Black Cloud
So my family (lovingly) calls me 'Black Cloud' sometimes because every now and then, I get these runs of bad luck, like a little thunderstorm following me wherever I go.

Like this.
And these past two weeks have been a little cloudier than usual...

The Scene of the Crime.
Exactly a week after our cars got broken into at my house, I came out to my parking lot at work to find that someone had smashed into my driver's side view mirror and left the mess for me to find. No note. Now, I guess it could be someone who had a big backpack and didn't realize they'd done it, but ... yeah. Probably not.
I've decided to try and install the new mirror myself. I ordered it online for $70, and it's on the way. I realize this may be a ridiculous venture, but try and stop me. JUST TRY.
Ahem.
Okay. I realize that my brand of bad luck is actually very minor compared to lots of other things happening in the world, so I'm trying not to harp on it. But sometimes I feel like the universe is snickering at me behind her hands...
In much better news, I'm almost done with the body of my Somewhat Cowl.

Just a few more inches.
I used Wendy's pattern update for a more fitted sweater, and it looks like the waist shaping is going to be perfect. I can't wait to see what this will look like when I add the cowl...
My goal is to have the sweater finished by Rhinebeck. RHINEBECK! I've already got my plane ticket and I'm even going to play a little Rhinebeck Blogger Bingo. SO looking forward to this trip. I'm going to spend some time in New York City - I've never really been there as an adult, so AM and I are going to wander around and shop and sightsee. Yay.
And in totally awesome news, two of the coolest people I know just had one of the cutest babies I've ever seen. Congratulations to MJ and Robert - you are going to be kick ass parents.

Don't have a lot of money to buy a building? Don't worry, just because that's achievable to get the loan to resolve such kind of problems. Thence take a small business loan to buy all you need.

Your post reminded me of the Li'l Abner character, Joe Btfsplk:
http://www.lil-abner.com/other.html
There is a diner in Banff, Canada named after this character, who is really rather endearing.
I hope you also have some silver linings with the clouds!

Hey, I am de-lurking after reading your blog for more than a year. Me bad. Hope to see you and other favorite bloggers at Rhinebeck. I work in NYC and would suggest that you and AnneMarie check out Seaport Yarn. It is at 135 William Street on the 5th floor. No sign. It's located on an old office, so there are many rooms of great awesome yarn of all types and great prices too. Nice & helpful staff. I know of no other yarn shop like it. There are some really yummy restaurants nearby too, as well as a cheap dive with great seafood. E-mail me and I'll make a list for you.

Ack! I'm so sorry that happened to you!! And what's with the break ins in front of your house?!? Remember how that happened to me, too, just a little while ago? It sucks!
I really hope your luck picks up soon! Rhinebeck should be a really good break for you. (I'm crossing my fingers.)

ugh. that sucks about the car.
i never had "random" car dings happen when i lived in ga, but it happens far too often up here in new jersey!
you will LOVE rhinebeck! it's beautiful up there...and the scenery is nice, too!

Rhinebeck!! I didn't make it last year but this year I am going!! I hope to meet you :)

Oh that sucks. But then in one weeks time back in July my husband got diagnosed with STage 3 Melanoma Cancer, a tree fell on our car and totaled it, and my husband fell at work and broke both his tibia and fibia and had to have a plate and 7 screws put in his leg.
I'll be glad when 2006 is over.

is that you or cathy? am i crazy to think it's her? i'll see you at rhinebeck and you know, after seeing me your luck will pick up, because i suck in bad luck wherever i go!

I think the culprit was a sorostitute in an SUV.
Tommy IS THE CUTEST!

That. is. a bummerrr. I think you're crafty enough to fix the mirror yourself.
I don't know that I'd be willing to pay seventy bucks for it though.. I'd duct tape a walgreens hand mirror to my windshield. ^_^
Somewhat cowl is looking great. That neckline really IISS low!

Dude, the mirror thing sucks--I think you can totally fix that yourself.
Cool that you'll be spending time in NYC, it's a fun place to visit and live...see you in Rhinebeck.

That's a bummer. I had the same thing happen in a parkinglot involving my rear tail light.

Grrr. I hope the do-it-yourself project goes well. I am so sad not to be going to Rhinebeck. Next year. (I'll be in Alabama for the Kentuck Festival, a very cool art show, so at least I'm missing it for somthing fun.) Have fun in NYC.

oh no :( looks like this string of bad luck involves your car. maybe it's time to give it a lucky charm like a little buddha on the dashboard or burn some sage around and inside of it :)
the SC is almost there! it took me over two hours to pick up all the stitches for the cowl but it was totally worth it. i love that sweater.

Argh! But your thundercloud is sure to pass you by sometime soon. It can't rain forever, right?
I can't wait for Rhinebeck too! Hopefully we'll see e/o up there. :)

Buh...whuh...more time in NYC?! Does that mean i get to spend more than half an hour with you? Because that would be so grand.
Posted by Michelle | September 20, 2006 11:57 AM
I'm with Melly, either it was one giant-ass backpack or a really stupid idiot who should have felt the backpack catch on your mirror. Thoughtless drivers suck.
I took the passenger side mirror off of our Impala in March and I wish I would have thought to try to install it ourselves, lemme know how it goes for future reference, 'kay? I hope your black cloud goes away soon!
Posted by Jenn | September 20, 2006 11:34 AM
My husband has replaced his side mirrors before and found it easy. He said he was surprised more people don't do it. Hopefully you will find it easy too!
Posted by Tania | September 20, 2006 11:21 AM
Ouch. Sorry about the car. Mean people suck. That would have had to have been one hella backpack!
