Long Holiday Weekend = Long Post.
Yay for looooong holiday weekends. It's beginning to look a lot like that time of year where classes wind down, the students go home, campus gets deserted, and I get to relax a little. I'm not quite there yet .... but it's close. So. close.
Thanksgiving was so nice. Lots of family time, although my nephew BradyPants was whisked away to my brother-in-law's family for the weekend - (I call dibs for Christmas, people). We had a lovely Thanksgiving brunch with my mom, my stepdad Mike, Cathy, her husband Wes, me, Jacob and Anne Marie (who totally ran a half marathon on Thanksgiving and then came and hung out because she is a ROCK STAR). I ate an enormous amount of food, and then I worked on this all day:

Central Park. Modeled by Cathy.

Front view.

I was trying for the J.Crew catalog blurry shot.
On Friday, we headed to Missisippi for a visit with Jacob's grandparents. And I got out an old project that's been sitting in my knitting basket...

The Must-Have Cardigan.
One trip to Mississippi = two fronts complete.
Just two sleeves and some finishing and this baby is DONE. It's looking a little short right now, but methinks a good blocking will make her fit nicely.
A trip to Mississippi with Jacob's family almost ALWAYS means one thing: a casino trip. And so we went. Here's what went down:

Jacob hit it big on the slots.
Seriously. He did. That boy is lucky. And, by extension, I am lucky too. I think we're gonna get a new mattress....
Yay fun weekend. I'm so thankful for all the wonderful people in my life.
And also for yarn.

That sweater is fantastic. Grats on your winnings! My DH is always the big winner. I throw my money away on the slots and then give the rest to him so he can win it big at black jack :P

So you know, I had to order this issue of KnitScene (and, yeah, the spring issue too) just because of your blog! As soon as I get through my Christmas knitting list - the Central Park is my next big selfish project.

I ordered up the magazine in hopes that I will have some time to try and knit one up as well. I am new to knitting sweaters, but seeing yours has insprired me to give it a try. Now to choose a color....

oooooooooooooooooo. Ok, so i'm kind of having a spell where i'm so bored of knitting the stockinette part of my sweater (no awesome cables like yours), and when that happens, i start randomly browsing the internet for inspiration. Which is where I found your blog. Now I kind of want to call in sick so I can lay on the couch all day and knit. Your sweater is AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!

you coulda' put up another 10 or so pics of that hoodie - you did such a great job on it - your sis is really lovin' it. Great winnings for Jacob and I can think of a NUMBER of reasons that would make a new mattress mighty sexy!! The must have is looking pretty good too - you do inspire me - just not enough to start a sweater requiring skeins and skeins of yarn - I'm still working on the same socks-on-2-circs AND just starting the meatball hat!! Sounds like y'all had a really nice southern Thanksgiving! Oh, and yeah you gotta' demand extra time with the nephew Christmas - he needs balanced exposure to both sides of the fam'bly!
Posted by robin | November 27, 2006 10:56 AM
i could do with even more photos - that sweater looks great on its own and especially nice on cathy.
yay for jacob and his impressive-looking winnings!
Posted by karen | November 27, 2006 10:47 AM
OK, so Jacob won $$$ at the casino at you're going to buy a mattress??? There's something wrong with that. I hope you can sneak in a nice dinner (or maybe some yarn...) Mattress = not too sexy, Carrie! OK, not like yarn is any better...
CP Hoodie and MH Cardi look great!!!
Posted by Elinor | November 27, 2006 10:46 AM
Central park is SO beautiful!!!
I can't believe that Jacob won all of that money...and didn't lose it back to the casino, congrats!
PS Your mom makes the best Sweet Potato Souflle ever.
