Long Holiday Weekend = Long Post.

Yay for looooong holiday weekends. It's beginning to look a lot like that time of year where classes wind down, the students go home, campus gets deserted, and I get to relax a little. I'm not quite there yet .... but it's close. So. close.

Thanksgiving was so nice. Lots of family time, although my nephew BradyPants was whisked away to my brother-in-law's family for the weekend - (I call dibs for Christmas, people). We had a lovely Thanksgiving brunch with my mom, my stepdad Mike, Cathy, her husband Wes, me, Jacob and Anne Marie (who totally ran a half marathon on Thanksgiving and then came and hung out because she is a ROCK STAR). I ate an enormous amount of food, and then I worked on this all day:

I was trying for the J.Crew catalog blurry shot.

I know you're probably damn sick of pictures of this sweater, but I love it so much! It still needs to be blocked, and in these pictures, some ends were still hanging out, but it's pretty much there. It's not 100% perfect (the hood is a little wonky at the top), but it's the closest I've ever been. Happyhappyhappy. The sister will probably get it before Christmas - it might be the first time I've ever finished a knit in time for the gift giving. The yarn, for those who asked, is Cascade Sierra, and I lovelovelove it. I will definitely use it again - it's a wool-cotton blend, great to work with. This is an easy, quick knit, and my sister totally begged for it because she saw it here first. That Rachael inspires the knitting.

On Friday, we headed to Missisippi for a visit with Jacob's grandparents. And I got out an old project that's been sitting in my knitting basket...

The Must-Have Cardigan.
One trip to Mississippi = two fronts complete.

Just two sleeves and some finishing and this baby is DONE. It's looking a little short right now, but methinks a good blocking will make her fit nicely.

A trip to Mississippi with Jacob's family almost ALWAYS means one thing: a casino trip. And so we went. Here's what went down:

Jacob hit it big on the slots.

Seriously. He did. That boy is lucky. And, by extension, I am lucky too. I think we're gonna get a new mattress....

Yay fun weekend. I'm so thankful for all the wonderful people in my life.
And also for yarn.

That is one hot hoodie!

That sweater is fantastic. Grats on your winnings! My DH is always the big winner. I throw my money away on the slots and then give the rest to him so he can win it big at black jack :P

So you know, I had to order this issue of KnitScene (and, yeah, the spring issue too) just because of your blog! As soon as I get through my Christmas knitting list - the Central Park is my next big selfish project.

My god. That Central Park is gorgeous. I can't believe you made that!

Woot! Grats on the monies. And the hoodie looks better than the one in the magazine. Very nice!

Totally love the Hoodie! Where did you get the pattern. I might be in another post but I haven't gotten past this on yet so please forgive me if it is.

Marly

I absolutely love the job you did on the Central Park Hoodie!
It is absolutely gorgeous!
I ordered up the magazine in hopes that I will have some time to try and knit one up as well. I am new to knitting sweaters, but seeing yours has insprired me to give it a try. Now to choose a color....

OH MY GOSH that hoodie is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! Looks great on you too!

Dude. Just when I'm about to finish one sweater and I can't wait to start Butterfly because I've been waitingwaitingwaiting to knit Butterfly, you have to post a picture of something that will now totally destroy my Butterfly enthusiasm and monopolize all of my knitting day dreams. Thanks. ;)

It looks FANFREAKINTASTIC.

loves it! (and seeing yours is the perfect motivation to seam mine this weekend... yay!)

Central Park is fabulous! Nice job. Must Have looks like it's coming along, too. ; )

Central Park is gorgeous and so is Cathy in it! Congratulations on y'all's big winnings! Glad the black cloud has passed.

oooooooooooooooooo. Ok, so i'm kind of having a spell where i'm so bored of knitting the stockinette part of my sweater (no awesome cables like yours), and when that happens, i start randomly browsing the internet for inspiration. Which is where I found your blog. Now I kind of want to call in sick so I can lay on the couch all day and knit. Your sweater is AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!

the sweater is a masterpiece! it looks beyond professional, straight out of a magazine. you should be so proud.
i also love the cascade sierra -- now i need to make something else out of it.

Yummy red Central Park! Nice job chica.

Great. Now I want Central Park in that color. I wear that sweater ALL the time. You need one, too, for yourself. Funny, I'm making another Must-Have, too. Great minds.
xo

Central park looks DEEE-licious!
Go Jacob!! Have you stopped calling him 'the pants' on purpose?

ponderponderponder

wow! go jacob!! central park hoodie looks awesome. you did a knock down bang-up job on it!

and look at all that cabling goodness on the must-have cardigan. i can barely do 2x2 rib nowadays. no brain power left :)

you coulda' put up another 10 or so pics of that hoodie - you did such a great job on it - your sis is really lovin' it. Great winnings for Jacob and I can think of a NUMBER of reasons that would make a new mattress mighty sexy!! The must have is looking pretty good too - you do inspire me - just not enough to start a sweater requiring skeins and skeins of yarn - I'm still working on the same socks-on-2-circs AND just starting the meatball hat!! Sounds like y'all had a really nice southern Thanksgiving! Oh, and yeah you gotta' demand extra time with the nephew Christmas - he needs balanced exposure to both sides of the fam'bly!

i could do with even more photos - that sweater looks great on its own and especially nice on cathy.

yay for jacob and his impressive-looking winnings!

OK, so Jacob won $$$ at the casino at you're going to buy a mattress??? There's something wrong with that. I hope you can sneak in a nice dinner (or maybe some yarn...) Mattress = not too sexy, Carrie! OK, not like yarn is any better...

CP Hoodie and MH Cardi look great!!!

Central park is SO beautiful!!!
I can't believe that Jacob won all of that money...and didn't lose it back to the casino, congrats!

PS Your mom makes the best Sweet Potato Souflle ever.
PSS And Jacob is the king of Creme Brulee
PSSS and Cathy is the queen of fried green tomatoes

Ooooooh, Central Park. I'll be all over that pattern just as soon as I get this *&^! seamless hybrid done. Now...where's your Forecast?

Central park looks great. Reminds me of a cardigan I have from ann taylor loft, but yours is WAY nicer. congrats on finishing!

Central Park looks great! Well Done!

Central Park looks fab - the yarn was a great match for it. And now back to the Must-Have? It's all cables all the time around here.
