Surprise!
Well. This weekend didn't exactly turned out as planned, but as there were some pleasant surprises mixed in with the not-so-pleasant, I'm okay with it.
(Pleasant) Surprise #1:
The Pants surprised me with a little something to make my running go by more quickly....

Tiny thing!
It's an iPod nano. It's black. and it's so tiny and cute. it's a NanoSchmoo! This was completely unexpected, and totally awesome, and now I'm not the only person in the world without an iPod!!! Whee. The Pants, he is a schmoo fer sure. So I loaded up my NanoSchmoo with songs in preparation for my marathon relay on Saturday, which brings me to:
(Unpleasant) Surprise #2:
We didn't make it to the marathon relay. About 2 hours outside of Athens, a deer came barreling onto the highway out of nowhere, and we hit the deer. We are okay, but my car, well, she is not so okay. My driver's side door will not open at all from the outside, and will open from the inside with much difficulty. One of the front headlights is also completely destroyed, so we got pulled over on the way home for driving with one headlight. D'oh. Luckily, the cop was super nice, and we made it home in one piece, and we are safe, but we couldn't drive to Myrtle Beach in my gimpy car and we missed the race. Gah. But we are very, very lucky, and Jacob is a great driver, and I'm just glad that we weren't hurt.
(Pleasant) Surprise #3:
Thursday night's Bling show was packed and rowdy and SO FUN, and we got called back for an encore (!!) and some dude gave me a rose from the audience and was like "I love you, Carrieoke!!" FUN TIMES. They videotaped the show, too, so maybe I can post a short clip sometime soon. Here's a picture of me and Richard (our frontman) looking like a weird Russian mafia couple.

Yes, that's a wig.
I was wearing green sequins because we were playing the 40 Watt and I felt fancy.
(Unpleasant) Surprise #4:
I woke up on Saturday, the morning after the deer crash, with a horrible, burning, aching sore throat, and I'm 99.9% sure that it's strep throat. I've had LOTS of cases of strep throat, and I know what it feels like. Hopefully I'm totally wrong, but I'm going to the doctor on Monday to find out. But you know what being sick means:
(Pleasant) Surprise #5:
LOTS of knitting time. Only 4 inches left to go in ye olde Lace Leaf Pullover:

I think she'll be finished by this evening.
So, in the end, it was a nice weekend. Even though I missed the relay and watching some fabulous folks finish their races (go Leslie! and go Anne Marie! and go Cathy and HEJ and Wes, who ran even though we weren't there to run our parts of the relay!!), I got some needed rest and knitting time, and I got to watch a bunch of movies with my schmoos. That was pleasant, indeed.

Oh Carrie! You know I know specifically the scariness and total unpleasance of hitting a deer. Oh my gosh! I am glad you're in one piece and safe, and sorry to hear about the possible strep. Take care of you!!

OMG! I'm just soooo glad you guys are OK!!!! I mean, I'm sorry missed the race, but I'm glad it was the CAR that got jacked up and not you!!!!
My roomate's dad gave me a deer whistle to put on the front of my car... maybe I should actually put it ON. It's not helping me sitting on my desk...
ooooh and YAAAY FOR THE iPOD!!! I think the iPod is the second greatest invention of my generation. I LOVE MINE!

That is such a bummer about missing your race! But it's so lucky that you escaped unharmed. Love the green sequin dress! Glad to see that the deer didn't ruin ALL your fun.

Is that the return of the green sequin dress??!?!!! I love that thing!!! I'm sure you burned up the 40watt in that green sequiny goodness.
[For some reason I just got an image of you wearing that dress with a huge afro wig on - remember Prom, you and Jacob's first "date?"]

Ok, um, Congrats on the new nano. So cute. Leo's got one like it and we refer to any small zipable pocket as a "nano pocket" now. :)
Sorry bout your car car and mising the races, but the leafy pullover will be great, so whoo hoo.

So glad you are all okay - sad for the deer - but it's so hard for them to stay out of the way nowadays!! The nano is oh-so-cute and I'm sure you'll love it when you're running. Hmmm - maybe if I get a nano I'll start running - damn - I guess I'm just not there yet. I thought that was a Russian figure skating couple in that picture - you mean that was YOU!!?!?!

HOWDEEEEEEEEE DO, you are rocking in that wig :)
*waves hand around in the air* i'm another that doesn't have an ipod so now you can make fun of me for not having one. Even worse, I haven't seen one in person yet either.......insert get your coat icon*
Sorry to hear about your car but glad that you were all fine and dandy.

I'm just so relieved that you all weren't hurt!
(I took 441 on the way home to avoid the deer-heavy highway 78)
And, my dear, you were not the only one without an iPod...now I am definately the only one!
Your sweater looks great. It's going to be ready just in time for you to wear in the upcoming chilly weather.

Yikes and yay all at the same time, I'm really glad you guys weren't hurt in the car. Those deer, they're tricky creatures.
No need to worry about the IPod, I think I'll officially be the last person in the universe who doesn't have one.
Posted by Jenna | February 20, 2006 11:05 PM
When I'm sick, I rarely knit, unfortunately. I just sleep and sleep.
BTW, I love the buttons you made for Sarah. I've been meaning to ask you if you could possibly make me one? *runs away to hide if you are offended by my asking*

Love your Nano! I just got it in white!

Sorry to hear about the deer. Poor little guy, poor car, glad you're all okay.
I think you look like Tina Fey in that picture.
That sweater is beautiful; I can't wait to see finished!

#1 yay! Nice Nano!
#2 ohhhh - so glad you are ok. I assume the deer is not.
#3 YAY! You and Richard are so Boris and Natasha meet James Bond in that photo.
#4 Boooooo
#5 YAY!!!
Hope you and your car are feeling better soon!
I hate to be a blog-bother... but if you have a moment to spare, I was wondering about the blog book you made for AM. I wanted to make one for a friend, but wasn't sure how to go about it.
- Regular reader, irregular commenter, always a fan, well, not the kind of fan to show up with a rose, but nevertheless, a fan (Don't worry, I'm a safe distance away in Nova Scotia and Jodi G. can vouch that I'm not dangerous.)

I'm so sorry about the deer and your car :-( But you know what? You are sooooo working that wig. Heck, yeah!

Yikes! I'm glad you guys are ok!! And I hope you feel better soon!
Posted by allison | February 20, 2006 9:13 AM
When I saw the picture of you in the wig (before I realized it was you), I thought, "Hey, who's that foxy Asian lady?" And you don't really look Asian. Hunh! Go figure.
Hope you're feeling better, but stop mo-lesting the wildlife. Glad you're safe, though.

Oh, Schmoo. At least there is some good, yes? We missed you. Are you still sicky mcgoo? ;-(

Congrats on the new toy and the great concert! The rest is stinky... Glad you're all right :)

Gosh Carrie, I am sooo happy you all are ok. What a horrible thing...
Love the Bling pic and the iPod.

We missed you this weekend but I'm so glad you guys are OK! I can't believe you wore my favorite green sequin dress and I missed it!

Deer are a real problem here, too. One treacherous area around here for the Bambi's is behind our local Target. Some would say it's because of the woods. I'm thinking they're awaiting the weekly ad AND the Starbucks leftovers! Glad you are both ok, but sorry for your car. Maybe you could knit a BIG band-aid for it...
Being sick is a drag, but the knitting time is ever soooo grand. (I did the sick thing LAST week, and boy, was I a knitting fool!)
And, to make Cara feel better...I'm without Ipod, too. Boo Hoo!
Posted by Lisa | February 19, 2006 8:49 PM
So glad to hear that you're OK! Take it easy so that you can feel better soon... movies and knitting and schmoo time sound like they're just what the doctor ordered.
Posted by Sarah | February 19, 2006 8:11 PM
oh, thank goodness you are all ok! your guardian angel must have been working overtime.(being from PA, i know what deer can do to cars.)
great progress on the sweater and how super about your neeew ipod! you're gonna love it.

Oh, so glad you guys are okay. What about the deer, though?
And you totally look like a gun moll in that picture.

I'm so conflicted! I'm sorry and yay all at the same time. :-) I'm so glad you guys were okay. Good luck with the car stuff, that can be such a pain! I hope you feel better soon, too, but in the meantime get lots of knitting time and nano time, too!
Posted by sarah b. | February 19, 2006 5:27 PM
The deer and the throat are not good news, but I'm glad to hear that everyone is fine otherwise (from the accident). The Pants is quite a fellow, although you probably didn't need me to tell you that.
Posted by Gina | February 19, 2006 5:20 PM
UGH! So sorry about your car and the deer and the race, but thankfully you guys are okay. Cars can be replaced - Carrie and Jacob cannot! :-)
Oh and you're not the last person without an Ipod. I am. ;-)

I'm SO glad you're ok after the deer incident! My brother and sister have both hit/been hit by deer, and long years ago my boyfriend hit one while I was in the car with him. Not fun.
Feel better soon!

i'm sorry to hear about the deer and your car. there are a lot of deer around here, so i'm constantly worried about that happening
enjoy the nano! isn't it so tiny?! now you can listen to knitting podcasts while you knit!
i hope you feel better!!
Posted by kim | February 19, 2006 3:34 PM
Ouch. I've never hit a deer, but one time a deer hit ME, while I was stopped on a dirt road outside Watkinsville. At least you didn't end up running with strep throat... Small consolation, I know, and hope you're feeling better soon.

Glad to read that you're okay. Hitting a deer is a scary thing. I had a deer experience involving the first day of deer hunting season, a touring theater company, a brand new company van, a Michigan State Trooper who was also a model (that fact came out when he found out we were a theater company), and an all-night, three state rental car relay to get to the next show. Good times.
The sweater is fabulous. Knit through the sore throat pain!

How scary--I hit a deer once in my dad's tank of a cadillac, and the car was totalled. Glad you both came out ok!
