Forces of Nature
People. We've got some situations. For instance, the I'm-about-to-be-an-aunt-situation. This particular situation brings me a great amount of excitement and happiness, since it's my first nephew, and clearly he will be the world's coolest baby. However, said baby has decided that he MIGHT join us in the world THIS WEEKEND! which means no MSW for me. (It should be noted that my older sister insisted that I go, but DUDE, I'm not even going to risk missing his arrival.) Yarn festivals come and go, but tiny baby schmoo arrivals are once in a lifetime.
So, I won't be at MSW this weekend. The only thing I'd really planned to buy was some Socks That Rock, so I may ask Anne Marie to pick me up a skein or two. Or maybe just pet the alpacas for me. I will miss the blogger sightings, but there's always Rhinebeck.
The knitting situation is this: I keep screwing up Green Gable. Here's what it looked like right before I frogged the whole thing:

It's super cute. And totally messed up.
I kept getting an extra stitch in the lace pattern, and I tried to ignore it the first go-round, and it looked like poo. So, I ripped and restarted last night (after knitting about 5 inches on the Ballet Shirt from Loop-d-loop, then changing my mind). I'm still getting the extra stitch, but the High Energy Genius looked at the pattern with me today and figured out my mistake. She is my hero. [And also, she is a schmoo deserving of many good vibes right now due to her own particular situations. GO GO HEE! ]
And here's a little something I'm knitting up for mememe: a Jaywalker.

In Socks That Rock, some yummy pinky color.
Jaywalkers are cool because they love to hug narrow little skinny feet like mine. Of course I've already managed to screw up one of the increases, but I'm not ripping. They are for me, and I'll fudge it. I'm okay with fudging.
Since tiny nephew schmoo could be here any minute, I need to get my butt in gear and sew some snaps on his onesie. Pictures as soon as I do that, I promise!
Everybody travel safely to ye olde Maryland Sheep and Wool, and I'm hoping for a dry weekend for you all.

congrats on the about to be an aunt situation! so cool. I'm so waiting for my brother to have a baby which will of course be in contention with your nephew for coolest baby ever.

Congrats on your engagement *and* on your little nephew guy! All wonderful things. Babies are a great excuse for knitting socks, and hats, and all sorts of things that only take about 45 minutes each and can be wild happy colors. The jaywalker is pretty darn cool, too! I need to get my hands on some STR at some point... but alas, I'm not up at MS&W with all those cool people, either. Bummer. Have an exciting weekend!

Hi, Carrie! Please, please, please reveal HEJ's secret fix for people who always get one extra stitch in their lace patterns! I have the same problem, and it DRIVES ME NUTS.
Congrats on the engagement! You are a lucky schmoo. Lots of hugs to the baby and mommy-to-be!

As someone-about-to-start the ballet top, is there a problem? Or is it just an aesthetic wanting the lace look? Congratulations on all your family news!

I am sure you will have a wonderful weekend, and you are so right -- there will be many more S&W in your future. Congruatulations, Auntie!

Carrie:
I completely screwed up the lace part, too. I had one less stitch than I should have. I didn't notice it until I was 4 repeats into the pattern. It didn't look like the lace on the model at all. It's actually a diagonal lace pattern that is staying!! It looks pretty cool to me, and I'm planning on making another GG in the future. I'll be sure to get that one right. I'll post pics on the KAL site this weekend.
Congrats to your sister!! I know you're excited. I just became an aunt for the first time to two twin boys. It's so much fun to spoil them and then send them back to their mother!

I'm so sorry you had to frog! But better to frog than have it look like poo :-)
Congrats on your soon to be aunt status! Let us know when your nephew makes his appearance, okay?

How can you stand the excitement?! Now you're going to be an aunt, too? I'm sure you'll be missed at the big fiber fest, but I hope that you have something smaller and cuter to keep your attention.

You'll certainly be missed this weekend...but duty calls! Being there for the day your nephew arrives will be totally amazing, I'm sure.

A baby schmoo is definitely more important. Take lots of pictures.

Bummer that I'll miss seeing you at MSW, but YAY-HOORAY for being an Aunty soon! May your sister have a safe, smooth and quick delivery!

oh, you are totally making the right call. (even tho i really wanted to me you!) maybe someone needs to knit a carrieoke doll and bring her along?

New babies > wool festival (barely, but still a winner). I have been really admiring the green gable pattern lately...
I'm STILL trying to finish my second jaywalker sock - it is definitely the perfect pattern for narrow feet (alas, not the case here - I had to go up a size due to the lack of stretchiness).
BTW - congrats on your engagement to the pants! And on your impending aunt-ness!

Go baby!! I will be going to Rhinebeck so I hope to meet you. I'll be going with the ladies from my once-a-month knitting group. They're like my other "mom"s!
Posted by Michelle | May 4, 2006 6:26 PM
I'm sorry you'll miss the festival, but you're absolutely right -- you can't miss baby schmoo arrivals!
What colors of STR would you like? I am planning on hitting the booth first, along with the Koigu booth. I'd be glad to get you a couple of skeins, assuming they don't sell out within the first stampede. :)
I have been so buried in Sockapaloooza knitting and the vagaries of life that I didn't get a chance to wish you bestest congrats on your engagement, AND your impending aunt-hood! So...WOOHOO, and stuff! :)

Oh and if you need STR, just let me know. I get it straight from the source.

Go little baby, go! I was present at the Birth That Made Me An Aunt, and it was the BEST thing, ever. Little niece/nephew schmoos are the best!

So I've completely fallen out of the blogging universe lately, and decided after months of neglect to stop in on you only to find out that you're engaged AND about to become an aunt! That is so wonderful, Carrie. Congrats to you and yours. I am so happy that I stopped by.
