Cold
This was written on Friday:
[I am so cold. I know my Northern friends are laughing at me right now, but I'm actually wearing some fingerless mitts in my office as I type... it's freezing! This area is also preparing for ICE STORM 2005 as the forecast is calling for less than an inch of sleet or snow. (Again, the Northerners may commence laughing now.)
Still working on Jacob's socks. This weekend is seaming time: the Super Sweater will be Seamed. I can do it! I might not get the sleeves installed properly (yes, I said installed) but I'm going to have the sides all sewn up. I've got time! Especially if we're stuck at home because of ICE STORM 2005.]
So, ICE STORM 2005 came and hit Athens with a vengeance. I stayed all warm in my house Friday and Saturday, only escaping once or twice to look at the ice and snow (!), shiver, and then run back inside.
I did complete my mission! I seamed the sides of Jacob's sweater! (I know Elizabeth, High Energy Jenny, you are proud of me!) Here's a picture of one of my glorious side seams:

Side Seam!
And now you're thinking, wow, Carrie, what a boring picture! But if you look closer, like here and here, the seam looks like it's supposed to! Like two little knit stitches next to each other, not like a big bumpy seam. YAY. This is a great accomplishment for me, people. Next step: Sleeves. Raglan. Scary.....
In other fun news, Jacob's sister Alison, moved in on Sunday, and we are happy to have her in town. Here's a picture of Alison and her Tiny Schmoo, Yoda.

cuteness.
Bella is scared of Yoda. They played a little this afternoon, which meant that Yoda chased Bella around and Bella hid. (Remember: Bella is probably four or five times BIGGER than Yoda....) Hee.
Ooh! I got tagged by the fabulous Em to do this fun movie quiz, so at the risk of revealing how truly uncool I am, here are my answers in the extended entry...
1. The last movie you went to see in a theater: I actually have no idea, because
it has been that long since I saw a movie in the theater. I remember that we
bought tickets for Anchorman, and then decided we weren't in the mood
for it, and snuck into another movie instead. Here's a secret: I hate
seeing movies in movie theaters;they make me anxious.
2. The last movie you watched at home: Hero. I watched that and House
of Flying Daggers in one weekend, and I loved them both.
3. How many movies do you own? Not very many. We have 10 DVDs, tops.
We have a lot of old VHS tapes of movies that I taped off of television including
The Facts of Life Down Under. Yes, that's a movie about the girls from
Facts of Life going to Australia.
3a. What was the last movie you bought? Hmm. I bought, if this counts,
a David Byrne concert DVD for Jacob for his birthday. Besides that, I truly
have no idea when I last bought a movie. Am I boring you yet?
4. Got Netflix (or a similar service)? Absolutely. What are the next three
movies in your queue? Super Size Me, The Bicycle Thief, and Saturday Night Live,
the Best of Will Farrell, Vol. 2. I have a lot of trouble picking movies for
my Netflix queue, and I also share a queue with Jacob. Jacob (hi, honey!) has
a tendency to hog the queue. And push all of my choices down to the bottom.
Ahem. But we are working through that.
5. List five movies you adore/mean a lot to you: I usually hate making lists
like this, because mine aren't ever very cool, and then I feel inferior.
But I'm going with my gut here, and laugh if you must:
Anne of Green Gables. I know, it's a made for TV movie, but DUDE.
How awesome is that movie? Oh, Gilbert, how I loved thee. And how badly did
I want red hair and green eyes? I so wanted to be Anne-with-an-e...I still
kind of do, actually.
Waiting for Guffman. Clearly, this is a hilarious movie. But as a drama
kid, I totally loved that it was about musical theatre and community theatre. How can you resist
a song like "Stool Boom"?
Chicago Holy crap. I seriously wanted to get up in the movie theater
and dance around and sing when I saw this movie. Like I said before, I am a
musical theater kid, and I was so enamored with this movie. The costumes ...
the dancing! even the singing. LOVED IT.
Gone with the Wind. I know a lot of people probably hate this movie,
but I will always love it, so frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn what you
think. Har.
Big Fish. A movie hasn't made me cry like this in SO LONG. Beautiful
story. I love Albert Finney so much.
6. Name your guilty pleasure movie (or genre): I have two guilty pleasure genres.
The first is cheesy dance (or cheerleading!) competition movies. Two shining
examples are Save the Last Dance and Center Stage;
(by the way, I just couldn't remember the name of that movie, and I typed
"cheesy ballet movie"; into Google and got it right away. D'oh!).
And that final scene (they all have them), the one that the whole movie leads
up; the one where she HAS to blow everyone away? Amazing. Always.
The second is the makeover movie, like the classic, Can't Buy Me Love,
or She's All That. Speaking as a former (current) nerd,
I so dreamed of going from "totally geek to totally chic" when I
was growing up.
7. Name 3 people to whom you're going to pass these questions on, and why: Anne Marie,
because she's always watching some bizarre movie that I've never
heard of, Jenny,
because she has great taste, and Hannah,
because I'm curious about her list.

I am definitely not laughing at you wearing the fingerless mittens as it is now April in the desert and I need to make me some to wear to work!
Fantastic seams. I hope I can make a mean seam when I finally get to making a seam.
Anne of Green Gables is the best! Of course I have to put up with dh teasing me about it every single time I watch it!
I am glad you liked Can't Buy Me Love. I thought it was cool. It surprises me that people like that movie as it was filmed at my school and to me it is not a movie but something to watch and point to everyone I know. Or for my dh to watch, point at me and laugh. LOL!

i went to pei last summer for a wedding. i've never seen the movie but i used to love the books. oddly enough, most of the tourists that visit pei are japanese and they go just because of anne of green gables. so she's a hit in japan, too!

I only laughed a little at your weather. (Very little) I stopped when I saw the pretty sweater though. Nice job.

Hi.
Since you went to the Oral Surgen a while back you haven't mentioned your TMJ problems, do you still have pain? Did you do someting that helped? Hope you are better.

I love the seam! Great work!
OOO, Center stage is one of my mostest fave movies...perfect for knitting on a rainy sunday!
yoda is too cute! poor bella!

My list is done. But I definitely also love Center Stage (it's probably right after Bring It On, on my cheesy movie list). But then I just read Strictly Ballroom up in the comments, and I'm totally trying to not go revise my list...

I totally sobbed my way through the end of Big Fish...

I too have to admit to loving Center Stage. In fact, I can't believe that I haven't bought it yet. For awhile I looked for it in the bargain bins everytime I went to Target or Wal-Mart, but surprisingly it never showed up. I'll have to start my quest again.
PERFECT seams! When I attempt something with seams will you show me how you did them? (Mine always look sloppy).

Yeah! Great Seaming!
Maybe you can finish it for Valentine's Day?
Anne of Green Gables is awesome! Gilbert Blythe, the name just melts my heart. :P

Ooooh! New schmoos and perfect seaming (I'm atrocious at them; I understand your accomplishment!), and cheesy flicks! I did love BIg Fish (so not cheesy), but I also loved Bring It on (Kirsten Dunst being cute is cute).
And very glad you got to stay home during Ice Storm 2005. =D

No way! I just bought the Anne of Green Gables DVD this morning on Overstock.com! I am so in love with this movie (and the sequel) that I still watch them repeatedly off old VHS tapes (recorded off PBS when I was wee thing). These tapes are so old and worn out and accidentally recorded over in spots, that it was high time I made this purchase. I thought perhaps I was too old for this, but judging by how many people I've recently heard of and met that are also Anne fans, I don't feel so weird.
Oh -and I have to agree, your seams do look pretty darn great. Good work!

Is "Center Stage" the one where the big showstopping number has the 2 principals riding offstage on a motorcycle? And a choreographed sex scene that looks like an outtake from "Truth Or Dare?" I almost wet my pants laughing when I saw that - - all four times (yeah, I guess cheesy dance movies are on my guilty pleasure list, too.)

OMG! Anne of Green Gables rocks (I thought I was the only one)...as does Waiting for Gufman...you have great taste!

Bella and Yoda sitting in a tree....Yoda is SO cute. I'm so glad both he and Alison are in town!
And I saw the sweater seams in real life - they are PERFECT! Can't wait to see it with the sleeves :)

The sweater looks fabulous and I LUFFED your list. I just re-watched Waiting for Guffman recently..."Nothing every happens on Mars..." I can't get those songs out of my mind. "CHAIRS ARE FOR FOOLS!!!" ha! xo MJ

Sweetie, don't ever let me hear you call yourself uncool again. Your list rocks! Can I just say how much I LOVE that you put "Waiting for Guffman" on it, when the other obvious choice would've been "Best in Show"? I love 'em both, but "Waiting for Guffman" is dearer to me, too. And oh, God, I love cheesy dance movies too. My fave? Strictly Ballroom. I think I watched that movie 3 times in one weekend once.
Posted by Em | February 1, 2005 8:31 AM
Very nice seams! I am horrible at seams, but perhaps it is because I haven't gotten enough practice. (I try to stay away from patterns that require seaming)
And how could you *not* love Save The Last Dance?! Hee hee. I love Julia Stiles.

Super stupendous seams! The raglans will go well. Let me know if you want to get together to work on them this week. Glad were all thawing out.
Posted by Jenny | February 1, 2005 1:24 AM
The sweater looks great!
You forgot The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez. THAT is a guilty pleasure. I watched Bring it On just the other day. Yay cheesy movies!
Posted by Cathy | January 31, 2005 11:04 PM
Looks perfect to me; you'll sail through the raglan part!
Posted by Lorette | January 31, 2005 9:45 PM
have you seen that fake movie preview that pretends to look like the most awesome boy cheerleading movie ever but is actually an ad to turn off your cell phones in the theater? oh hold on you never go to the damn theater so how would you have seen it. doh doh doh. well, you would totally be like me and be like secretly thinking to yourself "wow that is going to be the greatest movie ever!!" each and every time and then be like DOH! it is a commercial! have we not talked in like 89 years or something? are you home tomorrow night while i am working?
Posted by carolyn | January 31, 2005 9:32 PM
Your seam looks fabulous!
I have to admit that I watch Center Stage whenever it's on.
Posted by monica | January 31, 2005 8:22 PM
I'll fight you for Gilbert. :)
Posted by Merinda | January 31, 2005 7:29 PM
i loooooove anne of green gables. "fishing for lake trout." my friend and i have serious plans to go to pei in the next couple of years just to see where green gables is. oh yeah baby. great seams, too!
Posted by thuy | January 31, 2005 7:09 PM
Pretty seams! My seams always look so...eh.
Good movies, too. I had a roommate once who loved Anne of Green Gables to the point of crazy obsession. She could be anywhere in the apartment and if someone was in the living room flipping channels and that movie happened to be on (which it was a lot), she could hear 1/2 second of it and run out and throw a true actual fit until we put it back on that channel. Needless to say, I'm glad to be rid of her. I still have a hard time with that movie, though.

I was in Atlanta for "Storm 2000" (visiting from Connecticut). We laughed at the news reports, and the fact that they were listing church cancellations. (I had never seen that before!). It wasn't so funny when I had to leave the hotel, and realized there were no plows or sanding trucks to take care of what little ice there was.
Posted by Christina | January 31, 2005 5:15 PM
I want an ICE STORM too! Alas, our schools rarely close, and we're expected to go out in the elements no matter what. :)
Posted by D' | January 31, 2005 5:03 PM
I want an ICE STORM 2005! The closest we get in LA is STORM WATCH 2005, which is pretty much people watcing the rain come down from the sky. OHMIGOSH...WE'RE ALL GONNA DROWN!!! Fab job on the seams...can't wait to see the rest of it!
Posted by Christie | January 31, 2005 4:56 PM
I *love* cheesy dance movies too!!!! Including the classics like Flashdance and Girls Jsut Wanna Have Fun! I'll also watch ANY dreck movie as long as it has romaaance content.
your seams look FABULOUS! You're my seaming HERO! I've never really done any before, so I'm totoally scared of them right now!
