Maryland Sleep is Cool
Things I learned on my trip to Maryland:
1. Anne Marie and High Energy Jenny are excellent travel companions, and they will have me laughing almost the entire trip. Except for when I'm sleeping in the car. And even then, I'm laughing on the inside.

That's Stacy in the back with HEJ. Aren't they cute?
2. My dog, Bella, is clearly part sheep. She's got the long legs and the funny walk, and I found some with similar coloring! Maybe the sheep are part Bella. Check out this one for evidence.

Sheepy schmoo.
3. Even if you're getting really bad service, dinner can still be fun, in the right company.

And also, Buffalo Chicken Salad makes a girl happy after a long day of yarning around.
4. Self portraits, even at the beginning of the drinking, will turn out horribly. Your companion in the photo will of course look great.

damn you, Vibegrrl!
5. When your imaginary online friends meet you in person, they will realize that you only put the absolute BEST pictures of yourself online. Your elaborate editing process will be revealed when they will start using their own cameras and see how the CAMERA ACTUALLY HATES YOU. Click to see how much the camera hates me. Further evidence can be found in Vibegrrl's Maryland Sheep and Wool photo album...

So, we went to this Korean karaoke bar called 1.7th Generation. Yes, that's what it's called. No, I have no idea what it means. The karaoke was a little different than what I'm used to...there's a wireless microphone, and you give the bartender your song number, and then someone passes you the microphone. And then all of sudden, your song comes up on these huge screens that were playing random, extremely violent movies. And your lyrics pop up OVER the movie. I think the idea is to sit at your table and sing, but clearly we weren't having any of that.
We had to get up! Woo-hoo!

Work it Sarah!

Jenny has a quiet moment after bustin' out Lovefool.
I am proud to say that we totally started the karaoke up, and then all the other people in the bar started singing, perhaps to drown out our hooting and hollering. Of course Tiny Frecklegirl got out of control:

Party. Animal.
And then Lara and Snargle Sarah lost control...

she got friendly, down in the s-a-a-and...
and by the end of the evening, we were all exhausted. Click to see the exhaustion (except for Tiny FG, who's standing strong in the middle of the table...how does she do it?)
oh, my. It was just so much fun. I did get a little bit of yarn, for those who asked, but my current financial situation does not lend itself to many -- er, any extravagant yarn purchases. There was one brief lapse of sanity when me and the Sarahs were frantically digging through a 50percent off bin, and I came up for air with like 10 skeins of some cottton in my arms, and a crazed look in my eye, and thank GOD I took a deep breath and put it all back. And backed away. Yarn isn't worth the rent money, yo. :)
But, the trip was worth every last dime spent. I confess: I was there for the people. I was there to spend time with my dear friends High Energy Jenny and Anne Marie, and to reunite with some old friends, and to make some new friends who I really think I'll stay in touch with. This whole blogging thing is pretty crazy sometimes, and sometimes it can cause drama. But having a knitblog has introduced me to fantastic women who live hundreds and hundreds of miles away, and how else would I EVER meet them? I wouldn't trade that for all the Brooks Farm mohair blend yarn in the world. **
**Um, I mean, actually I probably WOULD trade it for the Brooks Farm mohair. But you get my point.

Between you and Lara's posts involving MS&W, you've got me wishing I lived a bit closer to justify going :) There was no way i could have swung that trip. Maybe next year. Oh, and all the FG pictures are hialrious :)

"...the camera hates me"
That's not true, the camera loves you plenty! One stitch short Sarah has a photo up of all of you over the breakfast table where everyone looks fabulous.
I can't believe how *huge* the Maryland Wool festival is. Definetly worth investigating flight tickets for next year.

Very cute pics, Carrie... looks like you all had a great time! I don't know if I mentioned it before, but my puppy's name is Bella too :)

You ALWAYS look cute in your pictures! Is it bad that I covet your hair? And how the hell did the three of you get all the stuff you bought home in one car? I admire your restraint and hear ya on the whole yarn vs. rent dilemma.
Looks like you ladies had an awesome time!

You rocked the house, Carrieoke!!!! It was you who got the Korean Karaoke started, I'll never forget.
Travelling with you two was the absolute best. Thanks for being such a great buddy. 10-4.

Wish I was there with you guys! Looks like you had a ton of fun. Even tiny Frecklegirl had a blast!
I admire your restraint against the shopping, I wouldn't have been as strong!

Oh, that's it, next year I'm going to Maryland. After reading about how practically everyone I have ever corresponded with online hung out together or at least snapped a picture together at MDSW, I have to go myself.

It's nice to find good travel buddies. With good travel buddies the worst trip is still great, and the best trip is unbelievable.

What a great post! I love all the pictures :)
You are the best travel buddy ever. EVER! I can't wait to go on another trip with you. Even the 24 total hours we spend in the car were fun times :)
I forgot that mini-Frecklegirl got so drunk at the karaoke bar. She is a bad influence. Perhaps we should have an intervention.
And you were so well behaved with the yarn (not)buying! I don't know when I'll be able to knit up all the stuff I bought.
Oh yeah, and don't forget that I have a ton of picture that don't make you look so much beautiful...I am keeping them to send to your kids on day.

Hey Carrie!
An all-girls trip! WAY TO GO! Looks like you had lots of fun & as for being tired-all that walking and yarn shopping probably exhausted you!

You're complaining about other people's pictures of me?!? Did you SEE the picture you posted of me? ;-)
I'm totally with you on the meeting people thing. The blog thing is SO great for finding friends you'd never in a million years meet otherwise.
Hope to meet you again soon!

I think our whole group needs to consider making plans to go to Rhinebeck. It's a ways away--plenty of time to save! :)

Oh, yeah, the camera TOTALLY hates me. I am totally not friends with candid pics. I have to pose, or I look way scary.

OMG! These pics are hilarious! hehe You guys are the cutest.
I swear, big me can hold her liquor better than that. ;)

Ah yes, the photo editing... there's nothing like seeing a few pictures of yourself on different blogs that you have no editorial control over to realize just how unfriendly the camera can be to you. Unlike Lara, though, I do not have a particular prejudice against that karaoke picture - I think I was channeling some John Travolta at that moment. Now, the other pictures I've seen of me elsewhere... those are bad. Very bad.
Yay for fun road trips and yay for Sheep & Wool! I can't wait for next year!

I don't think I've ever posted before but I love your blog and now I'm just green with envy. You guys had SO much fun. I think it's time for me to have some retail therapy. I think you look cute as a button in all the pics too.

You Totally have the same big grin in your pictures as you do in person, it's quite lovely.
Just because yarn isn't worth the rent money doesn't mean that some of us didn't dip into it, ha. I laugh now but let's see how I am June 1st...
Posted by Jenna Pink Monkey | May 11, 2005 4:06 PM
Um, so like I SO ADMIRE YOUR RESTRAINT. I CLEARLY, have none. Thus, I can't afford yarn again for at LEAST 6 months.
I DO look kinda cute in that picture of us, but I think you TOTALLY got your revenge with that pic of me and Sarah! NICE! (oh lord!)
I'll um, WORK on my editing process ;)
Posted by Lara | May 11, 2005 3:46 PM
