ewok.

Aw, Bella's cute but clearly harboring some resentment toward the Winnie the Pooh characters. Eyeore is looking a mite abused.
Matching stash yarn to future projects - crazy talk woman!

Organization is a good thing. I know I should probably do that, only I don't want to face the reality that I have enough fiber for a lifetime. I keep finding new things to knit and I want to run out and purchase the yarn for the project. The only problem is I already have yarn for at least a dozen sweaters, not all for me but still. So no more shopping for me, at least for a few months.
I forgot to mention in my last post how cute your Bella is. I love dogs, but my busy life just doesn't have time to care for a doggie right now. I keep trying to talk my beau into it, but he just won't have it. We already have 5 cats and he says that is enough.
Hope you have time for lots of knitting tonight. I know I will. I cast on my first sock yesterday. The yarn is so thin and I am using 0s. Yikes. It is going to take me forever.

I think Bella has it right ;)
Sorry about the yarn shortage. Cashmere, mmmmmm. It'll have to be something else special.

I did the same thing with my knitting I was planning on taking to my sisters house the other day. Packed up all the notions, the pattern, etc. but left the knitting at home. It sucked.
BELLA SCHMOO!!!! So stinkin' cute.
Good luck finding yummy Forecast yarn! Can't wait to see what you choose.

Did you say CASHMERE? *drool* Forecast is such a cute sweater, I hope you find yarn for a new version of it!

Ohh man that picture of your dog just makes me laugh. That's great.
Posted by Kri | January 31, 2007 1:47 PM
Oh, Bella SCHMOO! That level of cuteness almost makes up for the Forecast tragedy, doesn't it? I love that she has a Piglet.

i definitely vote for the surround system!!!! :) or i could send you my stash spreadsheet i haven't updated in a year.... :) maybe i'll inventory this weekend while amy is here.

Darn! Running out of yarn is for the birds.
I might have just ordered yarn from knitpicks. um maybe.
Bob does the same thing- moves all of them into piles. Doggies are silly.
Have you seen this?

The organization is not so bad, it's scary at first, but once you're done and you have things matched up and you have a plan, you're in a happy place. At least I am. At least I know I won't find myself wandering around a yarn shop, mumbling about patterns and yardage anymore.
V. sorry about Forecast, that really sucks! But Bella is a total schmoo. Our dog will wait until I pick up all his toys and sweep, and then he will very carefully get them all out again.
Ooh, I just remembered I wanted to download those photoshop brushes...must do that now.
Posted by Jenn | January 31, 2007 1:36 PM
That is too bad about the Forecast. The yarn looks so soft and squishy in the picture! I guess it can be used for something else though.
I need to take some serious inventory myself. Lots of unfinished projects going on over here...

Aw, such a cute puppy face! When my cat plays with her (toy) mice she sometimes jumps on them and/or lays down on top of them. It is so cute.
Good luck with the organizing. And the ripping. :(
