Long Weekend

So I'm taking off Friday and Monday so I can go to a certain Sheep and Wool Festival up in NY. My non-knitting friends have taken to calling this festival many different names, such as "The Fish and Chips Festival" or "Visiting Chip and Will". Har. It's kind of hard to explain to the non-knitters why going to something called a sheep and wool festival is really, really fun, but I've tried. You've got yer alpacas -- they are DAMN cute. And also the yarn -- there's SO MUCH OF IT IN ONE PLACE. And so many colorways and fibers. And then there's all the knitbloggers that might be there ... but try explaining knitblog friends to a non-blogger. They immediately envision some sort of Dungeons and Dragons-type convention where extremely weird people get together and dance around yarn. (Hmmm -- that might not be too far off.)

But who cares what the non-knitters think? RHINE. BECK.

Since I promised I would post one, here's a picture of the socks I finished for The Pants:

One pair down.

I promise they are very similar, although that picture makes them look kinda different. I still need to block them because Jacob has the BIGGEST FEET ever and the toes are still a little tight. Remind me not to promise him socks on any kind of deadline any time soon. (P.S. Dear Jacob: in order to fund my Rhinebeck trip, these socks are your early (and only) birthday present. Love, Schmoo. ) (Just kidding.)

Like I mentioned before, I started on a bulky mini-cardi right after I finished the socks, didn't do a gauge swatch, and lived to regret it. Oops. I was a little distracted watching The Life Aquatic (which I hated SO. MUCH. ) and I seamed up a whole sleeve before realizing that the thing was way too small. So, I'll probably find some other stash yarn and start one for the trip.

I really stink at packing for weekend trips - I always overpack, but then have nothing to wear. I don't want to run into the same issue with the knitting, so I think I'm going to bring Clapotis, which is v. close to being done, a pair of socks that I haven't started yet, and said bulky mini-cardi that I haven't started yet. I have some starting to do tonight. And packing. And also I need to spend time with the schmoos. ACCCCKKKKKK.

Ahem.

To avert my attention from the travel anxiety (which is actually all based upon my fear of flying), I will post this picture of my brown hair. I've been meaning to for a while and I just keep forgetting.

(Dear Internets, I'm a brunette now. Love, Carrie.)

We were going for dark chocolate brown and it turned out as more of a caramel brown, but I'm going to hang with this color for a while and go darker in a few weeks. Just in case you were wondering about my hair color plans. On that note, I'll sign off... I'll probably see some of you this weekend...let's hope the rain slows down. At least long enough to buy some yarn.

I hear ya on two things:

1. Hating The Life Aquatic (And normally I love Wes Anderson movies) and

2. Overpacking yet still not having anything to wear. I did that this past weekend.

Sexy-bomb-ey hair, babe.

Gawd, I hated The Life Aquatic too, but all 3 of my kids loved it. Okay, so last night I was watching the Tony Bourdain show where he travels and eats food (my dream job if it included knitting). Anyway, he was in Vegas and there was an accordion convention and I started making fun of them to my hubby. He looked at me and said, "you go to a place called Stitches West and you are making fun of THIS?"

Your hair is ginger, woman. And I LOVE.
You did amazinglt well on the plane, btw, as I have no scrathes or bite marks and I look forward to flying the friendly skies with you once again.

You know what they say about men with big feet...........the wear big shoes!

I hated that movie too!! So awful compared to The Royal Tenenbaums, which I hearted muchly.

Yay! It was sooo good to meet you in person! If you're ever in the Boston area, you have a place to stay! And I'll work on taking you up on your offer too!

Still smiling from saturday =)

I love the sweater!!! And I think your hair looks great. Keep up the good work.

Carrie,

We (Darrel, Barbara and I) were enchanted meeting you and your friend (didn't get her name) on the train to Poughkeepsie. I hope you are having a great time in Rhine. Beck. and wish we didn't have to scoot back to 'the' city tomorrow -- a kiddie birthday party for a friend of our son. Ugh. We would SO rather have crashed the festival and basked in the wooliness of it all. SO MUCH YARN IN ONE PLACE!

Seriously, I'm laughing with, not at, you all. I spent a good portion of my childhood at fairs where candles were dipped, butter churned, and, above all, sheep were shorn, wool carded, spun, etc. so I'm really missing this festival now that I know it exists!

Don't believe what people tell you about New Yawkuhs. We're very friendly indeed. Especially with a beer in hand, fleeing the city ('the' city) on weekends! Next time you're in for the festival you should plan a bit more time to explore the joys of NYC. This time of the year is one of the best (aside from the biblical downpours... but didn't you enjoy the incredible clearing and beautiful afternoon today?).

Say hi to the Curmudgeon for us. And have a great time.

Bob

And you look just as amazing! I'm feeling ready for a hair color change myself. And actually I was considering dark brown (despite the bf begging for bright red, he's nutty). Have a great time girly!

Schmoo I miss you already stop Wilco=good stop I liked Life Aquatic stop Can we still be friends question over and out stop.

Next year you'll be able to drive about an hour north to see some alpacas. Yeah, because I now live that close to you and I now have a farm that I am now turning into an alpaca ranch. Yeah!

You're beautiful no matter what your hair color is and I hope you find true wool love at Rhinebeck.

My God you are a very beautiful woman. I know this seems strange and maybe it is but I found your site when I was researching inoax.com. I think you posted something on frecklegirl.com. If you are interested in having a 37 year old black?white male as a friend please contact me:-). I am smart funny adventurous and love life.....I think I must be crazy for doing this but life is built on taking chances...ciao

Yeah, the boys with the big feet are kind of a liability when it comes to sock knitting. My brother's feet are like two feet long. I should've thought of that BEFORE I started his socks.

Have a good trip.

You look great as a brunette. See you in Rhinebeck!

Cute 'do! I love that color!! Have fun at Rhinebeck - I'm jealous!

Have a fantastic time at Rhinebeck! What a fun new hair color!

Love the new hair color - I too changed my "experte" color for fall but I didn't go quite as far as you - just to "dark blond". Having never been to an S&W festival, I haven't a clue what I'm missing, but I'm still damn jealous. Haven't decided yet whether to drive to NC for the SAFF next weekend - it all depends on how much drama there is in my life over the next couple of days - don't need a hotel - will just stay with my sis.

I'm with ya on the flyin' - I hate that "no control", "I'm off the friggin' ground!" sensation.

I love the new hair color, even if it was a surprise to you! Too bad you didn't enjoy The Life Aquatic...but I hope you enjoy Rhinebeck!!

have fun in rhinebeck. say hi to susan!

Wow, another sheep and wool festival! Hope you have loads of fun!! Love the new haircolor. Caramelly is so good for fall. Hmm, so is chocolate!

Have lots of fun! Call me if you run into you know who. You have to go up and introduce yourself to her.

HAVE FUN! TAKE LOTS OF PICS!

I just went red! I love the color! very very chic!

I am so excited that we got to talk on the phone like real-live people, not just in blog comments! Like your hair! Yay new hairs for rhinebeck. Did I mention I'm excited to meet everyone in person?

Yay!

My husband calls sheep and wool festivals Poop and Wool, because that's what comes from sheep? Y'know?

Oy, he's a silly one, see you at Rhinebeck!

You hair looks so beautiful! I think the brunette thing is good on you.

Because we've been friends for a long time I will let your little comment slide about a movie I *loved* SO MUCH, The Life Aquatic.

I was thinking about dressing up as the Portugese David Bowie acoustic guitar guy for Halloween...

YOUR HAIR IS GORGEOUS!

I loooove that color on you- super flattering!

And did I mention? I can see it myself TOMORROW!!!

I am not excited or anything. ahem.

I hear ya about the flying anxiety- just say a prayer and hold AM's hand...

Some day I swear I'm going to make one of the sheep/wool festivals. Buy some wool for me!

Happy travels! I'm so jealous! I'm going to SAFF next weekend, but it's just not the same...

Hug a sheepie for me!

Love the brown hair! I went brown after March and haven't regretted one bit.

Have a great time in Rhinebeck.

(*wishing I lived on the east coast*)

You always look too damn cute in your pictures. I love the new hair color. Have some fun in NY for me and don't forget your rubbers. Boots that is...

Tanya
