Office Space
I'm working hard today. I promise.

See? I'm taking phone calls.
I have play rehearsal every night this week, which means that I leave work, go home, eat fast, go to rehearsal, get home at 11:00 pm or so, and go to bed. Yuck. This is the point in every play where I say: "Why am I doing this?" Of course it will all be okay when the show opens and I get to dance around and sing. La la la.
Luckily, I have a pretty small part in this play, so I have lots of backstage knitting time. Wanna see what I've been working on?

Purpley stripey goodness.
I love top down raglans. Have I mentioned that before? Here's a close up of the raglan part. I was originally looking at that yummy Phildar cardigan raye for the striping pattern, and then the sweater just took on a mind of its own. I'm using Lion Brand Microspun, acquired for $1 a skein at my local Hancock Fabrics (yay for clearance bins, and colors that no one apparently likes except for me and Mary Jessica.)
A knitting friend that I ran into today saw me working on this and suggested making a little longer and knitting some sort of belt/sash thing into it. I liked this idea...I may look into it. Hmm. Anyways, I love this sweater. Yay.
Oh, I did want to tell you about the play. It's a musical. It was written by a local woman. And it's the story of J. B. Murray, a seventy-year-old African American farm worker who believed that the Holy Spirit spoke to him and led him to paint. His son had him committed, thinking he was insane, but his paintings ended up being exhibited all over the world.
The story is pretty cool, and we're performing it in an art gallery where J.B.'s art is being displayed (with other Georgia folk artists). So, I'm hoping it's going to be a neat experience for the audience. We have three days left until opening and lots of work to do, so we'll see.
Rehearsal is making me tired and really sore, since I don't normally walk around in 2 inch heels. Send me lots of good energy vibes and break-a-leg vibes for opening night on Thursday...
Okay, I gotta go work now.

The sweater is pretty-interesting color combo!
When's your sister's wedding? Did you pick out a song to sing?
I'd like some advice-A friend wants me to teach her knitting to help improve her eye/hand coordination. She wants to make a scarf as a present for her mom, maybe.
Are #10 needles OK to use - the pattern called for size 19!-my experience with any needle over size 11 is they're too hard to cast onto & even harder to knit/purl the first row from! So I recommended a smaller size, especially since she's a newbie!

I love your top down raglans - I'll have to try one soon myself. The colors are great and the price is better. Break a leg in the play!

Love the colors in your raglan - they are so fun! What a great way to spend the backstage waiting time.

Your top-down raglan looks great! By the way, got a question: how or where do you do your colour switching? At the corners where the increases are? I wanted to make one with lacy YOs but to do the color switch, it seems to create a jog.
Any advice appreciated,
Em

Carrie,
don't want to bring up a crappy subject, but check out Teresa at One More Row and Another Latte to see what she has to say about the bite me chick.
ps, love your blog. You are so refreshing.

I think it's great you are doing a play. I know how time consuming they can be...I used to be quite a thespian in my day. I know you will be great.
I am going to be doing my very first top down raglan after I get all my xmas stuff out of the way...I'll be asking you plenty of questions if I get stuck! I love the microspun..do you like it?

You're hair is adorable. Is it a bit shorter in the back or something? I love it. I'm jealous.

Carrie, that is so awesome that you're doing that play. It sounds like a great story. I loved being in musicals in high school, even if I had a small part, I enjoyed watching the rehearsals and learning all the songs. It's a great feeling to be part of something larger than yourself like that.

The play sounds really interesting! I like the stripe pattern in your top-down, and the sweater looks very comfy.

Cute raglan, good colors, AND on sale?
We bow to thee, knitting warrior.

Raglan sweaters are my favorite kind! Super cute.
The musical sounds awesome and makes me want to come and see you in action! Break a leg in the most delightful way.

The play sounds awesome! :)
I think I will follow your lead and have work photos on my blog soon. It is cool to see people's workspace... don't you think? Let's start a trend!
I love that stripey raglan- I gotta try that pattern next!

Mared! Really I'm not swearing at you, when I was a dancer (eons and eons ago) that was what we'd say for good luck. So mared to you and I love the colors on that sweater.

your raglan is too cool (can you even say that any more, lol). the colors are great and i love how you worked the stripes. that tie idea sounds like a great idea. if you do that, are you going to leave slits on the side? can't wait to see what you decide.
your play sounds cool (is that the word of the day or what?) and a musical too! i just love 'em. sending good vibes your way!

I love the colors in your sweater - why can't I ever find yarn on sale?? Is J.B. Murray the same artist who has been shown at the High Museum? Wonderful stuff, if so. Have fun with the play.

I am sooo envious of your talents. In my next lifetime, I am going to be a singer, dancer and actor. Did you know that I took 8 years of ballet, tap, toe & a little jazz?
Good luck in your musical!!!! I'm sending good karma your way!

Good luck with the play, sweetie! You will be amazing- (as usual) I am sure. The sweater is nice! I like the color of the yarn, and what a steal for a dollar!

I can't believe you are so far on your raglan! (people, she only had a few inches done when I watched the debate with her a few days ago!) The striping turned out great. Have fun at play rehearsal...maybe you can stop at Hot Corner on the way and get some employee discounted caffeine.

The sweater looks cute, and the microspun should be very, very comfy. Break a leg (but not an ankle, please)!

That play sounds wonderful! Save me a seat! (You know I'd be there if I could...)
Your picture of working is very convincing. :)
