The Countdown

Half Marathon in 4 days. Acck. It's raining really hard in Athens right now ... I really, really hope it's not raining on race day. If it is, that's okay, but my preference would be NOT to run in chilly temps and rain. Acck. Send dry weather vibes.

In other news, I finished a sock!

Isn't she pretty?

It's the Jaywalker pattern, using Lorna's Laces and size 1 circs. I'v already cast on Sock #2, and she's moving along nicely. These are for a sock swap so I'm hoping that they fit the recipient. I think they will. I know you're heard it all over the knitting blogs, but this pattern is super fun and the finished sock is so nice. And it really shows off the pretty variegation in this yarn!

I went kind of crazy last night and worked on a bunch of different projects while watching Jacob play Super Monkey Ball 2. (SO. FUN.) I knitted some on my cashmere sweater - (scroll down to see its beginnings) - I knitted about 8 inches on the back piece. It's so soft and pretty, but my wrists were aching a little after that. So, I put that down and cast on a hat out of Kool Wool, modeled after this hat, which is my favorite knitted hat EVER. (I have so much mustard-colored Kool Wool. Seriously. More than I really need.)

I knitted on that for a while, and then my hands and wrists starting to get angry with me, and I had to put down the knitting. D'oh. Hopefully my hands are rested now so I can pick up the insane knitting pace today. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

And, just because I like to see the finished knits in their natural habitat, here's Jacob wearing the sweater I knitted him for Christmas last year:

housesweater.jpg
House Sweater.

The sweater does look good on Jacob, but I have to admit that it's not really suitable for wear outside the house. There are some major mistakes in this sweater...I actually cringe when I see it sometimes. And they aren't mistakes that only a knitter would notice - there are some shoulder seam issues, and some stray yarn pieces, and a bumpy situation on his right shoulder.

BUT. It was a great learning piece, and Jacob does wear it all the time at home. We like to call it his "house sweater". I can't believe how much my finishing has improved since this time last year. I think I used to hurry through it so I could just have A FINISHED KNIT, but now I want A FINISHED KNIT THAT I WILL WEAR. Big difference.

So, yay for that. I'll leave you with a picture of my twin sister, my mom, and me from this weekend - we got lunch on Saturday.

See the family resemblance?
(And also, my gum. Sorry about that.)

Love the color of your jaywalker... and your shiny happy family picture! :D

Yay for Mom-Daughter time! Lucky you to have a sister in the mix, too! You guys are too cute in that photo - all I see are three big smiles! Best of luck with the run!

let me be the 37th person to tell you that those socks look great!!!!

love love love the socky! YAY!

and also? You are going to so totally ROCK that marathon, yo.

you and your mom and your sis are sooo cute! Happy Thanksgiving!

Good luck on the Half Marathon tomorrow! It will be great - they always have lots of volunteers out and the atmosphere is very fun. If there is a woman out by Lenox Mall yelling "it's all downhill from here" that's my mom and don't believe her. You still have a ways to go from there.

I love the socks, I have been eyeing that pattern But I hate #1s they are so small. I like knitting sock on #3s I just posted a picture of my sock progress also.

What an adorable family! Good luck with the marathon. The Lorna's Laces colorway is gorgeous -- which one is that?

oh, wishing you lots of luck!

i remember when you were knitting the "house sweater." i guess i've been reading you a long time, huh? it looks great in the photo.

Well, you can't see the mistakes from that photo, so they can't be THAT bad :)
He looks good in it! It's always so nice when people wear the things you took time to make them a lot.

You, your mom and your sis together - great pic - y'all have the BEST smiles!! My 3 sisters (and 2 bros) will all be together with our mom Thanksgiving - so blessed to be able to be with family. Your socks are great - the Pants' house sweater is just perfect - I'm sure he NEVER notices the things that bug you but isn't it nice to be able to see how far you've come.

The weather's gonna' be great for the half- and you'll complete it in record time - 'cause you're Carrie!!

Hey girl, this is my first post and I must say that I love your site. Even though I'm not a knitter (I crochet), it's nice to know I'm not the only person who has 5 million projects going on at the same time. BTW, you have some awesome finished products! I love your hat and sweater. . .your making me want to come over to the "other side"!=)
Hope to see ya soon!

Take some B-12 and Niacin (make sure to get the non-flush kind). That's my daily regimen for the fantastic pinched nerves in my wrists/elbows and it DOES help with the soreness, etc.

Oh, and "non-flush" has nothing to do with a toilet, I promise. It means your FACE won't get flushed.

I heart your sock. I just started my first Jaywalker, and the pattern ROCKS.

A post full of cuteness! Your socks look great. You and your mom and sis are too cute together!

You are going to ROCK the half marathon! Have a fantastic time and enjoy all of the energy from the crowds. I'll be with you in spirit, running the Chattavegas Turkey Trot 5 miler that day. GO TEAM SCHMOO!

Those are some awesome socks Carrie. Good luck on your half marathon. You are doing soooo great!!

Dry weather vibes coming your way! You will do great! I know what you mean about having a finished item you will actually wear. The first item I have like that is my Audrey sweater. I definitely took the time with finishing on that project. It's great that the sweater is still getting use.

I can't see any mistakes on the house sweater, I think it looks really nice. Finishing really seems like it takes a lot of experience to really master, I still think mine looks like crap. Part of the process.

Rock the half-m yo! I know you will!

Y'all are so beautiful!

Good Luck on the race!! As per one of your posts I thought I would try Super Monkey Ball. OMG! My *kids* are addicted. Now your telling me there is a SMB2!

As for the knitting, I love the sock. Someday, I will have to try socks. :/

Good luck, and hope you stay dry. I fly into ATL on Thursday, right as the race is ending, so I will peer down while we're landing.

And I'm starting the Jaywalker as soon as the yarn gets here! I love the colors in yours.

Love the sock. You and AM have inspired me to start being a Jaywalker myself, once the holiday knitting is complete.

And more importantly...
GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND! I am proud of you for sticking with it! Gooooo Carrie and Team Schmoo!

you guys are so damn cute. the sock looks great! ;)

Dryweatherdryweatherdryweatherdryweather! (That's dry weather vibes rendered in words) Now do me: nosnownosnownosnow. I'm running an 8k on Thanksgiving morning in Buffalo, where they've already had many many inches of the stuff and the forecast for Thursday says there's gonna be more.

Then again, I'm not running nearly as far as you are -- woohoo for Carrie!

Dear Bubba,
Can I have a piece of gum?

PS You are going to be so excited at the race, I don't think you'll even notice the weather. Especially with your new running outfit.

PPS I love the sock! I am going to try to replicate it.

I may have said this before, but you two have the nicest smiles EVER, and i can now see that you get it from your mom :) Gorgeous. PS: i love the london beanie too! so simple yet classic

Best wishes for a successful half marathon!!! You rock it girl.

Have a great run! Those are cool socks.

Hello, coming out of lurkdom for a comment. =) Wow, when you have glasses on I can't tell the difference between you and your sister! It's cold and rainy here in SC, too. Bleah. I do hope it gets nicer for your race. And nice house sweater...I'm sure the bumps and "seaming situations" aren't as bad as you think they are!

Wow, running from Norcross to lenox? that DOES seem far. Like you're running from one TOWN to another. I always did that for a while after I ran my half. I'd drive on my way to an errand and go...hey, I could have RUN that, if I had to. Of course, i never did. I always drove. Which is probably why I have lost my ability to run even down the block. However, the thought was nice while it lasted. Brings new meaning to "I'm just going to run down to the grocery store..." Darn those canned foods are heavy.

GO TEAM SCHMOO! T-minus four days and counting. You will rock that half. We will rock it together.

I just put two and two together. You kept complaining about your wrist hurting on Saturday, and I was thinking, hmm? why does her wrist hurt?

Duh. Because you knit ALL THE TIME.

I *heart* your Jaywalker socks! The colorway you chose is so pretty. Yay!

Good luck with the race! Half marathon, woohoo!

gorgeous sock and three gorgeous ladies.

That's a great photo of you, your mom and your sister. And the socks are pretty good, too. That pattern is certainly taking the blogging world by storm these days! I'm 1/2 done with my first one from Trekking XXL and I really like the pattern.

Dude nice sock! Great work and nice colorway choice. Half marathon, crazy talk--good luck.

Sending you good wishes for your race! How incredibly exciting!

Fabulous Jaywalker! Join the KAL now over at my blog and you can get in on the drawing for SOCKS THAT ROCK! (You know all about that doncha rock star girl!) ;-)

Have a great race!

I have run the Atlanta Half Marathon. It's fun because you start off in Norcross and then you can say, wow, I just ran to Lennox mall. Considering how long it takes to get around by car, it's amazing how far you can go in 13.1 miles. Best of luck.

Your Jaywalker sock looks great! Good luck with your race this weekend.
