Early

I am sore. I worked out yesterday, using my little hand weights, a Shape magazine, and two fabulous work out buddies (Alison and JoAnna). It was fun while it lasted, but today I feel like an 80-yr-old woman. My poor little body can't take any more lunges. No more sets of 8. Clearly, this horrible soreness is a sign that I should NEVER WORK OUT AGAIN. Gah. And don't tell me to work through the pain or I will throw my free weight at you.

Just kidding. I'll try again tomorrow. Ouch. It hurts to type.

I'm hoping that tomorrow night I can install Jacob's raglan sleeves (using the word 'install' to describe sewing up this sweater fills me with glee, why is that??) and come close to completing the Super Secret Super Late Sweater. I'll show you pics if it happens. Meanwhile, feast your eyes on this yummy goodness:

soft and sparkly.

This is by Artful Yarns, and it's called Broadway. The coolest girl I know, Anne Marie, brought me two skeins from Colorado. This yarn is so SOFT. It looks JEWELED. I'm almost scared to knit with it because I might ruin its beauty. Yay.

In another wonderful, unexpected surprise, OneStitchShort Sarah gifted me and AM with some of this pretty pretty stuff:

Holy gorgeous colorway, Batman!

Look how brilliant those colors are! I can't wait to make something with this. Although it also looks damn pretty in its little skein. Thank you, Sarah!

Oh, the yarny goodness of it all. I am a lucky schmoo, I tell you what. Now, if all the rain that is falling right now would just freeze up into a solid sheet of ice, causing the University to close, I'd be the happiest girl EVER. Oh, and someone come install a dishwasher at my house.

Um, clearly it's too late for me to be posting because I'm feeling a little punchy, so let me cut this short and just direct you to the extended entry for some music quiz fun (and thanks to Cara for tagging me!) .. and just in case you were gonna skip the extended entry, I'm tagging Anne Marie, Big Lug Jen, and Frecklegirl for this one...

Okay, I'm shamefully uncool in my music tastes, people. I've tried to hide it for many years, posing as a music hipster for a long time, and my love for disco, ABBA, and all things pop always come out in the end. So, you've been warned....

1. Total amount of music files on your computer:
Since I'm at home right now, I'm doing my home computer, which really doesn't have that much stuff downloaded. Currently, my itunes tells me that I have 132 songs, or 8.1 hours. Told ya it wasn't a lot. Let's compare this to Jacob's itunes, which has 1275 songs, 5.35 GB, or 3.5 days. Jacob is the downloader in this household.

2. The last CD you bought was:

Hmm. I'm going to have to really think about this one. Ooh! It was the Elf Soundtrack, for my brother-in-law Dave. Christmas present.

3. What is the song you last listened to before reading this message?
Well, I had choir practice tonight, so I heard the choir sing How Great Thou Art while I played along on the piano. But the last recorded song I heard was on the radio: One Two Step, by Ciara. That song is so freakin' catchy.

4. Write down 5 songs you often listen to or that mean a lot to you.

ooh! this will be fun. And I think I might do a couple of categories, just for kicks.

1. Neighborhood, by David Byrne. David Byrne is one of my all time favorite musicians, and this song is one of my all time favorite David Byrne tunes. Totally funky, and reminds me of when Jacob and I first started dating. Riding around in Jacob's truck with the windows rolled down, singing along ...

2. Come a Little Bit Closer, by Jay and the Americans. This is an oldie. This song was one of my favorites when I was really, really little, and it just kept being a favorite song as I grew up. Now that I'm older, if I hear Come a Little Bit Closer on the radio, I instantly know that something good is about to happen. Seriously. It never fails. And the song always puts a smile on my face.

3. Anything by ABBA. I know, I know. But my twin sister and I had SERIOUS ABBAMANIA when we were in high school. Cathy and I could sing you the entire ABBA Gold album. Every single song. And I'll sing Agnetha's part and she'll sing Frida's. We're that good. A few faves: Super Trouper. Name of the Game. I Have a Dream. (just kidding, that song sucks!)

4. Flashdance (What a Feeling) by Irene Cara. This is my karaoke song. It used to be my absolute favorite one to sing, and when I've been drinking, honey, I will bust OUT those notes. Now I alternate: Flashdance, Fame, Gloria, Let's Hear It For the Boy. But Flashdance is my original karaoke theme song. It's so moving! It starts out slow... it builds.... WHAT A FEELING!

5. Jesus, Etc, by Wilco. This song is achingly beautiful, seriously. I love me some Wilco, too, but this song has special significance because a boy I really liked put it on a sad CD when we broke up one time...good thing we got back together, cause damn, he's got good taste in music. Wilco makes me happy, and so does Jacob.

Five songs when I'm depressed:
Hyperballad by Bjork
Ghost by the Indigo Girls
All Through the Night, by Cyndi Lauper
Do Right Woman, Do Right Man, by Aretha Franklin
Anything by Jonatha Brooke

Five songs for getting ready to go out:
The Beach by Quintron
Back and Forth by Aaliyah
(I've Got That)Boom Boom by Britney Spears
Rock Your Body by Justin Timberlake
In Da Club by 50 Cent

Five Songs for Driving
Step Aside for the Man, by Scissor Sisters
Regret, by New Order
Needy Girl, by Chromeo
You Make My Dreams Come True, by Hall and Oates
It's Only Natural, by Crowded House

Five Broadway Songs that I Love to Sing Really Loudly
Thoroughly Modern Millie (from Thoroughly Modern Millie)
I Know Things Now (from Into the Woods)
Suddenly Seymour (from Little Shop of Horrors)
You Can Always Count on Me (from City of Angels)
Cell Block Tango (from Chicago)

5. Who are you going to pass this stick to? (3 persons) and why? Hmm. I really want Anne Marie to do it, so I hope she doesn't mind getting tagged for another one of these things.
Jen tagged herself for the movie meme, so I'm gonna tag her for the music one, because I want to see answers!

And, because she has excellent music taste and also because she's awesome, Frecklegirl gets my last tag.

Nice photo of Maxi Priest (looking very serious), taken in London by the famous photographer Pogus Caesar....we like listening to Maxi sing Wild World 'very loud' at 3am while dipping our feet in the Santa Monica waves.

Carrie, make sure you rest one full day between weight workouts. You need to give your muscles a chance to rebuild. I love that you are a "Broadway musical gal".

Carrie (& Cathy),

You girls are very talented. I'm actually from the opposite side of the globe, in a tiny country called Singapore. Do write me. It would nice to correspond with you both.

One love,
Hafidz

Hey I just wanted to give you a little tip to help you not be so sore after working out. (I learned this in my college health class last semester) Make sure that you stretch before and after you work out (after could be that you just walk around for 10 mins). This way the blood does pool in your muscles (b/c thats what causes you to be sore). Hopefully this will help you. Have a wonderful day! :o)

I will always read your extended entries immediately! I'll post my music tag soon. I, too, love ABBA. They are musical geniuses as far as I am concerned.
And you go girl with the exercise!

i just used two skeins of the noro to make two hats! it works up great! i have to get more as those hats were not for me and i am having a hard time parting with them. ha ha ha!

ps found you through frecklegirl

Look at all your pretty new yarn! Lucky lucky schmoo!

Thanks for the tag, babes. I was (shamefully) feeling a bit left out! hehe

Beautiful yarn- can't wait to see what you make out of it!

I am so proud of you that you went to the gym... I can't even remember what mine looks like!

What pretty Noro! I think that is the same color I plan to use for my Karalund. Love the sparkly yarn. Can't wait to see what it grows up to be!

There's no reason to be ashamed of liking ABBA--they are total geniuses. Have you ever watched any of their videos? There are a couple of DVD collections out now. I especially like the one for Chiquitita, because Frida's hair keeps blowing into her mouth (they're outside in the wintertime and the girls are sitting in a chair that looks like a snowman) and you can actually see Benny and Bjorn laughing at her while they play. Also, that is one of my favorite ABBA songs ever. Come to think of it, wouldn't it be great for karaoke?

Weird coincidence--when I did the music meme a while back one of my five songs ("Three Years Ago Today" by Built to Spill) was from a sad post-breakup pre-back together mix tape Steve made me years ago.

I LOVE "Come a little bit closer" and I always have to sing loud, loud, loud when I hear it. Thanks for making me think of it!

That bedazzeled yarn is gasp-inducing. YUMMY! I can't wait to see what you make out of it!

Oh yay for tagging me! I'm so happy.

I totally like ABBA too. I didn't discover it til later in life, but I love it now. And that Justin Timberlake song totally makes me shake my ass every time I hear it. I can't comment on the Broadway stuff b/c I don't have a clue about that stuff.

And I think flashdance is the BEST karoke song ever. It does have that rock and roll build. My karaoke song (on the rare occasion that I'm at karaoke) is Sweet Child of Mine.

Great music lists! You always go above and beyond. And pretty, pretty yarn, lucky you!

You're a lucky schmoo with good schmoo friends! Great yarn you've got there. I won't tell you to work through it, that's crap. But whenever I haven't worked out for a while and then I do, I get crazy sore for a day. Usually after that it's ok though. Look at you, getting all buff :)

Oops! Forgot to mention...Love the new blog look ! :-)

Carrie...I feel for you. I tried Pilates yesterday for the first time...I am SO sore today. Weights are great for you...don't give up!

Beautiful yarns!

A very happy Noro colorway!

I'm giving up exercise for Lent.

;-p

isn't the artful yarns gorgeous? i got a skein for x-mas and couldn't wait to knit it up. if you check out my archives and scroll down to jan 7th (http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~kfairchi/january05.html), you'll see the scarf that it worked up. i wear it constantly! can't wait to see what yours turns into!

also, i love the new site design!

I like that "Install"...very technical.

whatcha gonna make with the noro? voodoo wristies? beanie?

I think this is my favorite meme ever--I love reading about what other people really love!

Loving it! Thanks! I'm especially loving the songs for getting ready to go out category. I used to listen to this Maxi Priest album every Friday night getting ready to go out on dates with my now husband. Our broadway song that we sing at the top of our lungs: Sit Down John, from 1776. How geeky are we?!?
