Finishing Party

So, the weather on Saturday was ... blissful. Beautiful. Don't hate me, friends in the North, but it was 80 degrees and perfectly sunny. And breezy. Clearly, when the weather is THIS nice, you gotta take the knitting outside. Even if that means finishing a wool blend sweater while you're wearing shorts and a bikini top.

All the knitting essentials.

As you can see in the picture, we have all the necessary items for an outdoor finishing party.
1. Sunscreen (SPF 30, thank you very much)
2.my tackle box full of supplies like yarn needles and pins and markers
3.a pitcher of ice water - which you may not be able to see as it is slightly hidden by...
4. My ice cold Warsteiner. Mmm, beer.

And, there's 5. the Brown Beauty herself, all pinned out and ready for seaming. In this particular shot, her sides seams are done and I'm moving towards the sleeves. (Currently, I've got the whole thing seamed up and I'm just finishing the crochet touches. Treble crochet = fun times. SO CLOSE TO FINISHED, I CAN TASTE IT.)

You can also add in a great friend or two ... (although Anne Marie might look nekkid in that picture, I promise she is decently clothed. And also , she's really happy about the weather too.) Me and AM and Alison sat out there for like 3 hours while Jacob built a rock garden in the front yard, complete with platforms for our bonsais and other potted plants. He's a schmoo, that one. A handy schmoo.

Ooh! and I felted the buttonhole bag at AM's on Friday night, and it's super cute! Someone left a comment about white Lamb's Pride not felting and you were right about that...but it actually worked out okay.

Felted goodness, indeed.
(That's Alison behind the bag.)

The purple felted nicely, so the not-as-feltedness of the top part look intentional, and pretty nice, if I do say so myself. Yay for the buttonhole bag! I was going to give it away....but I couldn't. That's happening to me a lot lately. *blush*

So, what a lovely weekend! Sure, there were tornado watches and torrential downpours on Easter Sunday, but we won't talk about that. Let's just focus on Saturday and the sunny and the good times. Oh yeah.

I hope everyone who celebrates Easter had a wonderful day and got to see family -- I did, and it was lovely! Mwah!

I'm loving the sweater!! Finish finish so I can see.

Oh, and please stop making me jealous and talking about your warm weather. It's just mean. :)

i can't believe it's so warm over there... jealousy is totally setting in. :( well, it looks like it's sort of warming up, so i can't complain. your sweater and button bag looks great. i can't wait to see the results of the seaming!

yep, the buttonhole bag rules. I'm working on my second one now. Love the colors in yours!

yes, all finishing work requiring a stiff drink and sunscreen. Or in my case, an ativan and a puppy pen to keep the dogs from trying to put in their two cents.

80 degrees! Oh I can't believe it's warm enough down there for AM to get nekked on the lawn. I'm jealous. I think if it was 80 degrees here, I really would get naked and sit outside.

It sounds ace! Beer and sun and knitting! I'm looking forward to seeing the jumper finished too, it looks good :)

OMGihateyou! While you had 80 degrees and sunny, we were smack in the middle of FIVE CONTINUOUS DAYS OF COLD AND RAIN! NO FAIR!

That bag IS SUPER CUTE and I can't wait to see your finished SWEATER (which I think you should have to model on the NEXT 80 degree day ;) )

Carrie - I LOVE your blog!!! the bag looks awesome. I was told Landscapes felts nicely, I can't wait to try it.

that bag is adorable!

What fun! Hasn't gottan quite that warm here yet, but I think 70 is plenty warm enough for me. Sweater's looking good!

feel free to bottle up some of that warm weather and send it to me!! :)

The bag is very cute, and the sweater looks like it's sewing up good! I think I'd be worried if I had all that wet stuff in the grass around me though...beer-y sweater, or sunblocked, or even, god forbid, a bit of both. Then again, I'm uber-klutz.

Lucky you with your sunny skies and fun times knitting outside! Love the little purse!

The sweater looks great--can't wait to see some model shots :)

Take care!

the sweater looks so pretty, even a little unfinished. and it's funny, but it actually looks kind of extra nice and soft and cozy in the grass and sunshine. wool blend notwithstanding.

Glad you got to enjoy the weather on Saturday (it's so weird...when you talk about weather these days, it's basically the same weather we're getting, maybe just a titch warmer)! And the bag and the brown beauty look FABULOUS. I don't blame you for keeping things you'd meant as gifts (I think we all do it to some degree)!

What an adorable bag. In fact...I just downloaded the pattern. Great 2 tone goodness!

Can't wait to see your finished sweater!

Yay for the sunshine, sunscreen & beer. :-)

The bag looks great. I had such a great day Saturday! I think in addition to looking nekkid, I look like I hadn't washed my hair in a few days...oh, wait, I don't think I did. I would like to officially invite all the northerners to your house this weekend so we can hang out in the yard in the sun :)

wow, all the components of a great seaming party! and the sun showed up to top it off. send some of those rays my way. your bag is just too cool. love the look of the two textures.

the bag is tres cute!!! i larve it. can't believe you are seaming already! yay!

Ooh, the bag and jumper look great! Will definitely add the bag to my list of must-dos.
Lucky you and your nice weather. We had snow in Kobe last week. :(

Hi Carrie,

I am also an identical twin. I was the second twin also, you guessed it, 5 minutes after my sister.

Your sweater is looking great! I am in Northwest Georgia, and we had a pretty nice day Saturday also.

Can't wait to see a finished picture. Love the bag. I haven't gotten up the courage to felt yet.

can't wait to see the finished sweater... and that button hole bag is too cute, i'm convinced i have to make one now!! (and damn you and your 80 degree weather... we're excited that it might get near 60 this week)

ah, fabulous...good friends, knitting, beer. I can almost forgive you for having sunny skies and temperate weather while we were suffering in cold rain and the mid 40's. ;)

ahhh...soak it up...and have one for me

x/o H

I love that knitting essentials shot - Cold beer in the sun while knitting with good friends - is there anything better??? So jealous....wish it would hurry up and get warm here in Tokyo! All we can manage today is 17 degrees celcius (about 60) and cloudy :(

I can't even remember what 80 degrees feels like! and what is that? Sun?

So glad you guys had such a nice day! Sounds heavenly!

The sweater is looking good- can't wait to see the finished product. I am soooo making that bag too- adorable!

Oooh, 80 degrees! I hope you get to wear your sweater at least once before the weather warms up for good!

Gotta question for you (I was going to email you but I am a dork and couldn't find an email address on here)...I remember a while ago you posted about doing socks on 2 circular needles. How'd you do it? I was trying to figure it out and I couldn't wrap my brain around it...

so into the buttonhole bag!
looks fabulous!
