Shiny.
I'm taking a break from the hottest knit in the world (that would be Clapotis in Brooks Farm Harmony) to knit something short and sweet for someone I love. There's something quite refreshing about a quick and easy knit, and I need to be refreshed. The heat is making me grumpy.
It's a little scarf out of some shiny ribbony ladder yarn:

Isn't it fancy?
I found an easy free pattern over at Chicknits (clicky click for pattern ) and it's perfect for what I want -- something short and swingy and simple. I also purchased Bonne Marie's new pattern, Cutaway, while I was over there - how cute is this?!?!. This sweater looks like the perfect fall addition to my wardrobe. Now, to find the yarn in my stash...can it be done?
This weekend, I got have coffee with my old friend Taylor. He's about to move to Boston for grad school but luckily found some time to catch up with me in Athens. Here he is showing off the Shiny Scarf:

Fabulous, Taylor.
Clearly, Taylor should wear the Shiny Scarf to Boston and wow all his new friends with his fashion sense. BUT WAIT! It's not for him.
Here's a picture of me working on said Shiny Scarf:

Yep, I'm wearing the camisole again.
So I kinda wear that Glampyre cami all the time. But I LIKE it! And it fits well! And I'm vain and proud of my knitting and I want to show it off. SO THERE. I'm thinking maybe I should knit another one so this one gets some rest every now and then.
In other happy do-it-yourself news, all the vegetables we had for dinner last night were from our garden (My part in helping with the garden mainly consists of holding the box when Jacob gathers the veggies, and eating.) . And they were GOOD.

Yummy.
Um, I knew that homegrown tomatoes were good, but freshly picked corn is so awesome. OHMYGOODNESS. How fun is that?
Well, I'm off to knit and sit very still so I won't get hot. I don't think there will be any running for me today. After an encouraging pep talk from HEJ on Friday, I went home and ran two miles and it felt really good. Now I just have to stick to my schedule for this week...Thanks for all the running well-wishes, by the way. I'm gonna need them!!

I love that yarn! So pretty, I seem to keep buying all of this gorgeous yarn I see eveywhere, and then I lack the time to ever do anything with it. I must sit down and knit. Must knit. Must knit...

Not only do I also love fresh veggies, but that cutaway pattern is so the first thing I'm going to make when the weather starts cooling down a bit! Coincidence? I'm not so sure...

Fabulous neck jewelry! Everybody needs a fancy scarf. It's like a rule.

I busted out a quick scarf last week myself just for the sake of gratification. You need a little something like that on occasion to make you feel like you are actually getting somewhere, you know?

Yum, fresh home garden veggies - can't beat them! I too love, love, love your cami, especially that gorgeous turquoise color! Fabulous!
I bought some of those foil stars to put on my calendar every time I work out. It's awesome to count them up and give yourself a treat (yarn!!) when you reach a training goal! Keep at it! The first 2 weeks are hard but you can do it!

NOW I have to make that damn glampyre bobbly cutie cute top. You must stop controlling me at all times. I. Will. Resist.
Way to run 3 miles all by yourself!!!!

I'm knitting a scarf like that too! I love the ruffle part (they had a sample at the store where I bought the yarn). It makes the whole scarf so swingy.
You are sooo lucky to grow corn in your own garden. :-)

Love that scarf - I have some UT orange ribbon yarn I was looking for something to do with - FOUND IT! The fresh veggies look yummy. I have 4 tomatoe plants this year but it's been so darn hot I didn't go out and check them this weekend - brought a whole basket full I picked last night that are too ripe to last for just me and sweetie so I'm sharing with the students - they are VERY happy!
Now I just gotta start runnin' rob

You look adorable in that cami, and the color is great on you, so why not wear it all the time? Plus, it's so damn hot right now and the cami looks nice and cool.
Yay for shiny scarves and fresh veggies. Nothing tastes as good as fresh home grown veggies.

I LOVE corn. Especially the farm fresh type. The scarf looks great. There's always room for easy scarves :)

Mmm . . . fresh vegetables. You're making me drool all over my keyboard, here! We have a farm right up the road that grows its own corn and it's marvelous--which is good, because I am so not a gardener! The scarf looks lovely, and I hear you about the Brooks Farm being hot. I was smart and worked on my B.F. shawl last winter/spring when it felt GOOD having that much warmth in my lap!

The best meal I ever had was on a farm. Milk from the cows, meat from the neighboring farm, corn picked by me, all veggies from the garden. Fresh. Fresh. Fresh. And amazingly delicious with very little seasoning.

Love the shiny chic scarf...very posh!

Running and vegetables?! I'm so proud of you! Yay! You are one healthy gal. And glad you got to hang with Taylor too.

Seeing you wear that camisole everywhere really makes me want to make one. I want a piece that's THAT wearable!
Posted by Maya | August 23, 2005 8:46 AM
I have always wanted to home-grow some corn but every time I've tried, something always eats the plants before they get to my knees. Go you!
Posted by Carrie | August 23, 2005 8:11 AM
Yep, it's official. I gotta knit up that camisole. I just gotta do it. It looks so darn cute on you. And to further "copy" you, I am going to use some Cotton Fleece as well. Gotta finish up the back of my cardi first though (hmm, maybe not).

That cami is very cute, and it looks good on you--glad you are getting good wear out of it!
YUMMY veggies! We have been eating loads of fresh veggies at our casa too. So good!
Take care ;)

Jealous of the running - I SO need to be doing that! We're having corn for dinner tonight too! Fresh-picked (up) from the supermarket.
Posted by Cara | August 22, 2005 10:00 PM
Carrie...so when are you moving on your very own farm to raise all your cattle & chickens? No really...homegrown is the best! Grilling homegrown is even better! :-)

your level of participation in the garden sounds just like mine! just this evening i stood there holding the bowl while kevin picked the tomatos.
that scarf is purty!!

Hey, I know that guy! Glad y'all got to have some conversation time. I'm SO JEALOUS of all the Athens time Taylor's been gettin lately.

Go you! Your shiny scarf is so airy and pretty. And you grew your own corn? That amazes me to no end. And I hail from a state that says, "there's more than corn in Indiana..." ANd kick bootay with the running. You're a much better woman than I could ever be.
Posted by Giao | August 22, 2005 8:49 PM
Mmm - home grown corn? That's so cool! That cami looks cute on you, you should wear it all the time. :)
Posted by biglug | August 22, 2005 8:36 PM
Mmmmm, home grown corn. You must have had a large space to grow corn. Love that cami but I'm afraid that I might be too boobilicious for it :)
You go girl with your running goals. If anyone can do it, you can!

Too funny. I started a very similar scarf last night, using the same yarn (little bluish though)! I was having bad knitting mojo and needed something that was wasy but didn't look it. Fun!
