I Got Lost Today.
Lost in the country, running an errand for The Pants. Thank goodness I broke my normal gas rule (Carrie's normal gas rule : don't stop to get gas until the car is sputtering and the gas light has been on without flickering for at least two days). Today, I filled up because I saw cheap gas ($2.20 a gallon!). The Gas Gods were smiling on me.
In knitting news, I stopped knitting on the Jaywalker sock, even though I'm about to hit the toe decreases, because the Kool-Aid yarn was calling to me. I wound it up in a ball using my handy ball-winder and swift:

It totally works, too.
And here's what my yummy Kool Aid yarn looked like in a ball:

Pretty greens and blues.
But I couldn't stop with just winding the ball. Clearly, I needed to start my One Skein Wonder so I could see how the yarn actually knitted up. I was a *little* worried that the variegation would look tie-dyed, and although I did sport a tie-dyed shirt while performing with the Show Choir in grade school, it's not really my style these days. Luckily, the variegation looks neat-o.

I'm rockin' the spring colors in the fall. Oh, yeah.

Still working on the sleeves.
My method for the sleeves is VERY scientific. I want something longer than cap sleeves, but I don't think I have enough yarn for actual long sleeves. Here's what I do: I pull a bunch of yarn off of the yarn ball, and knit knit knit on one sleeve. Then, once I run out of the yarn I just pulled off, I count how many sleeve rows I just knitted, and knit the same amount on the other sleeve (using the ball.) Rinse, and repeat, until I run out of yarn. Hopefully that won't result in wonky non-matching arms (and hopefully I can get three quarter sleeves out of the yarn.) (Don't worry - Stef sent separate blue yarn for the ribbing because she so rocks.)
So, that's all the knitting news I've got. The reason I've gotten so much knitting done on this OSW is because I'm watching Alias, Season 4, at a frightening pace. Like, a disc a night. DON'T TELL ME WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF SEASON 4. PLEASE. I know something weird happens with my boyfriend, Vaughn, but don't even hint. I mean it. (Although I have to say, Marshall almost became my boyfriend after watching the episode with the lockdown - you know the one I'm talking about - how funny and cute was he in that episode? I *heart* Marshall.)
Okay. Tonight: choir practice, and then band practice. somewhere in there I will eat dinner, watch four more episodes of Alias, knit, and sleep. And maybe shower, if I get a wild hair.

Hi Carrie!!
I'm glad you're enjoying your Osw Kool Aid Action Kit.
Your dyejob looks awesome!
I'm excited to see how long the sleeves are going to be...you coudl also do extralong ribbing at the sleeve cuff, instead fo doiing them in seed stitch. I think there's enough yarn to do at least 2" of ribbing all the way around the neck and the sleeves.

Your yarn = beautiful :]
I haven't gotten into Alias, despite everyone I know raving about it. So I couldn't spoil it for you if I tried :]

If it's a choice between knitting and showering -- opt for the knitting.

SOO HAPPY! I love the colors and how they ended up and everything. Yaay!

Thank you so much for figuring out how to lengthen the cap sleeves on the OSW, I can finally start mine now! I'm loving the citrus hued variegation BTW!

Oooh..the variegation is knitting up beautifully! What kind of yarn did she send you (it looks soft!)?

Hi Carrie! I have read your blog for quite sometime but never commented. The yarn looks awesome! I think I have to try that. Love the swift and winder! I use my coffee table as a swift and a spice jar as a winder :)

I have no idea what happens at the end of season 4, but I **heart** Marshall, too. He is so funny. Love your Kool-Aid dyed yarn, too!

Those are great yarn colors - can't wait to see the finished OSW. I have a similar swift/winder except my swift is a back of the chair. Works for me!
Oh, and your nails look beautiful!

i'm doing the same thing with gilmore girls, season 3, and i just finished doing the same thing with firefly.
i love the koolaid yarn - i have to get dyeing on some of that. hmm, three-day weekend this weekend ... perfect!

I heart Marshall too (though I'd choose Vaughn over him anyday... bring it on Anne Marie), the show would be way to serious without him.
Lovin the OSW, does it still smell like Kool-aid yumminess?

Love those colors, girl. The variegation is great! Can't wait to see the final product. Oh, and showers are over-rated. The more you smell, the more people won't bother you and you can get in some more quality knitting time.

Look at you with your fancy swift! I have the same ball winder you have, but my swift is a little different, it's made out of an awkward combo of knees and feet.
Um, Alias, Season 4? I want to tell you SO.BAD. but just keep watching. When you are done watching, tell me what ya think about all that. Yeah.
YAY for Kool Aid yarn! So pretty!

Hee hee. I like your ball winder and swift! I thought the pants was your swift.
I have to start watching Alias. I must NETFLIX!

Love the colors for your OSW. I just finished my own longer sleeved version. Oh I wish I had enough yarn for them to truly be 3/4 sleeves!

Your OSW in your kool-aid yarn looks fab! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Gorgeous OSW so far Carrie!! And yes, I've actually done 2 Alias discs in a night.....Being here in Oz season 4 is currently airing, so I'm watching along with ya (tonight actually!!), although is is but one ep a week, and it's the season final tonight!! I'll be glued, probablynot even any knitting!!! Can't wait to find out the Vaughn thing, as long as he doesn't break my heart, but yep, there's always Marshall!!

I'm so proud of your yarn dyeing!!! It looks SO good. Smart idea on the sleeve situation.

The yarn looks so awesome!
I totally have a thing for Victor Garber. Can't help it. He's so dashing! And spy-dangerous. Mmmmm.
Posted by Em | November 9, 2005 10:38 PM
Your obesession with Alias is completely understandable. Not that I ever watched an entire season in a weekend or anything...
Posted by Leslie | November 9, 2005 9:37 PM
You can have Marshall...as long as I can have Michael Vaughn.
That yarn came out SO pretty. I love the colors. I have actually hijacked High Energy's ball winder and swift if you want to try a differetn system. It's on my kitchen table.

i *heart* marshall too... the moment in season 4 during the lockdown cemented it (the spork moment was beautimus... if not gross) but during the second season when he did his first operation... ah...
lovely osw - highly clever swift and winder. my swift looks like my feet, but my winder looks just like yours.

That's beautimous!

I can't believe you dyed that!! The colors and variegation are amazing. Verrry nice...
Posted by Julie | November 9, 2005 8:47 PM
Love the colors...and why haven't I made a OSW yet? Oh yes, because there is Christmas gifts that need to be knit and then there are about 8 things that are in progress right now...then Clapotis. I'm giving in and making one in the new year.
