All in the Family
I'm home! I had such a great trip to see my dad in North Carolina ... he lives in a little tiny town near Raleigh, NC. Here is evidence: This is the view from his back porch.

Heyyyy ... Nice pasture.
That's a big old field ... of ... some crop that someone in my family is growing. I think. At any rate, it goes on for a long time. And it's darn purdy. Here's something else in my dad's backyard:

Ducks, and chickens, and roosters, I think?
Those guys did NOT like having their picture taken. I did it pretty quickly anyways because it was SO FLIPPIN' COLD OUTSIDE. Gaw.
And here's the man of the hour:

He's just, ya know, hanging out on the porch.
I love this picture of my dad! He looks so cool and suave and relaxed. My dad had a stroke five years ago and this might be one of the most relaxed pictures I've taken of him since. (And yes, I know he shouldn't be smoking. We know.) He seemed really happy on this visit, which makes me and my sisters happy girls. What else makes me a happy girl?

Socktastic!
Pretty sock yarn out in the country makes me happy. And getting to hang out and knit with my sister Michelle -- click here to see Michelle having fun knitting times! It was a good trip all around. And oh yes, I got to eat me some dee-lish-us North Carolina barbecue -- Wilber's in Goldsboro (check out the rating - Five Grease Stains!)-- and oh, the potato salad was SO. GOOD. Oh, how I wish I could get me some Wilber's around these parts.
Oh! And in addition to fun times with Dad and Michelle, great food, and pretty scenery, I got to hang out with my Aunts Dorothy and Angeline (that's AN-jell-een), who are sewing goddesses. Really. I showed them my little green bag and they liked it! And Angeline helped me put a zipper and a bottom in the bag (and by helped I mean she did it for me, but told me what she did.) And Angeline makes bags too (clearly the sewing runs in the family and I should quit my job now to start a sewing business. Just sayin'.) Click here to see the bag she gave me to bring home.
I picked the chili bag in honor of our dog, Chili. She told me all about how she makes her bags, and these are some sturdy bags, people. I've got the family secrets now!
So, it was a fun, relaxing trip, but I'm glad to be back with my Jacob and my schmoos. I'm definitely planning a sewing trip sometime soon -- my country aunts are crafty divas, yo.

You were a hit at the office. Wore it with a navy turle neck and a wool cream skirt. Smash fashion hit.
Thanks again

The picture of your dad reminds me of the last px I have of my dad who died 5 yrs ago. He too held a cigarette and was most loveable and treasured and the smoking drove me nuts. Thank God it wasn't the main content of our conversations!

Hey, you were right near me then. I live about twenty minutes southeast of Goldsboro in a middle of nowhere spot. That first view from your dad's back porch looks like the view from my back porch, lol ;) Wilber's does have great barbecue, another place you should try is Grandpa's in Snow Hill. Mmmm!

Oh. My. Hell. Barbeque in Goldsboro...Good times! My mom grew up not too far from there and we always got yummy vinegary 'que when we went to visit. The closest thing I've found 'round here is The Barbeque Shack. Check it out - dee-lish!

I love the bag your aunt made!!! How are the yarn shops in Raliegh? My sister in law and her husband have a lake house near there. We go several times a year and I CAN'T go to the local Walmart one more time. I made her promise me next time we're going to the "city" for yarn! Jane

What a wonderful trip! Thanks for all the photos -- lovely. Are you sure those white birds are ducks, and not geese?
I caught a bit of the American Idol auditions on TV the other night (right before drooling over Charlie S. on Lost), and I just kept thinking, "Why isn't Carrie there?" (OK, I know you weren't there because it wasn't your town, but still, it should have been YOU!) :)

Yay for having you back home! :-) I'm glad you had a good time! I have been reminiscing a lot this week about our little New Orleans trip as I've watched the American Idol auditions. I don't know if you got to see the girl do hanky panky? It was hilarious. "You sing terribly but you spank very well". Anyway.

Your dad is the cutest thing ever! And that means a lot, because you always post the cutest things on your blog (scmoos, sisters, knitting and sewing!).

Your Dad really does look relaxed (of course the only other time I saw him was at Cathy's wedding!). I feel relaxed just looking at that place. What does he do with those chickens and such? Can you pet them?
And I can't believe all the progress you made on your sock since that photo!

(Is that caption for the pasture picture a reference to Taylor's mom?)
Glad you had such a good time visiting your Dad. He DOES look really good and healthy in that picture.

Normally I'm just a lurker but I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your blog! I also wanted to tell you how lucky you are to have left our great state of NC when you did. The governor has actually declared a state of emergency in the Raleigh area due to the 2 inches of snow we received today (yes only 2). There were hundreds of accidents and people were stuck on the interstates for HOURS. We Southerners really know how to freak out over some snow!!
Keep up your great work!
