Busy

Is it Thursday? I've lost track.

School is great. My professors rock, and there are lots of really interesting and different people in my courses. And I get to learn new software programs, and learn about teaching, and be creative and come up with projects. There's a lot of freedom in the two courses I'm taking, and I'm excited. I also got to bring my laptop to class and use the wireless connection in my classroom. Nerding. Out.

I'm also tired, but it's more from a busy work week than from school stuff. It's also the first week of school for the students I advise, so it's busybusybusy on all fronts.

But you probably just want to know if Puppy has a home yet.

I'm so cute!

Puppy is currently being fostered by my friend Jenny. We've had two almost homes for Puppy, and neither worked out. Jenny insists that she is only fostering Puppy and will not be keeping him....

puppy 011
Love me.

We'll see. So, Puppy is still around, and being well-cared for, but he's no longer at my house. I think the Pants realized what was going to happen if Puppy stuck around our place for too long. At any rate, between all of us, Puppy will be fostered until a good permanent home **coughcough Jenny coughcough** is found for him.

Knitting time has been rare lately, although I have a slightly lame progress picture of the silk razor cami:

I swear it's a new picture.

One thing I love about this pattern is that you can easily memorize it, and you can tell where you are by looking at your knitting. It's good for watching TV, or hanging out. (I didn't have the same experience with Orangina, which meant I made a TON of mistakes.)

I have a skirt, with zipper, all ready to go except that it needs to be hemmed, and it's actually pretty cute! I've ordered 3 new sewing patterns recently and as soon as I can get to the fabric store, I'm going to pick some stuff out for those.

And I got new glasses. Because I sat on my old ones and destroyed them. D'oh.

newglasses.jpg
New. Glasses. Time.

And last, but certainly not least, we booked a location for our wedding, and it will be on October 20, 2007. We want some time to save money and plan. YAYAYAYAYAYAY.

I know I've been talking about everything but knitting lately. Perhaps when all these new things become more familiar, I'll be able to fit more knitting. I hope so!

Things Just Keep Getting Better.

So ... it looks like I am going to be in school this semester.

Hooray! Thanks for all the sympathy and good vibes you sent my way ... it really made me feel better. Luckily, the other program was happy to take me back, and I'm already really excited about my classes this semester. Now, instead of a Master's in Internet Technology, I'll be pursuing a Master's in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Design and Development. This semester is going to involve a lot of studio time, learning software, and being creative. I think I'm gonna like it heeerrrrreeeeee....

Let's see, what else? The laptop I ordered for my first program arrived, and I decided to keep it since I'll still be in school. Thus, I'm blogging in bed. So. Happy.

laptop
I checked the battery. It's not one of the exploding ones.

And, Bling is playing tomorrow night (hey Athens and Atlanta folks, this serves as your official notice! Come see us! There's a great Florida band called Velveteen Pink opening for us...it will be fun times. Farm 255.)

Oh. And. The Pants rescued a small puppy from the highway today...and long story short, he's home with us now. There are no plans currently for Puppy to stay with us permanently, but he's going to be here temporarily until we figure out a living situation for him. His name is Puppy because Jacob won't let me name him. Yet.

Puppy wants to give you a big sloppy wet kiss and then bite your finger.

Puppy also wants to play ALL THE TIME with his new best friend, Bella the Giant.

Bella is so HUGE next to Puppy.

Puppy is a schmoo.

There has been knitting, it's just the same old same old : silk tank. You know what that looks like. Knitting has taken a back seat lately to doggy issues and crazy school issues and busybusy work stuff. But it's still there.

Sleepy. Time for bed. Thanks again for all your good vibes...you guys rock!

Moving to Montana soon....

...Gonna be a dental floss tycoon...

Not really. But dude. My allergies are SO. BAD. right now. My doctor yesterday jokingly recommended moving somewhere else to get away from the allergy-inducing climate, and I was seriously considering it for a second. I was convinced that I had bronchitis, or walking pnuemonia, or some horrible whooping cough.

But no. I have Georgia allergies. Ick. Blah blah blah. I'm whining, I know. But I'm tired of feeling SICK! I want to feel energetic and healthy and bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Another reason to become a dental floss tycoon...

my graduate program? GOT. CANCELED. No, really. They sent me an email last night. Sorry, not enough students, your program got canceled. Sorry that you bought a new laptop, and textbooks, and took the GRE and REARRANGED your life, because we canceled your program.

Ahem.

Yeah. Today was supposed to be orientation.

I was actually accepted into two programs, and the other program is still exciting and interesting to me, so I'm working on getting my application reconsidered since I already told them no.

But, I may not be going to graduate school this fall.

I'm flabbergasted. and dumbfounded.

I promise I'll post another entry soon. Meanwhile, here are some random bits of happy.

Special Occasions

I upgraded ye olde blog to Movable Type 3.3 last week (used this tutorial, went smoothly). I noticed while I was importing my entries that my first entry on this here blog was on July 27, 2003.

Three years!

Hooray for bloggy good times. Here's too much information about my blogging history: I actually started blogging earlier in 2003 using a free Geocities website, but I was having so much fun that I quickly upgraded to a Pretty Posies account with Becky. I checked lots of books out of the library on Movable Type and web design, etc, and got lots of encouragement from Becky, my sister Cathy, and my comments.

After two years of fun times with Pretty Posies, I decided to branch out on my own, get some webspace, and buy a domain name (carrieoke.net). I've learned so much about web sites and PHP and CSS and all kinds of other nerdy things from my blog. I've also met lots of incredible people, and several are actually in my real-in-person-everyday-life now (HEJ! Mary Jessica!)

But I don't have to sing the praises of blogging to you guys. I just wanted to say happy birthday to my blog, and thanks to all of you for making it so fun to postpostpost. I'm constantly blown away by the kindness and generosity of people in the crafty blogging community, and I'm so happy and proud to be a part of it.

Not to get sappy or anything. (Sniff.)

Speaking of getting sappy, I'm going to cry my eyes out this weekend when my best teamies Drew and JoAnna get hitched!

teamies.jpg
Somebody's get marrrieeeeeeed....

It's going to be the best weekend ever. Quality time with the teamies, a WEDDING, and then more hanging out with some of my dearest friends in the whole world. There will be animated conversation:

Hey guy!

And AM and I are going to rock the music at the wedding - there will be keyboards! And the flute!

And maybe if we give her enough booze, this girl will clog for us:

Sultry teamie!

Congrats to Drew and JoAnna!

And finally, in knitting news, I've been knitting away on my La Luz silk razor cami:

silktank.jpg
So. Soft.

This yarn is a dream to knit with, and the colors are so rich. I can't wait to finish this one! Maybe I'll have some knitting time while I'm rolling with my homies this weekend...

Swamp Tech

It is so flipping hot. I know it's hot everywhere, so everyone's nodding their heads in agreement. It makes a girl want to hide in her house and knit all weekend long.

I didn't do that, but I was tempted. Instead, I went to Atlanta and saw Quintron and Miss Pussycat at the Drunken Unicorn with Leslie and Anne Marie. It was well worth the drive:

quintronplays.jpg
The blur is Mr. Quintron. The car is the front of his instrument, the Drum Buddy.

Quintron invented this crazy instrument called the Drum Buddy and he plays it at his shows - it's an organ-drum-lights-someotherstuff instrument, and it sounds incredible. His wife, Miss Pussycat, always does a puppet show before they start playing. It's seriously not to be missed, people. And after the show, there was breakdancing in the bar area, and it was AWESOME. Anne Marie got invited to dance, and here's the conversation she had with her dance partner:
-----
Dancing Guy: Hey there. Would you three ladies like to come back to my house and party with me?
Anne Marie: No, thank you. Would you like to move on?
(Dancing Guy moves on.)
-----

Isn't Anne Marie polite? Fun times.

The rest of the weekend was supposed to be a wild crazy blur of late night parties, but apparently I'm not as young as I used to be, and it took me all weekend to recover from Friday night. (This may be partially due to late night Taco Bell on Friday. SUCH a good idea at 2:30am, NOT A GOOD IDEA the next day.) So I stayed in. And knitted.

I saw this lovely Razor Cami on Yarnmonster and decided I needed to knit it. (e and my Orangina have been fighting lately and I had to put her down for a little while.) So, the yummy LaLuz Silk scarf is on hold, and I'm working on the yummy La Luz Silk razor cami:

terrible.jpg
Silky stripey goodness.

I'm not sure how the stripeyness is going to play out in the cami, but I'm excited to see. I'm usually okay with some pooling, etc, so I think I'll like the outcome. And it's so nice and soft and pretty to knit with.

On Sunday, I got pick the Pants up at the airport - he was away all last week on a super grown-up business trip. I was really, really glad to have him home. Especially when he arrived home and started dancing with Bella:

slowdance.jpg
Bella LOVES to slow dance with Jacob.

Aw, my schmoos.

School starts in 14 days. So. Nervous. Thank goodness for the Pants, and my doggies, and my friends, and kniting, and TIVO. These things keep me sane. (ooh! I ordered my first sewing pattern today. Can't wait!)
