Relax
First of all, thanks for all of your nice comments about the Brown Phildar sweater. I'm so, so happy with it, and I actually made an adjustment on the buttons so I like the fit even better. Yay.
But where I've been, I didn't need no stinkin' sweater! Woo-hoo! Panama City Beach! Spring Break 2005!

Woo-hoo! Gimme some beads!
Okay, so it wasn't all really like that. Most of my week was spent knitting, watching Alias, and laying in the sun. We did have one evening of craziness which involved a karaoke bar called "Sweet Dreams" (note: it's actually a karaoke bar AND liquor store. Classy) and lots of vodka. Here's me and Alison gettin' down to someone's sweet karaoke stylings:

Totally sweet.
But aside from that one evening, Jacob and I spent most of our week relaxing. And just to show you that I did knit ALL week, here's my list of finished items.
1. Second blue sock. (that makes a pair.)
2. Honeymoon Cami. (Did you notice it in the above pictures?) I *heart* this pattern. I started it a couple of days before we left and finished it by the evening we got there.

Pretty, summery honeymoon cami.
And here's what happens when we try to take a pic in the mirror.
So, for me, this tank was all about yarn choice. I made the first one with a fairly heavy cotton yarn, and it just wasn't right for the project. It didn't drape well and it sort of sat on me like a suit of armor. This yarn (Dale of Norway Svale) is a silk blend and soft and swirly and yummy and drapey and clingy and PERFECT. Yay. I will wear the CRAP out of this tank top this summer. I think I might actually unravel my first H.Cami and use the yarn for something else, because I really love the yarn.
3. Stripey socks. After finishing my cami, I was out of projects! What?? And all I'd brought with me was a ton of sock yarn, and my circs that I used for my blue socks. Sooo....

Stripey goodness, in beachy colors!
Here it is off my foot so you can really see the stripes.
I'm doing the toe decreases on Stripey Sock Two right now. And can I just say that the beach is the best light EVER for taking knitting photos? Clearly, I need to quit my job, open up a bonsai tree stand in Florida, and live by the water. Clearly.
So there you have it. I knit a lot, I relaxed a lot. I played shuffleboard (Jacob kicked my ass). And a lot of time was also spent without makeup, wearing comfy clothes, which was marvelous. On the way back from the beach on our last day, I got a glimpse of myself in the mirror and thought, 'Wow, I look SO white trash right now.' And then I thought, 'I have SO got to take a picture of my white trashy self for the blog!' So I leave you with my beachy self, looking happy, bleached blonde, and maybe a little trashy.

I was just about to yell "woo-hoo" and throw the rock on symbol with my hands.
You know what I'm talkin' about.
Back to work tomorrow. *Sigh*. How long to Maryland Sheep and Wool?

Love the blog! Glad there are knitters who knit with social justice in mind! I am a 40-something married mother of three who is working on a master's degree in Special Education. My favorite thing to calm the frayed nerves is to knit. So glad to see that knitting is back with a vengence!!!

Well I never thought it!! You and Sean Hannity in the same article. Life is stranger than fiction.
Am I allowed to read this blog?
Part of my job is to encourage, so you are still cute as a button and girl, white trash you aren't.(is that proper english?)
Once a mother always a mother and they just pop up when you least expect.
Love you.

Anyone have the info for Maryland Sheep and Wool Carrieoke asked for? I'm interested too, but I'm always dumb and don't find out until it's too late. :(

I envy all of the time you had to knit on your vacation! I am going to have a few days off this weekend and I will be happy if I get one quarter of the knitting done that you did.
Everyone else has said it, but I will now too: You soooo don't look white trash :)
Posted by Stacey | April 12, 2005 1:45 AM
You are so not white trash! If you start dressing like Kevin Federline, well, then we'll have a talk!

Here's to trashy, no-ambition, no-stress vacations!
Posted by Becca | April 11, 2005 8:55 PM
dude. jacob is so WHITE in those pictures, i fear for his soon-to-be-sunburnt self. if i actually ever wore sgetti strap tops maybe i'd make myself one of those tops out of the svale i've got sittin round here. but since i don't i mean really i DON'T then what would be the point???? :) sounds like you had a great weekend, with your white trash self. seriously, how long a drive to chicago? there's sun here. and water. and knitters. and beer. and karaoke.
Posted by carolyn | April 11, 2005 6:56 PM
You are so funny! I love the white trash photo too, seriously almost made me spew coffee (laughing). And of course your cami looks fabulous - v. jealous that you can wear such a thing! Glad you had such a great vacation - if you find any extra beach sand in your stuff when you get home, and it's still warm, would you consider mailing it to me in the northwest? it's cold and rainy here! :-)

Less than 4 weeks away...MD S&W! Hopefully we'll have weather like we did yesterday!
curious about this svale! Folk Art has a lot of it...in really nice summery colors!

Great tank, great photos, looks fun! (But please note: socks are never "too boring to show"! Shame on you!)
Posted by alison | April 11, 2005 3:08 PM
You're not the first person to consider opening up a bonsai tree farm or seashell store on the FLA panhandle... maybe we should go in on this together?
Posted by Valerie | April 11, 2005 2:43 PM
You are a knitting goddess. Love the cami, the color looks amazing on you! Glad you had fun, and you DO NOT look like PC white trash in these pictures. You look cute!

The Honeymoon Cami is SO pretty! Hopefully you didn't call it that in front of Jacob's family...they might think you're married or something :)
Did I mention that I the cami is SO pretty?!
And the socks are great too...they really looked great with your slippers and houndstooth black and white skirt today. You are truly a white trash goddess. I envy you.

I think you look cute in the last picture, too. Yay Spring Break! I love the cami and want one. If I buy you yarn, will you make it for me?
BTW, speaking of Maryland Sheep and Wool, last night on the phone, Mom said, "So when is Carrie going llama hunting?" and I was like, "Huh?"
Then we figured out that she was talking about Maryland. Har-har. Llama hunting??

LOVE the cami. Funny, I was just looking at that pattern the other day thinking how perfect it would be for the summer. Maybe I'll go yarn shopping for it today. Suggestions?
Glad you had a great trip--I'm SO jealous!

I wish I was on vacation! Thankfully, we finally have some nice weather here in the Boston area. I'm also counting the days to MD Sheep and Wool, and plan on meeting up with Cate (http://mamacate.typepad.com/mamacate/) for drinks on Friday night. You in?

I love the picture taken in the mirror! Sigh...Can I live vicariously through you? I totally need a beach vacation right now. We should totally have a knitter's retreat somewhere near water. xo MJ
