Lucky.
I was going to complain for a long time about the cold I've recently gotten, but then I looked at the hurricane pictures and felt foolish for whining. I can't believe how awful the damage is. My thoughts and prayers are going out to all the people affected by the hurricane and the tornadoes. I'm always afraid of storms, but this is unbelievable.
I found a new use for my new One Skein Wonder. I have this shirt that I like to wear, but somehow I got a big black grease stain all across the left sleeve, so it looks kinda weird when I wear to work. Unless ... I cover the sleeve with my OSW:

No grease stain over here.
I'm also sporting my new glasses in that picture, and some really dark roots. (the roots will be fixed tonight: Hooray for L'oreal Couleur Experte.) I took this picture downtown during my lunch break. I hung out on that bench for a while taking pictures of myself in my shrug -- I got a few weird looks. Then, like the organized gal I am, I LEFT MY KEYS ON THE BENCH and walked all the way back to my office. Score! It took me a few minutes to realize my keys weren't with me and I called the glasses place and Starbucks before remembering my bench time. Luckily, my friend Jason was downtown and he grabbed them for me. Crisis averted.
Before my brain fart, I also took a picture of my newest knit in progess:

It's the Cutaway sweater.
Cutaway is from Chicknits. I'm still not 100% sure that I'll wear the sweater, but I'm testing it out. Once it gets cold around here, I can never have enough cardigans to throw on over my work clothes. I knitted this while reading a young adult novel that's coming out next year (it's a new author and I'm designing her website! how cool is that?) and it was perfect for knitting and reading. That sounds like my way to spend Labor Day weekend - knitting and reading. And hanging out with the schmoos and My Schmoo. Or The Pants, as I've taken to calling him lately. Har.
In other exciting news, I took my first trapeze class last night. I figured trapeze would be a good way to get some conditioning in while I'm training for the half marathon, and also it would be REALLY FUN. I was right on both points. Trapeze is HARD. I got really dizzy, and my hands got sore, and muscles that I may have never used are hurting today. But I also got to swing around. A lot. And pretend I was flying. I think I'll get better ... I hope so. Pam, Leslie, Courtney and Anne Marie, are all in the class too. And of course the fabulous Mary Jessica inspired us to take trapeze to begin with because she performs and is fantastic.
I'm struggling a little, because I didn't pick everything up super fast, but MJ insists that she was a slow learner too. I just don't normally do things that I'm not good at immediately. (I know that's silly, but that's the way I am.) However, I can't resist the trapeze, so I'm going to stay in the class and keep trying. And then we can start a circus where Courtney rides her unicycle, Dixie Chick Jenny walks on stilts, and the rest of us use fabrics and trapezes to knit an enormous quilt with our flying bodies. It's a plan. (For the side show, I'll stick my whole fist in my mouth -- but no photos allowed.)

Holy crap with the trapeze and the circus. You Athens girls are so freaking cool! Love, love, love the new glasses. Kind of a scary thing, getting new glasses, eh? I mean.... there they are, on YOUR FACE! Yours are adorable. Looking forward to seeing the sweater-in-progress...

Love the glasses - I REEeeally need to get to the eye doctors and get me sum new ones! The trapeze sounds mahvalous - maybe the Pants can become a lion tamer!!

Trapeze sounds like so much fun! I'm pretty sure I couldn't do it, but how cool. You need to get one of the girls to take some pics for us :)

Ugh, I hate that sinking feeling when you realize something crucial was left behind - glad you got your keys back! The shrug is so cute and the glasses stylin'!

Trapeze class?! I had no idea there was such a thing... Oh my. I really need to look into that.

There's a place out here (boston) that does trapeze work too! And I'm just starting to run, I'm really impressed by your drive to do the half marathon, I'll get there someday!

Oooh your glasses and OSW are so cute! Trapeze sounds like so much fun. I do the same thing and don't usually follow through on stuff that I'm not good at right away. But it looks like you're sticking to this one! :)

Love the glasses! You look hot in those!
Whatcha putting that pretty sweater on that gum covered concrete floor? Hey are you going to run away and join the circus? or Cirque du Soleil (hotter guys ya know)?

Hey, I took trapeze when I lived in Athens! (in those pre-Canopy days...) And I totally bailed after two classes because I wasn't "good" at it yet, so I understand your angst, but stick with it. If only for the uncommon pride you'll feel the next time you're asked to list your hobbies.

Yeah, you'll definitely have to share some trapeze photos. If you get really good, maybe you can even run away and join the circus! ;)

You're lookin' super cool in your new glasses and OSW! Just tell everyone you were so distracted by your own fabulousness and that's why you forgot your keys. (Keys, who needs keys? I am THE Carrioke... doors just open for me, dahling!)

ha! i LOVE trapeze. it's the most fun you can have while exercising :) i did it while in mexico in high school. i had so much fun that i haven't forgotten it one bit. the new glasses are super cute, too! nice choice.

Hey, yo. I love the glasses and the OSW super usefulness. I have the kind of luck that stains always appear in the middle of the boobage area of my tops, and then I am SOL.
It's funny you mentioned not liking to do stuff you're not good at right away. I am the same way. I finally decided last year to try something I suk at, swimming, and I took lessons for a few months. I am still slow, but at least I can do it and not freak out now.
Glad to hear your summer is going so well AND you got your keys back! Lucky girl!!

Glasses sho' cute!!!!! What brand are they, and where did you get them???
And I love how your OSW lets you wear a favorite shirt again. Hooray!

Those glasses are so fantastic-looking on you. So lovely! And for Pete's (or Petey's?) sake, keep up the trapeze. I was being totally honest when I was telling you that it takes time to understand how to get your body to do stuff! I mean, think about it this way: trapeze is not natural! I mean, it's not an already intuitive thing for our bodies, y'know? So just be patient with yourself. That's easier said than done - I know I was very hard on myself in the beginning, more than necessary. Anyway, I'm totally ready to hear any trapeze complaints (or moments of pure joy). I'm proud of you! xoxo

Wow, I love your glasses! You look both stylish and intellectual. And I can't believe that you have that much finished on your cutaway sweater. I hope you and The Pants are feeling better.

Ahhh...we're cutaway-ing together! I love your new glasses and I'm sorry about the cold. The Hurricane is putting lots of things into perspective for folks around here since Houston has become a primary refugee camp.

Ohhhhh trapeze! That sounds so fun. I think I would probably break something if I tried it though.
I love your new glasses, you are such a cutie! And genius stain-hising idea. I just love multi-task knitting.

Cool! Love the new glasses, the trapeze sounds amazing...
Posted by heather | September 1, 2005 9:03 AM
Too cool, I can't even imagine there being a trapeze plase around here.
Posted by kate | September 1, 2005 8:12 AM
Love the new glasses. I am in the process of getting some new ones right now too. I tried on some just like those and the flamboyant guy who was helping me told me that I shouldn't get them because they "hid my cheekbones". Hee hee. The ones I chose are cute too though. Shoot.I need to go pick those babies up.
Trapeze sounds like sooo much fun.
Starbucks.
Hee hee.

Trapeze?!?! Oh my gosh, I am so jealous right now! That sounds like SO.MUCH.FUN!
I love how you are always thinking about knitted items to wear to work. I need to think more like that instead of just shit that looks cute on the model in the picture.
Can't wait to see the cutaway cardi...

You will totally get better at trapeze. Also, it looks so pretty in Athens in that picture. So jealous of eating lunch downtown.
