Recovering, Part 2
Grr. The election SO did not turn out how I wanted. Nationally... um, yeah. In Georgia, not only did we elect two Republican senators, but we overwhelmingly passed the gay marriage amendment.
I'm so pissed that 11 states passed amendments against gay marriage. I think this is gross and awful, and I'm so upset. I can't even construct a coherent thought about it. I play the piano at a GLBT church in Athens, and I've met so many wonderful parents and their freakin' awesome kids who could be affected by this discrimination. Their partnerships, and families, don't affect my relationships / potential marriage in ANY WAY. Gay marriage is NOT a political issue. ARGH. So, I'm angry and I'm so sad to see my friends' lives be affected like this.
But. I've decided to make a list of 10 things that make me happy today, so I will remember that the current administration doesn't have to bring me down.
A la Em, I present :
TEN THINGS THAT MAKE ME HAPPY RIGHT NOW
1. My boyfriend in a mullet wig and a bright orange tank top that says "I Rock It Old School." (see previous entry.)
2. When my dog Bella drags her tummy across the carpet, ALL THE WAY AROUND THE COFFEE TABLE.
3. When Anne Marie calls her dog Petey "Pitter Patter Stimmer Stammer" or some other equally hilarious name.
4. When Cathy and I have an instant message conversation that consists only of ridiculous emoticons, like the pizza symbol, and I know she's giggling in her classroom while I'm giggling in my office.
5. Embroidery using fabby Sublime StitchingPatterns.

You better walk your schmoo!
6. Tiny Pinocchio. (link via the hilarious Lala.)
7. My knitting cabinet, installed by Jacob the Handyman.

Click here to see the open cabinet.
8. Coffee.
9. Ordering office supplies and having them delivered the next day. I have just recently discovered "sign here" tabs. I love them.
10. The Decemberists. (thanks, Jess and Casey!)
Yay, that so doesn't even cover so many things! I'm already cheered up. And I'm about to go have lunch and knitting time with AM, which will cheer me up even more.
It's going to be okay. This too shall pass. And all that inspirational crap. I hope everyone has a better day today.

Your list is great!
I have probably mentioned it before, but one of my dogs in named Bella too (and she is a Purling Puppy!)

Great new cabinet.
Take care, Carrie!

Love the embroidery! Did you find it tricksy?

Oh man, the thing about you and your sister sending messages back and forth? That sounds like me and my twin sister!
And I am loving the embroidery. Seeing it on your last post got me thinking of all sorts of Christmas presents!

I couldn't agree with you more on all accounts.
Thank heavens for schmoos and kitties!

I had to remind my mom that she survived the Nixon years and we will survive the Bush ones as well...

Agreed re the election. We were stunned, and deeply saddened, on this end, at the increasing conservative nature of this nation. At a President who discusses religion, when this country was founded on separation of church and state. At the anger at the "other" that is out there.
Your list has soothed us a bit. Especially mention of the decemberists. and your schmoo. keep your chin up.

hey! i think every knitter deserves a cabinet that great.. and a boyfriend to install it for her!
on a more serious note, the legislation out there against gay marriages is just ridiculous, i don't know what anyone's trying to prove by restricting the happiness of a country's own citizens. you'd think in this new day and age that things would be getting better .. not going completely backwards. sometimes its a sad world we live in
thank goodness we have teeny tiny dogs to cheer us up, oh and office supplies... buying new supplies makes me woozy and weak at the knees, is this normal? i just love the feeling of a new notebook and a new pen, mmm
i guess we just have to keep positive and hope for the best cause you have 4 more years of Bush, and i live in Canada so what you guys do down there definitely affects us too
:) Colleen

Thank goodness you had a link to Sublime Stitching Patterns. I love them and just ordered some. You did a fantastic job on them. I hope I can embroider at least as well as you. Great job.
Very cool knitting cabinet!

I love you girl! Your list made me happy too. And lunch was great...thank godess that we went to 5 pts. Deli instead of 5 Star Day so I wouldn't be accosted by Santiago and one of his new sorority girls...

We're only the minority by 2.79% (or some such). Not a minority! Just a group of people that needs to hunker down with some serious new strategies.
I love your list. And your knitting cabinet! But oh, that embroidery kiss MONSTER ASS. (is there an emoticon for that?)

I cried during John Edwards speech. It totally sucks. I live in Washington State where the majority voted for Kerry. I just can't understand why.
Posted by Tina | November 4, 2004 3:43 PM
I find it funny like ALL 5 of the knit georgia blogs I READ VOTEF FOR KERRY???
My husband says he thinks people who use the internet must all be democrates.. must be true. OR IT WAS RIGGED!

I went straight from depressed (wanting to drink wild turkey under the bed) to REALLY DARN MAD! Time to take the gloves off liberals!
Your list of ten things made me smile too. My number 3 right now....a brown sparrow outside my office window.

Am jealous of your knitting cabinet! Putting something like that on my dream-house-will-have-this list right now.
Embroidery -- so cute! Is it hard?

I'm sorry that you are the minority in your state. I'm sorry that we both appear to be the minority in this country. Thanks for the happy list, though, it made m smile.

That is such a good idea. :)
I am glad that the Decemberists made the list and that we could share them with you. They rock!
Love the knitting cabinet- hope that helps the "yarn all over the house" tension. :)
Oh- and the embroidery is gorgeous! What is that on?

Thanks for the happy thoughts! I love the "walk your schmoo" embroidery! My husband and I have taken to calling our pups our schmoos!

Sigh, yeah, I feel the exact same way. It's raining hard here in DC, I'm taking it as a sign.
Last night, I did remind myself that there are still good people in the world and good things will still happen. Sometimes that gets blotted out by all the big things but it's true.
Sigh.
