It's been busy around these parts. In addition to work busy-ness,I'm trying to study for the GRE, and train for a race in February (it's a marathon relay, and my portion is 5 miles. I think.) And also maybe I have several knitting projects on the needles. GAH!

Deep breaths.

It's a happy kind of busy, though. I like to have my schedule full - it's the only way for me to set deadlines and organize.

This also makes me happy:

Um, prettiest, softest, squishiest socks EVER.
Click here for a ribs-and-cables closeup.

These socks are mine, courtesy of a holiday sock swap, and they are from the lovely Brainylady (thankyouthankyou!). They are seriously the nicest knitted socks I have ever seen. and worn. Woo-hoo!

Hmm. Other things that make me happy include:

bellaresting.jpg
My Bellaschmoo resting her head on my lap while I knit;

colorme.jpg
taking crazy pictures with my new camera;
(I can do that color thing IN CAMERA. so. fun.)

fiercejacob.jpg
Jacob being fierce;

almost finishing Tubey!!! wheeeeeee.
Binding off has commenced. Just that and a little of a sleeve to go!

Just in case you were wondering, things that don't make me happy include:
1. Not knowing all 12 of the top GRE vocab words;
2. Finishing Season 4 of Six Feet Under on DVD when Season 5 doesn't come out until MARCH 28;
3. Sleeping through my alarm;
4. Being told that my office smells musty.

And whoever said the GRE was easy ... did anyone say that? well, if they did, they are WRONG. My study book makes me feel like a dunce, fersure. And I'm a word girl. The only thing that's making me feel a tiny bit better is that the program I'm applying to doesn't look at my analytical. yayayayayayayay. and also THANK GOD.

I am absolutely terrified of the GRE... I have been putting off taking in for years.

It is the math section that really gives me nightmares- I think the last time I took math I was 18 or 19 years old. ACK! I am so screwed.

Keep us updated on how it goes! When are you taking it? We can start a prayer circle.

It’s 11:28PM and I was about to go to bed when I came across your blog. I don’t knit but I found your blog highly amusing, and I read through your 100 things list despite my intense fatigue.

Tomorrow I’ll probably have panda eyes but it’ll be worth it.

Don't worry about the GRE....my mom took it and didn't score high enough on the math to get into her program, but after she talked to the department they let her in on a provisional admission. Basically, she just had to make good grades her first semester to prove that she could do the work which she did. And now she graduates this year so it can be done!!!!! Don't give up hope :)

Just be sure to take lots of deep breaths and don't cram with the studying. From what I've heard of the GRE, it sounds ridiculous. Like, how does relearning high school math (FOILing anyone?) show that you've learned shit in college and are ready for grad school? I'm sure you'll rock it out, though.

ok, for the GRE, the barrons will make you relearn life. fuhgettaboutit. there's a book called cracking the system, but the princeton review board - this book will teach you *how* to take the GRE, including how the questions are structured, the top analogies, vocab you have to know, and a bit of math review that will save yer butt. Everyone used barrons but it's just like craming. princeton is like - these will be easy, these will be hard, here's how much time you'll get, here's how to do the paragraphs. it rocked, and so did my scores. good luck- i bet you'll rock it too!

You are adorable and I love your blog. I used to live in Athens. My friend Dave used to work with you at Molly O'Shea's and I believe Jacob used to live with a friend of mine some years ago. I'm in Philly now, but if I'd known about you last year, I would've made you knit with me!!!

It's been a long time...hope all is well. I love what your camera can do...all Black & White with one thing in color! Awesome!

Amen on the Six Feet Under, girl - my household was ADDICTED to it on netflix - we watched all four seasons in record time, and then - wham! Like running up against a brick wall, no more.

Love the socks, love your new camera, love the fact that you run marathons!

Your new camera is AWESOME! I can't wait to see Tubey all done. I want to try making it too.

That picture of Bella is so cute. Iamatinyschmoo.com

You will do great on the GRE! I believe in you!

You're still gonna totally kick that GRE's ass! Just wait! I can't WAIT to see your sis' Tubey! It looks FAB!

Oooh cool panta photo on the swanky new camera! Looking forward to seeing a finished tubey, I really liked the start of it that you photographed.

Ok, I have to know...what kind of camera do you have?

Good luck studying for your GRE! I'm sure you'll be fierce and kick some butt! :)

Just goes to show we all have different strengths. The analytical was my strong point. The other two parts weren't so hot. Luckily for me, the analytical was what counted.

I'm sure you'll do well on the parts that count for you.

Those socks are fabulous! Brainylady did a great job. They're from the last IK, right? At least I think they are. I have looked at the gorgeous pic enough times to recognize them I imagine.

Lots of things I could comment on, but let me just tell you this: I am so impressed with the running. I have always wanted to be *that person* who could say "So I'm going to be in a marathon..." but I can't. Running bothers my knees too much. Very envious. Keep it up!

Hi Carrie, I love your blog! I'm wondering what GRE study book you're using. I'll be taking the GRE by this summer, and I'm looking for recommendations.

Sounds like you're working hard with the studying. I'm sure you'll do great. Good luck!

You are just darn fabulous as is your little schmoo and The Pants. Great pics - love that color feature.

I've never taken the GRE but like all standardized tests if anyone makes 100% then they have NOT been tested - You my dear couldn't possibly do anything but come as close as anyone ever has to ACEing the darn thing.

Your socks are lovely and they LOOK soft and squishy - even online - what a marvelous gift.

You sure they didn't say your office smelled "musky" - of or having the smell of musk (The material extracted from musk-sacs has a strong animal-smell. The natural product, as well as chemicals with musk-like odors, are of great significance in the perfume industry. They give perfumes a warm, erotic note and have outstanding fixing characteristics. Perfumes that are based on musk notes are especially subject to fashionable trends.) Now that could be considered a compliment or maybe even a come-on!

Oh, Carrie, don't worry about the GRE! You'll do wonderfully. When I took it, I concentrated on studying the math since I hadn't taken it in years, and got about the same score that I got on my SATs, and you're definitely much more of a wordsmith. You'll do great!

I love the black and white picture with the color for the panta! Can I ask what camera you have? Mine recently broke and I am in the market! The GRE's left me feeling ridiculously stupid.... but I still got into a good school! Good luck! I am sure you will do fine!

we'll have to talk studying. this LSAT prep shit is killing me.

Oh, the socks look very happy in their new home! And I think Tania's comment is right on. I wish I'd memorized the dictionary. Go learn some big, obscure words, and you'll be fine!

Great socks Carrie! I knit the same ones in Mountain Colors, and I love them.

I also love Six Feet Under. I just purchased seasons 2 and 3 with some Best Buy Rewards Certificates and will be saving up for seasons 4 and 5. It's all pretty new to me since I didn't start watching it until half way through season 3.

So delightfully twisted!!

I love the picture with the blue headwrap! It's gorgeous! I'm also anxiously awaiting the pic of the finished Tubey.

We just finished watching S4 of six feet under and just couldn't wait so we downloaded the first two episodes of S5...HBO is so good!!

The socks do look great, and your Bellaschmoo looks adorable. I'm wondering, though, what ARE the top 12 GRE vocabulary words?? (grin)

Don't worry about not knowing the vocab words now, just learn them eventually because those "most common words" really do show up. I forgot to look at the list until the morning of the GRE, and damned if a few of them (I only remember "mellifluous") weren't on there. I actually laughed out loud when I saw them.

And those are some hot socks.

Jacob is fierce and your bottom is musty.

Love, yer sis

This post made me happy. LOVE the socks. Love the camera with the color thing. Love the fierceness. OK, feeling not so much love for the GRE, but you'll get through it.

Wow you knitting looks great! All of it. What setting do you use to take a picute and only have the blue in it everything else black and white?

I did number 2 on your "not happy" list before the series finale. Made me VERY unhappy, as I hadn't seen Season 5, at ALL, but couldn't resist Season 6, being the last and all.

Your new socks look great, and I can't wait to see the finished Tubey!

I like being busy too. I am working on being more busy by getting a 2nd job to pay off some debt. Ick, that sucks, but it's got to be done.

Socks look great. Love them.

What sort of camera did you get? I am looking for a new camera sometime in the near future.

Good luck on your GRE prep and can't wait to see the Tubey!

let's practice with WORD RACERS!

I took the GREs over a year ago and the worst part was the writing. The topics are just stupid. The other stuff was much easier. I didn't find any book too helpful. For me it was all about remembering math formulas (like triangles and such) and reading the dictionary. I made flashcards from the dictionary and that helped me because I was able to begin associating some of the words with other languages I speak and was able to deconstruct some if I didn't know the meaning. That vocab was helpful not only for the antonyms and bridges, but also for the sentence completions because they will throw in all the GRE words there too.
Good luck!

good luck with the gre..and love the socks...and best of luck managing everything...remember you are fabulous!

Hello. You are the smartest person I know when it comes to words and things that have to do with words, like definitions and kicking ass as Boggle. I think you are going to do extremely well on the GRE. Harvard will probably be banging down your door when they hear about your score.

And tubey is awesome!

And Jacob has got the look.

Those socks are amazing! I would love to make them. Good luck with the GRE prep and also with the run.

Your camera is awesome! I so need a new one.

LOL--when I took the GRE for grad school, the ONLY thing that mattered was the analytical section. For all three sections, the Barron's (I think) prep book worked like magic; doing all the practice exams helped immensely.

If it makes you feel better, the verbal section is notoriously impossible, and the average score is something like 450 (at least, it was two years ago). So if your practice numbers aren't looking so hot, rest assured there will be a giant curve when it comes to percentile rankings.

Good luck!
