Idolatry and Socks

I finished Sock #2 last night. And, in true-to-my-knitting-laziness fashion, I decided that two completely mismatched purple socks is not only acceptable, but totally cool. Totally.

Stripey goodness, two ways!

(Um, I photoshopped my legs out in the pop up picture because I haven't shaved in a while. I know, I'm vain. But you didn't want to see, really.)

Anyways. I'm wearing my pretty purple pair right now with boots, and they are so comfortable. Oh yes. I used Bonne Marie's Sock Love pattern, and for the second sock, (which fits my extremely narrow 6.5 foot perfectly) I only cast on 64 sts. I think I've found a great sock formula for myself!

Last was knitting night, and American Idol night, and a very special American Idol night because it was the New Orleans audition night, which is the audition that I went to with Anne Marie and Sarah!! We watched at my house and tried to look really closely in the crowd scenes to see ourselves, but no dice. Cathy Tivo'ed it, so there will probably be some slowing down of the episode just to make sure we didn't miss our TV debut. Hee.

And, strangely enough, our local paper/magazine, Flagpole, published a short article that I wrote about my audition experience. A lot of it came directly from my blog entries, but it's so weird to see it in print. It's the first article I've ever had published! YAY! Here's the link to the online version: American Idol article. I'm in print!

When I finished the second sock last night, I immediately had an itch to knit more socks, because they are SO ADDICTIVE. Yikes. I also decided (after some prodding from da Brooklyn Sock Mafia ... you know who you are...) and I tried something new!

It's a sock on two circulars!

Let me tell ya, I wasn't sure about this at first. I'm pretty quick with my dpns, and I have my ways of preventing ladders with them. So when I first started this sock, I was not happy with the crazy ladders that were going on, and all that circular cord stuff hanging down, etc. But, with the help of High Energy Jenny, I slowly got a groove going, and now, I think I really like it! I snapped that picture in the car today while running some work errands. This sock is actually knit on size 3s, and it's going to be for Jacob. And yes, he'll probably get it before he gets his sweater.

Ooh! ooh! speaking of sweaters and Jenny, the High Energy expert looked at my sweater sleeves last night and assured me that they will work out fine, and the crazy asymmetry that I saw was all in my head. (Well, she didn't say that. But it was.) So, onward ho! Next on the sweater agenda: side seams.... oh lordy.

I've been tagged to do a fun movie list and a fun music list which I will get to immediately. Err, I mean, after work.

I'm dying to do socks on circs - very cute! So is the new skin.

Your socks look very cute, Carrie!

Those socks are FAB! And I love how they match with the wonderful purpleness that is your site.

And your legless socks ain't scary. Photoshop away, bay-bee! Anyway, you wear your socks on your FEET, not on your legs.

Another long time reader/lurker....OK, I admit, I read your archives and now I feel I know you well! You are so cool, and I love your positive attitude on life! Love the site! Love the socks! I need to learn to knit me some socks. Were socks really easy to learn?

Clearly, you wouldn't have anted these socks to be perfectly matched ... FYI, I've linked to you in my 'knit fixes' section; no reciprocity necessary but I thought you'd like to know ...

hey! hadn't seen your site in awhile. like the new look! just visited HE Jenny's site - so cute - and got great scarf pattern. Like I need another one! Hope you and the schmoos are well! :)

Ummmm....I was frightened by the second sock pic. Kinda creepy without LEGS! But maybe the hairy legs would have scared me more? Love the socks.

I kept telling the BF "look, this is the episode where the girl whose blog I read tried out for American Idol! I have to watch it!" See, and I don't even watch American Idol! I love the socks. Side seaming is so easy, sister, especially with all your new sewing experience it'll be a breeze. :)

I am so late with this but - love the socks! :)

Carrie? I daydream of sending you a package to encourage your sewing craftiness... interested?

Hi Carrie, I'm delurking. I was just browsing the prettyposies members profiles (I'm a little slow on the uptake, I've been with prettyposies since September and didn't even know that stuff was there!) and noticed that you live in Athens GA (what did I tell you, a little slow on the uptake). I'm applying for grad school at UGA, and I'm so excited that there are knit bloggers there already! Yay!

*giggle* I'm lucky enough to be so pale that I reflect enough light to hide the fact that I had stubble on my sock pic from Monday, lol...

I kept my eyes peeled for ya on the Nawleans show too...oh well!

I love the colour of those socks - I definitely need to make a pair out of that yarn! They look great

The legless socks are scary!! I blame the nightmares that I will have tonight on you ;)

Your Photoshopped legs totally cracked me up! AND I SO KNEW WHY before I read it!! LOL. I would have TOTALLY done the same thing, I think ;)

related side note : My date last week actually made some comment about how he bet I hadn't shaved in a while (don't know HOW that came up) and tried to get me to SHOW HIM! Trust me, he did NOT wanna see!!! My legs could double for Xmas trees right now ;)

I'm so jealous of your prettypretty socks. I think they ROCK! I LOVE that they're different! I seem to have lost my sock mojo. I knit one pair, started a new one and somehow just never got more than a few inches in :(

That ghost sock picture has me laughing so hard I almost fell of my chair. Yay for freaky pictures!

Love your purple socks! They're not mismatched.... they just each have their own personality!!!

Great socks! Great article (read it from AM's site..). But my gawd, that two circ method looks SCARRRY! Have made tube socks using the 'Magic Loop' method but that looks downright sinister! (And yeah, that is why I love knitting blogs, expands my horizons ;)
Love the new look of your blog, very YOU!

oooh...super ghastly (very well knit) sockies. love the purple.

I read the article...made me remember reading that post...many moons ago. Very very cool...can't wait for you to make it next year!!

Those are some pretty awesome socks there! And congrats on the article! So much goodness in one post...can I stand it? Hoo boy, yes! Looking forward to your movie list.

I obviously wasn't a blogger then, I can't believe you auditioned. You'll always be my American Idol :) I was creeped out by those socks till I read your caption. My legs are the same way, great to be able to do that in winter huh?

Super scary ghosty socks. oooooooh!

The seaming will be FINE. Worry not, carrieschmoo. You can DO IT. ;-)

I looked for you guys in the crowd scenes too! Didn't see you. Too bad you didn't get to "go to Hollywood" as Paula Abdul keeps saying. That would have been pretty cool. Congrats on the article, though... And on the socks.
\I agree that the 2-circs method is overrated. But, ummm, are you knitting while driving? And taking photos of your knitting while driving? That can't be safe Carrie!! ;)

love those socks!

Aaaaw yee-AH, Baby! Groovy socks! OK, I've GOT TO learn how to knit socks on circs! Glad you got the bug!

Yay! for finishing Jacobs sweater! Well, for finishing the knitting part at least! :)

Get seeming girl! You're so close!

God bless Photoshop! Cool sox and even cooler news that you don't have to reknit the sleeve! YIPEEE!!!

Way high five on the "in Print". How many copies are you getting?

I loved your AI article - very well written and interesting. I've always wondered how those auditions go. I figured they must winnow down the thousands to a much smaller number before they get to the judges. I've always wondered how many of those really bad singers are actually delusional enough to think they're good and how many just want to get on tv. Sorry you didn't make it though - it would have been so awesome to see you and vote for you!!

It's the invisible woman! Wearing socks!

I love 'em...and I totally want to learn to knit socks. :)

Oh! Yay for the fab socks without having to frog and reknit! I like the legless socks. That made me chuckle. I am also excited to hear that you can wear boots down south. Because I was concerned once we move south that my boot-wearing days would be numbered (boots on a 60 degree day? ok or not?). :)

And your article for your American Idol audition....how fab are you?!

I love the ghost socks! I think I want to photoshop some MORE hair onto my legs. Is that possible?
PS HE Jenny is a genius, is she not?

i have to agree with arina -- the legless socks are very creepy -- very "Thing" if "Thing" were feet.

Purple anything ROCKS! Whether it matches its mate or not. I love purple socks.

Cute socks, lady!

Longtime reader, never commented before, though...but I have to say that the legless socks are kinda scary, not going to lie! But go you on the socks -- they're actually supercool in that non-matchy kinda way!
