It Was a Very Good Year
I can't believe it's 2006. Dude. We rang in the New Year in Colorado, which included a huge Italian dinner, lots of warm clothes, and Cranium until 3 AM. Super fun. We even watched the ball drop, even though it was totally recorded and we were celebrating two hours after the East Coast. Here's what New Year's looks like in Colorado:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hee. Here's what happens when JoAnna takes a picture and tells us to be "fierce":

Fierce.
Our Colorado trip was amazing. I have never seen that much snow actually falling FROM THE SKY. EVER. I've never felt so Southern in my life - did you know that people DRIVE IN THE SNOW? AND ICE? Geez. You learn something new every day.
We also got to celebrate Drew's birthday with him:

I just love these guys.
There are a million pictures I want to show you, so they will probably appear through my next couple of entries. I also knit non-stop while I was there, probably to keep my freezing little hands warm, so I have some progress to show you. But, today I want to do a 2005 end-of-year-roundup. Because you probably haven't read enough of them on other blogs. Yahoo. Click on the extended entry to read more:
In 2005, I did the following:
--learned how to sew. (See denim quilt for proof.)
--learned how to seam my knitting. (See Super Sweater for proof.)
--watched my twin sis run a marathon (GO CATHY!)
--got mentioned in the same online article with Sean Hannity. (Chicago Sun-Times, April 10. I kid you not.)
--knit lace for the first time.
--met more bloggers than I ever dreamed I would (let's hear it for MSW and Rhinebeck!)
--got a tattoo (and it's knitting related, bay-bee.)
--ran my first race (a half-marathon.)
--joined a local hip-hop band (Bling.)
--started and maintained a side business in web design (yaaaaay.)
--quit smoking (for real this time.)
In 2005, I learned the following:
--It is actually possible to love your job.
--It's okay to quit something if it's not fun anymore (at least I *tried* trapeze!)
--No matter how crappy your car is, ALWAYS HIDE YOUR PURSE.
And here are some new things I'm trying in 2006:
--I'm applying to grad school (GRE this month!)
--and ... I'm going to be an aunt! My older sister Michelle is pregnant. Oh, the knitting....
How's that for starting a new year?

Happy New Year!!! Hope your 2006 makes your 2005 pale in comparison!
(PS: When I first moved up north from GA, I was so freaked out by everyone driving in the snow and ice!! I made my BF drive everywhere, and he'd get so mad because I would be freaking out thinking that the roads were ice covered, and the whole time it was that they were stained white from the salt. That is a lot of salt. They have it in the freakin' budget up here. Finally got the BF to understand we don't do salt in GA... just dirt. We got lots of red dirt in GA and we throw THAT on the road. Salt is for French Fries. He now makes me drive in the winter.)

I just read your comments and I saw that last time I signed as "Anne Marieq" like Stacy Q from the 80's.

2005 was impressive, it looks like 2006 is heading that way for you, too. Enjoy and no matter what, keep having fun.

Yay Carrie! That's a nice accomplished list you got going there! And you've got some great stuff ahead of you in 2006... my 1st neice is about to turn 1, and aunti-hood has been the best thing ever. Unlimited baby smooches, no middle-of-the-night wakeups. Bomb!

Happy New Year! Good luck with the GREs and the grad school stuff. What do you want to study? Grad school is on my to-do list this year, too!

The best part about going back to school? You can hit up all the LYS during NON-PEAK HOURS. There's nothing better than showing up at Wednesday, 10 AM when the rest of society is at work. :)

Happy new year Carrie! Good luck with the grad school applications and GRE. It's a big pain in the rear, but probably worth it in the end. ;)

Grad school? Awesome! If you want my advice, pick a school less than 800 miles from Jacob. Gah.

What a year! 2005 was big, and it sounds like 2006 will be too! Good luck on the GRE (Brainy Alison just took it, but don't read her post about it if you haven't already, because it'll be discouraging and you don't want that).

Good luck with the GRE's ... I took them way back in 1996 when you actually had to use a no. 2 pencil instead of your computer!

So many accomplishments this year, good for you! Good luck on the GRE's... I wimped out and am in a grad program that didn't require them. Me and standardized testing don't mix. Hope to see you at MDS&W again!

Congrats to you and your sister on your niece/nephew to come! :-) Good luck on the GRE! It will feel like hell (at least it did to me), but it will be worth it when it's over. Study the math...that's where I felt like my studying made the most difference because I had forgotten all my geometry/algebra garbage. Oh, and do the practice tests. They are boring at the time but they help you get acquainted with the question format. And that is all of my unsolicited advice. :-) Happy New Year!

You have the most wonderful sense of fun. I love reading your blog. You have inspired me to step beyond scarves and dishcloths this year. Way to go on the application to grad school. You'll be so glad you did. It will open doors. (So will Microsoft Certifications). happy knitting in 2006, Barbara
