If You're Going To San Francisco....
...be sure to wear some flowwwerrrs in your haaaiiirr.....
Well, technically I'm in Oakland. And I don't have flowers in my hair, although I passed a lot of really pretty flowers when I was walking to the coffee shop today.
Things are crazy up in this piece, so this entry will be short and sweet. I do have some pictures though! (cool things about Macs: I can plug my camera into the USB port and load up pics with no program or drivers. I heart Macs.)
I arrived in one piece after spending ALL DAY Monday on a plane or in an airport. Thank GOD for knitting, dude, because I would've been a grumpy pants for sure if I didn't have my knitting with me. Mikael and Stuart picked me up at the Oakland airport, and just before they arrived, I had a celebrity sighing: Ty, the extremely hot carpenter from Trading Spaces. Oh yeah. I think he might have been on my plane because we were at the same baggage carousel. Our conversation went like this:
me: Hey Ty, I love your show. Do you want to get married?
Ty: Sure Carrieoke! I totally recognize you from your knitting blog, which I read every day and love. Let's get hitched!
Okay, so I didn't talk to him. Lots of other people were harassing him so I decided to be cool. But dang, he is HOT.
Okay. so me and Mikael and Stuart and fabulous studio intern Andrew went to a Mexican restaurant, where they raised my spirits and energy level with a quesadilla and some margaritas. Yum. They were preparing me for the fact that they were about to take me back to the studio and MAKE ME RECORD even though I'd just been traveling for like, 13 hours. Silly boys. See photo to see how I felt about that. But in rock star fashion, I stayed up and worked on some music. And also because it's hard to sleep in the studio when people are mixing music. Honestly, that's what most of my week so far has consisted of. Late nights in the studio, recording vocals, and freaking out a little bit because this trip is making the whole music thing VERY real.
However, I got a nice little break from the studio last night ... I got to hang out with Elizabeth!

Coffee, knitting, and blog-o-friends! Woo-hoo!
Elizabeth totally rocks, by the way. She is hilarious and fun and we had a blast hanging out, even spending a long time in a drugstore looking for a cell phone charger. I can't wait to hang out more with her this week! We actually met up at Article Pract, which is literally walking distance from the studio ... I think I'm taking that as a sign. A good sign. I think.
I have lots more to tell you, including details about our meeting with our lawyer (!) but I gotta go knit. Er, I mean work in the studio. Just so you know that I'm in good hands, here's a picture of my bandmates Stuart and Mikael. They will so kill me for posting this, but I don't think they read the blog every day. This was taken at the Smokehouse:

mmm. burgers.
I will try to post again later this week ... send me fabulous, confident vibes. I'm not done meeting producers yet.
ooh!ooh! Jacob said that I had some socks that came in the mail... I can't WAIT to see them! Also, I miss Jacob and the schmoos like the dickens.

Cripes. Call me slow. I had no idea you were working on an album! Enjoyed seeing you over at Yarn a Go Go today. On that vein GO GIRL!!! (Yes, I realize I used 3 exclamation marks, I am just that excited for you :)

OH MY GOD! I love the photo of your bandmates at the Smokehouse, which is just a few blocks from our home and is where I've been eating burgers my whole life. I'm really sorry I missed meeting you at Rachael's on Saturday. We were at SFO, picking up my son who is visiting from Germany. He's so enamored of the Smokehouse that he bowed to it as we passed on the way home from the airport.

Gimme a C! Gimme an A!
OK, we'll stop right there. But you're totally fabulous and completely confident. Now get out there and sing!

You're already fabulous, so I'm sending confidence vibes your way.
Kick arse! I am so excited that you're doing this real music thing. You are such a doer, and that is without compare. Take care out there!

Carrie!!! We miss you! But glad things are going well. You can do it, I'm so proud of you going out there and believing in yourself!!!!! Good luck!
If you get nervous, just picture Anne Marie as a carpentress. Hahahahahahaha!

sorry about the bad words in my last comment. is that improper blog etiquette? man, i feel like such an a$$. ;)
Posted by jenna | December 16, 2004 6:07 PM
damn girl, talk about having fans. look how much we all love you. anne marie was so distraught last night when we were all knitting and sad that you weren't with us that she was wishing for some tranquilizers. we had to make do with wine instead. we made it through the night but it just wasn't the same without you. i started my first lace project and fucked it up and then jenny fixed it for me. yay jenny! i'm very excited about it. ok, i'll stop writing so much and just say that i'm glad you're having a good time and being so productive out there and that jacob's comment is pretty darn funny. see you soon!

You're gonna be awesome! Remind me to get editorial control next time we take pictures. What is up with my bangs? i must have been playing with them. i do that sometimes when i'm nervous. And am I blushing or is it a caffeine rush?
egads. either we have to take another picture together or i have to learn photoshop fast. i'm leaning towards another picture b/c then i get to hang out with you again. :)

Congrats on the recording-let us know when your CD hits the shelves! Happy holidays!

You're so darn lucky! I'm sure if you had talked to Ty that's exactly how it would have gone though. Sending the vibes your way. Have a great time and do good as I'm sure you will!

Oh, I think I found a typo in your blog...surely you meant to ask Ty if he would marry your fabulous friend, and highly skilled carpentress, Anne Marie. Right? RIGHT?!
Everyone was asking about you last night at knitting...I had to tell them every word you said about San Fran...and you know how my memory is, so I mainly just told them how much you missed me and couldn't wait for me to move out there :)

You know, Lala lives right between the Smokehouse (oh, the shakes) and Article Pract. So's you know. If you need a schmoo fix. (They'll be there on Saturday, too....)

There was a period of time a few years ago where I was in studios a lot, between Steve's band recording and Steve doing guest bits on various people's records (and me having nothing better to do than tag along). I so wish I had been knitting then--I was really bored most of the time, so much so that at one point I actually started reading a rhyming dictionary, one of the only books in the building. It's weird--studios always give me a slight sleepy feeling, probably due to the sound-dampening, but it is hard to sleep in them. I used to manage to take cat naps, but mostly just because Steve's bass player friend had an adorable schmoo named Elsie who would snuggle up with me on the couch.
Best of luck with everything on your trip, cutie pants. I'm sure you'll rock their asses off.

you go girl! I am so excited to read all about your adventures...don't forget about us when you make the big time!
Have fun, you knittin' songbird!

Break a leg rockstar! I love that the picture of your friends is mid-bite! Ty Pennington is hot...I mean who doesn't like a cute guy with some carpenter skills?

DUDE! I was in L.A. for a whole week and didn't see a single celebrity!!! Although I did hang out with someone who knows both Weird Al AND Crispin Glover, so...that's cool. (so was the lady who knew them)
I am so PROUD of you for doing this! How many people really persue their dreams like this? You will make it! Good vibes! Yay! xoxo MJ

I am so jealous you saw Ty. My husband says I can't be allowed anywhere near him for Ty's own safety because there's no telling what I might do ;)
Anyway, good luck!!

Your conversation with Ty cracks me up. Hmph--I thought I was the only one who imagined silly conversations with random people like that.
You totally need to change your blog title to Rock Star Carrie. I am in awe.
When you see Rachael, you must give her a gigantic hug from me, OK? I've already told her to do the same for you.

I'm so excited for you!!!!! Enjoy every minute of it!
xo,

Hey! Look where you and Elizabeth went for coffee! I know of a certain Starbucks where a certain girl works that you should visit if said certain girl can't meet you on Saturday...hee hee!
You totally look like a rock star in that picture in the studio...

Carrie! You're a rock star!!! You look gorgeous in that picture, very French or something, with the stripes and hoop earrings and scarf. Happy travels, can't wait to hear and read all about the rest of your adventure~ and thanks for the sweet message on my blog, I really appreciate it.

I'm in the San Francisco area (the "peninsula" side) and I so wish I had the time to meet you while you're in town. Hopefully next time!
Fabulous, confident vibes are coming your way, although I'm sure you can knock 'em dead without them!

Fabulous, confident vibes, as ordered! As my boy likes to say, you're gonna rock that sh*t, yo! Actually, I'm sure you're already in the process of rockin' it.
I myself was at the Oakland airport on Monday (twice!) and didn't see you or Ty -- can't imagine why not.

Glad you are doing well- I have no doubt that you are kicking ass out there!!
I hope you get to meet Loody while you are out there. She is awesome in stressful situations- a very calming presence and she gives great hugs. hehe
