Rollin'
Is it seriously September? I can't believe how fast the summer has flown by. It's starting to get a little breezy and a little cooler around here...yepyepyep. Sweater weather, here we come (well, in like two months). I know I will be cursing the cold once winter hits, but right now I'm ready for the chilliness.
I've been knitting away on my Cutaway. Back piece is done, front left is done, and I'm about halfway through the front right. It's nice and easy stockinette with some shaping thrown in. I think the finishing is going to be the challenge with this pattern, but I'm looking forward to it. The front left piece came to brunch with me and Jacob on Sunday:

Jacob had his camera.
Here's The Pants at brunch:

I took this with his camera. Isn't he dashing?
It was such a nice long weekend. On Saturday, we went to the Cobbham Festival, which was a little festival in AM's neighborhood. They had bands playing on front porches, food, ice cream, and lots of games for the kids. There was also a trapeze demonstration and both of my trapeze teachers performed on a trapeze rigged up from a tree branch. It was v. cool:

This is one of my trapeze teachers.
Click for a closer view.
In addition to trapeze artists and belly dancers, there were superheroes:

They stopped saving the world briefly so we could take a picture.
and, the coolest dude in town: Rolin Joel.
Rolin Joel (that's his spelling, not mine.) rides around town on a bicycle that has speakers and a disco ball. His bike plays funk music. But he also is a bad-ass roller skater. Rolin Joel was performing at CobbFest, and we got some pics:

He didn't fall. Not once.
But he did do several splits.

The shirt.
Can you read what it says?
If the pictures enticed you, click here to download a little video of Rolin Joel that I took with my camera. There's no sound, and the quality kinda sucks, but just so you know, he was skating to Rapper's Delight. Hell yeah.
So, it was quite a weekend. I didn't even tell you about bowling, or the Labor Day fireworks that we shot off in our field, but I'm too tired to keep writing. And I gotta save those stories for another post. The good times just keep rolling. or rolin. Can you dig it?

Rolin Joe reminds me of Disco Stu from Simpsons. "Disco Stu don't advertise."
Sorry to hear about your break-in. I hope all their sweaters unravel.

man, Trapeze!!? That's so rad. Congrats on finding a hobby that's even weirder than knitting!

The video clip reminded me of something out of The Wonder Years :) Very cool, though!

Hope I'm doing this right, but you're tagged! The questions are on my blog.......

Rolin' Joel is hysterical, and Mr. Pants is lookin' hot. I think you should ask Mr. Pants to couples skate.

That is a hot schmoo. Or, rolin.'

Carrie,
Hell yeah from Ohio. The weather is great, and the knitting better. I am a 40-ahem mother of three children, one Westie, and a husband. I am presently a graduate student (Special Ed.) at the University of Toledo and a fanatical knitter. I love the blog and if anyone is ever in Northwest Ohio, check out our fabulous local knitting store just over the border into Michigan - Vintage Knits. They are up and running on the "www", and it is a wonderful oasis.
Take care,
Andrea L.

Okay, seriously - the trapeze picture is very cool, but um, it looks like it would hurt her coochy-coo. I'm just sayin'...
BTW, my boyfriend Mike is often called Mr. Pants (or some variation of Pants) at our house. ;)

looks like such fun - we have "Celebrate Munford" coming up but I'm sure it's much more small town than your fest. BTW - hahaha - when I first glanced at that smokin' picture of the Pants, I THOUGHT HE HAD A CIRCULAR NEEDLE in his hand - NOT - just his really cool glasses. Robin

Seriously, Rolin Joel needs to NOT wear WHITE socks with that disco outfit. I mean...

Holy crap that video is hilarious. And what's with that shirt?! That's quite a title he's got. Fitting it all on his business cards must be a bitch.
Great pic of the Pants!

That video clip made my day!

jeez, trapeze!?!?!!!
that is so awesome! makes me want to take a trapeze class just looking at that. i would have to get over my fear of heights, though.
we had to climb ropes in gym class and i got to maybe 3/4 of the way up when i did the stupidest thing you could do from 15 feet in the air: i looked down. i freaked, my palms got sweaty, and i slipped down the rope about six feet before i let go. ouch! luckily i wasn't hurt, but i'm reluctant to do anything 4 feet above ground without appropriate tie-backs and safety harnesses. errr...yeah. maybe i won't take a trapeze class. :(

Rolin Joe was a highlight! Great belt he's wearing.

Now I'm even sicker I missed out on this weekend. Thanks for sharing so I could experience vicariously. I am so glad to be back in a town with characters like Rolin Joel, where I fit in.

Well, he's no Naked Cowboy, but I guess Rolin Joel is OK.
Awesome pics! I wholeheartedly agree with everything everyone else has said. (Comment cop out!)

Don't you just love the first few hints at Fall? Like when there is finally a chill in the air at night?
Not that I know anything about that here in SF right now...but I am remembering what it was like in So Cal around this time.
Rolin' Joe kicks ass.

Looks like good fun! And that Rolin Joe guy. Sweet!

Ok, that trapeze girl looks like she should seriously be in pain. Ouch! What a fun festival!

Ah, Rolin' Joel. Our dear obsessed with The Million Dollar Man, disco bikin', talk your head off pal. He's AWESOME! I love that you think those rich people on that street and I are in the same neighborhood.
Cutaway is practically finished! Yay!

Jacob looks fab in that picture. Rolin Joe... now that is a kick ass guy, he does splits! How cool.
Posted by Kate | September 7, 2005 8:37 AM
I love that his shirt says "The King Superstar."
You and AM are so damn photogenic. Batman is pretty photogenic too, I think it's his abs though. Him and Spidey look so serious.
"The Pants"....love that. Such a good pic of him!

love this post! Rappers Delight! love it!
I agree...frame that pic of The Pants! Very handsome!

Yay Rolin Joe. I can't believe he spelled rollin' wrong. Come on now. Splurge for another shirt, Joe. Otherwise, he is too cool and I wish that could be my job...
That's an awesome picture of Jacob!

So down home - seriously - I NEED a porch! Roller Disco Rolin Joe ROCKS!

Oh man, R.J. is a hoot. If he were a character in a book, you'd call him over the top.
I love it.
I can't help but imgine what happens when some poor soul gets set up on a blind date with him. Does he get fly funky fresh on the walk home?
Posted by Marnie | September 7, 2005 7:30 AM
What a great post! I can't believe you actually got a shot of Rolin Joe doing the splits. Yikes. Is that his full time job? Some people have all the luck.

Nice portrait of your man! He must be proud of your beautiful shot.
The back of Rolin Joe's shirt cracks me up. It's like some goofy English I'd take a picture of in Japan, except it's in the US. Classic.
And yay for sweater weather! I have been feeling it in my bones lately too, although it's still humid and in the 90s around here. The cool weather is coming any day now!

I can dig it. ;)
That is such a gorgeous picture of Jacob! Totally frame-worthy!
Rolin Joe is quite a guy... I love the belt the best myself. That, and the way the girl on the bike is looking at him like, "WTF?"
