Holiday Recovery

Thanksgiving was so much fun! Since I got enough of my family during Cat's wedding (just kidding family!), we spent the holiday with Jacob's family. I haven't seen Jacob's parents or his sister Alison for a pretty long time, so it was nice to catch up and chat.

We did many fun things, including:
*playing with Alison's two adorable schmoos, Yoda and Lucas. Here is Yoda. Here is Lucas. I *heart* these dogs. Alison is a make up artist and will be traveling a lot for her job, so I tried to convince Jacob that we needed to bring Lucas home with us. I REALLY tried. He was almost convinced, but not quite. I'm currently trying to convince Drew and JoAnna to adopt him....

*playing Trivial Pursuit with the whole fam. And guess who won? Me! Don't listen to Jacob or anyone else when they say I got the easy questions...I SO didn't. (That's what he gets for beating me in Scrabble....I'm so competitive now...)

*waking up at 3:45 AM to go shopping the day after Thanksgiving...wait...this one might qualify as "insane"... but yes, I really did wake up at 3:45, and we were at JCPenney's at 5:30, people. If you have never been one of the first 200 people in a department store the day after Thanksgiving, let me tell you : YOU GET A FREE SNOW GLOBE!! I did have lots of fun with Jacob's mom and aunts and sister, but I'm still not sure if the sales are worth getting up that early. During vacation. But hey, at least I did it once!

*Knitting on sock #2!

Almost finished!

Now that I understand socks, (as in, I understand about the heel flap and all that jazz, and I even think I could wing one without a pattern!) I think I want to make lots of them. Currently I'm looking for self striping yarny goodness that is on sale. Any suggestions?

*Celebrating Jacob's birthday yesterday! Woo-hoo! Here's us at a yummy Italian restaurant in Athens. That cute couple on the left is Jacob's parents.

Jazz hands!

This picture made me giggle because we look like we're posing for headshots with big old cheesy smiles. We had a nice dinner and drinks afterwards with Anne Marie, Joanna, Leslie, and Jacob's old friend Boyce. (Boyce was commenting on how weird it is to see Jacob on the internet when he looks at my blog, so HEY BOYCE, YOU'RE ON THE INTERNET TOO! He's in the Coast Guard ... I hope they don't care.)

So, it was a fabulous holiday extravaganza. And now I need a nap.

In other news, I have a plane ticket and I am San Francisco bound in December!! I'll be staying for a week and a half to attend to some pressing matters and do some research. (doesn't that sound official?) I plan to bring LOTS of knitting so I can finish up Christmas gifts and keep my hands busy on the horrible flight over. I HATE FLYING.

I am with you on the knitting-on-planes. It's the only thing that keeps my heart rate down! (And I also wanted to say you need to frame that picture of you and Jacob - very cute!!!)

Welcome to San Francisco, where yarn and cafes abound! In addition to Imagiknit and Art Fibers, there is also Atelier, Greenwich Yarns, and a new player on the yarn scene Paula Frazer (http://paulafrazer.com/html/handwovenhome.html). Cheers!

Wow! I can't believe people actually get up that early to go shopping!! Not me. :-)
Hope you got some great deals!

http://www.woolneedlework.com/Yarn/Regia_Ringel_Colors.shtml also has some great deals on self-striping sock yarn. their stock goes fast though! i linked to the regia page but they have others too. even though they're in Canada i've found their shipping to be quick. they do require a signature when getting the package though, so if you order from them make sure you send it to an address you know someone will be at when it gets delivered (or else the post office holds it hostage!)

I was gonna also mention that you (or we) should go to Imagiknit. Love that place...

Can't wait to meet THE Carrieoke! :)

You're going to love SF! I expect pictures, missy :-)

I have two skeins of Lorna's Laces Sheperd Sock in purple club, all ready to go for socks. I couldn't get into it because it was to slippery for me...wanna try it? It's all balled up, and the labels are gone, but you can't beat free yarn with a stick. Let me know!

I wanna see a picture of the free snow globe - that was definitely worth getting up at 3:45am for. They had to stop those crazy kind of sales in Australia (you know real diamond ring for $10 reduced from $10,000) coz people got killed and would turn up with helmets on!!!

Glad you had a great holiday!

yeah baby! rockin' the SF! or should i say knittin' the SF?! bring sweaters and a coat and a scarf and an umbrella. it's not just cold here but cold AND rainy. luck us.

Girl you betta let me know when you're going to be in SF, fool.

I hope you are recovering directly from your shopping bonanza because it's about time to go holiday shopping with me. Let's make a pact to NEVER EVER see 3:45 am unless we are coming home from some swanky Hollywood party. Jacob's parents are just in a whole other shopping league. I both fear and admire them.

Elann has "Sock It to Me Collection Colori" and it's $3.48 per ball.

Looks like it was a great Thanksgiving/Birthday!
My b-day was saturday...YAY for Sagitarians and late november birthdays!

Tell Jacob happy birthday--yay for Sagittarius boyfriends!

You're coming here?!?! Cool! Remember that it's cold here...everyone always think it's nice and warm but they have us confused with SOUTHERN CA! I'm guessing you're coming because of the music scene? Love the sock knitting...it's addicting, isn't it? I love using DK yarn for socks...knits up super fast! Elann has some cheap sock yarns...not sure if you'll like the colors. Never did the early morning shopping on black friday....but then again, I'm not a fan of crowds.

I think Yoda and Lucas need sweaters. Insanely cute, ridiculous sweaters. He he he. Torturing dogs through knitting, that's me.

Official biz in SF, huh? Sounds exciting, Carrie

Carrie

Tell Jacob happy birthday. If it was Sunday, we have the same day!

I'm an avid San Francisco knitter, although not a blogger (someday...) and would love to meet for a cup of tea and knitting. (Hopefully you won't find that too creepy..) Imagiknit and ArtFibers are fabulous (Imagiknit is scarily close to where I work so gets most of my income, and Creative Hands in San Carlos is SO friendly should your research find you in the Peninsula. Traveling mercies, whatever you do.

hmmmm...pressing matters AND research. That does sound very important :)

3:45 am for shopping? definitely insane

love the sock

p.s what miss fits said goes for me too!

Get in touch with Rachel while you're out there! Give her a big hug from me, even if she and I haven't met face to face.

Laura from beautiful West Michigan

Oh everyone is hooking you up with the cool yarn stores! What great readers! :)

Happy Birthday to Jacob!!

You guys are an adorable couple... aww....

if you need anything while in SF, we're here! you're gonna love it (although, i'm guessing you have been before...) - we have the low down since we've been here for a WHOLE six months (ha).

ps. u need an rss feed for your site so i can read it as soon as you post an update :) wheeeeeeeee.

You've always got the biggest smile in your pictures, it's very cute. Of course, when in SF, you HAVE to go to artfibers. It's so orgasmic, you'll go nuts.

Ooh, I love San Francisco -- you lucky thing! You know, there are lots of other knitbloggers in that neck of the woods...

Happy birthday to your wild and crazy boyfriend!

I'm from Sacramento and go to San Francisco. A great yarn shop to check out in San Francisco is called Imagiknit of San Franciso (www.imagknit.com) at 18th and Sanchez. It's a fantastic shop with tons of yarn. Hope you're able to check it out!
