real life
it's HOT. so, so hot in Athens. My naturally oily hair and skin become greasy pools of grossness in this heat. Sorry if that was too much information.
Good thing there are so many cute summer things to knit, because the thought of knitting with wool right now makes me want to cry. Unless, of course, it's yummy merino wool from KnitPicks:

So. Soft.
(do you like our array of vacuums in the background?)
Jacob has never had a pair of handknit socks, so I'm trying to prepare for the goodness and wonder of the knitted socks. I'm not sure he's totally convinced, although when I jokingly (sort of) say I'm going to keep them, he says NO. He loves the colors though, which is huge. I got me a picky one. Now I just have to finish them...
I also finished a good summery knit: a cotton minisweater (pattern here)!

Can't you picture it with a little sundress?
This picture is a little strange because I'm still wearing my gym clothes and I had to use the self timer. Hee. But I used the leftover gray yarn from Jacob's Super Secret Sweater (click and scroll down to see it in the gallery) and it turned out great. Inspired by Stef, I decided to do an i-cord at the ends instead of using a button closure, and I'm so glad I did. It's just a *little* bit baggy because I kind of overestimated *ahem* how big my chest is. Wishful thinking, ha ha. I've already worn it to work once! My wearing of the knits is becoming more frequent -- I think it might be related to my improved finishing abilities. And my new habit: the actual weaving in of ends.
Well, it's gotta be short and sweet tonight. My friend Leslie is leaving for NY tomorrow so I have to go celebrate! But before I go, this little schmoo would like to say thank you to a little gnome for remembering her and Chili-schmoo in the mail...

Bella says: Thanks, Gnome G! That Casey's a lucky dog. Woof.
see ya later this week!

At the risk of duplicating all the comments above, I just love your minisweater! I just might have to make one now!

Love the mini-sweater! Matches the socks, so you'll have to keep them ;-)

The mini-sweater looks great! I love the color of the socks.
You sure are a speedy knitter.

Cute top and the socks are a nice camouflage color-it's not been TOO hot here in Atlanta area yet! But I know it's coming!
Have a great weekend!

Ohh I realy like that boob holder....I've seen some really cool ones recently - they seem pretty quick to make as well? Plus your doggie is very sweet.

That mini sweater is super cute! Maybe something to get me back into the knitting swing?! And Jacob's socks ~ very cool.
LOVE the schmoo pic. Meltingly ADORABLE!!!!

Carrie...love your mini sweater! It looks great. I would do the I cord also. It's perfect!!!

Carrie, I just ADORE your blog. Thank you so much for your fun posts. I love your boobholder. I just can't seem to figure out that darned pattern (the increases are killing me). But I love your ties instead of buttons. I might have to give it a whirl.

Thanks for patching my jeans so I don't embarass myself in NY! Perhaps I'll see you in Bostson.!!

Boobieholder with icord ties is WAAY cute!!! :) And I agree, it doesn't look baggy to me EITHER!
Posted by Lara | May 18, 2005 1:18 AM
Love the i-cord. Didn't even think of that...I used ribbon to tie mine off recently since the button just wasn't enough.

Just a word of warning about Jacob's socks--you may not want to let him wear them with shoes. one of the women here in vermillion just made a pair with that yarn, wore them three times, and the heel blew out, and the toe was about to. Just a word of caution! (sorry about the lack of capitals, btw...the shift key is sticking on me!)

What a great tweek of the boobholder! And a very functional color to boot. I may seriously need to copy it. maybe i missed it, but what yarn did you use?
Posted by carrie m | May 17, 2005 4:37 PM
LOVE the mini sweater! I think the icord ties add a little something... it's feminine without being frumpy!
Your sock color is great! very subdued. My man says he's not interested in knitted items... you've inspired me to knit some socks for him, though... in my attemtp to turn him over to the knit-side.

Ok - I really like the mini-sweater with the i-cord ties...now I might want one!
Heh - if you're like me, it'll fit better for week every month, lol...

Your little sweater will look great with all sorts of things. And it is SO NOT HOT yet. You are going to be in big trouble this summer when it's five hundred degrees and 800 percent humidity, girlie!

There's nothing like Georgia in the summer. It's getting hot here in Chapel Hill, but I'm expecting things to be even worse when I head home to Atlanta. Plus, my folks refuse to turn on the AC until it hits the mid-90s. Try knitting ANYthing, even cotton, when your hands are sweating buckets.

That mini sweater is so cute. I totally know what I am going to do with my sitting in the stash cotton yarn!
That camo color looks just like the one dh picked for his sox. And I will be knitting them, not him, as I don't think he is patient enough *yet*.

The minisweater turned out great. You are right, it will look perfect with a sundress. Might have to put this on my must-knit list. ;) Oscar sends a friendly woof to Chili and Bella!

super cute minisweater! i am debating whether to make that one or the fiery bolero...hmmm...

Don't ya just love picky men. Well of course we love them, but oy they can be annoying. My husband is very picky about what I knit for him, it has to be the right color, pattern, etc. But at least he gives input and enjoys what I make then.
Very cute pooch by the way.

LOVE the mini-sweater. It is inspiring...perhaps once I graduate to making grown-up clothes, I will try one.
The vaccuums are pretty cool too! ;)
ARGHHHH...I hate the southern heat. The mugginess, the sweatiness, the all-around sticky icky feeling. Heat rash is NOT sexy. Thank goodness for AC.
How cute is Bella?? Completely precious.

V. cute mini-sweater! Did you just use Stef's boob holder pattern?
Posted by Chrissie | May 17, 2005 9:39 AM
That cotton mini-sweater is super cute. I just adore it! What yarn did you use? And did you match to the original gauge or make adjustments for what you had? The minisweater is next on my list, and cotton sounds like a good thing to try. And as cute as your mini-sweater is, your pooch is even cuter!
Posted by Megann | May 17, 2005 8:55 AM
Wow! First I love the sock especially, becuz I am a sockie girl now too!
Cotton Mini-sweater is adorable. I like it (ahem) better with the ties...I'm a tie kinda gal. Very cute...very summery.
Bella, you schmooooooo! x/o

I've been hearing good things about the Knit Picks sock yarn. I definitely will have to scoop some up.
You have convinced me that I must make the boob holder now. I've been eyeing it for some time now. But you and Vibegirrl have sent me over that edge.
Arg, did I just promise that I was going to finish the Must Have Cardi before I started on another project!
Such an adorable Bella!

the cotton mini sweater rocks! i love it! i want one!

I like your blog! I am a neophyte blogger myself, but drop by anytime! The mini sweater is adorable. Where did the pattern come from?
Posted by Jill | May 17, 2005 7:43 AM
Very cute schmoo! Will your schmoos do anything for treats? OK, I have to go to work...the place that hates me. =(

Hi Bella and Chili! Odile says hi!
Posted by Valerie | May 17, 2005 12:29 AM
I totally feel you on the heat...I got completely overheated working on our front yard this weekend, whatta wimp! My body just isn't adjusting yet.
Bella is a precious schmoo!
Posted by sarah b. | May 16, 2005 11:19 PM
Awww, Bella is so cute! Is she a Cairn? My Parker-Dog, the sweetest schmoo you'll ever meet, looks like her in the face.
Posted by Stacy | May 16, 2005 11:16 PM
summer is the only time my skin isn't dry! We're still in the kind of springy weather here. The minisweater is awesome. I think you should continue to wear it with the gym clothes. Oh, and holy vaccuums batman!
Posted by BigLug | May 16, 2005 11:08 PM
That's a cute picture - especially for a self-timer! I love your smile.
Dan would overheat if I made him wool socks (picture a radiator with steam coming out of it, only that would be his head). Maybe cotton. Maybe.
And the weaving of ends... what a pleasant habit to adopt! Way to go!
Posted by Sarah W. | May 16, 2005 11:06 PM
I so feel ya, I'm the queen of greasy hair/face. And I also somehow suffer from the fun humidity frizzies. Ugh! You are C-U-T-E in the minisweater. Ah, the schmoo :)
Posted by Vicki | May 16, 2005 11:04 PM
Ugh. My greasy face is a mess and it's not even hot here. At least you have a good excuse.
The sweater looks super cute - not too big at all. I've GOT to knit me a pair of socks. One of these days.
Posted by Cara | May 16, 2005 10:43 PM
Your mini-sweater looks fantastic! Doesn't look baggy in the picture. Looks sweet. :)
Posted by Karma | May 16, 2005 10:35 PM
Casey is pretty picky too... I had to try for years to get him to wear any color other than black, green, or gray!
That mini sweater is adorable! A very versatile color too...
Bella! I wanna scritch his ears!
