Big Easy

OH my goodness, I had such an amazing time in New Orleans. What do I tell you first? Oh, you probably want to know this:

I'm not the next American Idol.

But how can I be sad about that, when I got to spend three days in New Orleans with these girls??

even though it's 6am, we are happy girls!

Click on the extended entry to hear lots more about American Idol auditions, New Orleans and all the crazy people....

First of all, Sarah from One Stitch Short is seriously one of the coolest people I have ever met. I think there's a certain amount of bonding that occurs when you meet someone at 6 am and then immediately go stand in line with them for FIVE HOURS. But I couldn't have been more comfortable with Sarah and she is just SO FUN. We had such a blast. And of course Anne Marie is the number one person to bring when you are on a crazy adventure. Or if you just need to knit during lunch.

So Anne Marie and I left Athens at 9:00 pm (a little later then intended, caused by some frantic packing and a last minute search for picture id) and drove straight through to New Orleans. This was slightly insane and by the time we arrived at 5 am central time, I felt like an insane person for even attempting to do this. Our hotel was actually okay, thank God, although the elevator had no inspection certificates and had a sign that said "maximum capacity: 7 persons." Hmm.

We met Sarah at the room and we went straight to the Superdome to check out the scene (thus bringing no knitting, blankets or pillows. I mean, no one was supposed to line up until 6:00AM, so no one would be there, right? ha ha ha ha ha) Of course there were already like 2000 people there so we got in line. And there we stayed. For five more hours.

Wow, this is fun!

Once we finally, FINALLY made it into the Superdome, it was almost noon. We got a wristband and a ticket that secured us each re-entry into the Superdome and an audition. (Anne Marie got a guest wristband, and Sarah actually had to pretend she was auditioning in order to get in the building....) WE DID IT! WE'RE GONNA AUDITION FOR AMERICAN IDOL!!

Success!

And, joy of joys, we didn't have to come back to the Superdome until 3:30 am. So we had around 15 hours to eat, sleep, knit, eat again, sleep again, and then hurry up and go wait. And we did just that. After some naptime and yarntime, we headed over to Jacque-Imo's (upon the recommendation of Chris and Em (thank you girls, because we NEVER would have found it otherwise, and it was well worth the lovely trolley ride.) Here's some trolley shots:

our trolley met another trolley on the rail.

and, some Jacque-Imo's shots (this is some damn good Cajun food, people.)

inside was crazy and really cozy.

happy to get real food.

Okay, here's the part where I have to stop posting because I'm so tired and I have several knitting project calling my name. But I'll finish posting soon about the trip, I swear. All three of us kept wondering what was going on in blogland while we were away...it's nice to be back!

Oh, what great pics!!!! Looks like a blast (probably 'cause it was, lol) Can't wait to hear more. And you are an American Idol. They just can't have someone who is bigger than all them put together on the show just yet.

Aack, can't wait to hear more about your fabu trip! It looks like you had a blast!!

You are my American Idol, Carrie!!! :-)

sounds like a very fun trip! have a wonderful week!

Oh, my god! I can't wait to hear about the audition. I have a feeling that there's a screening process you have to go through before you even get to Simon, Randy and Paula, am I right? Because otherwise I am dying to hear what Simon said. And what song you sang. And what else you did in NO.

The funniest thing is that like Chris, I sat by the window in Jacques-Imo's, but on the other side of the door! Sigh...I need to go back there.

How fun that you and Sarah got to meet up! A lot of the girls in our group have now had a chance to meet face to face.... I love it!

Darn...It would have made Season 4 waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cooler if you'd been on "American Idol." They need a contestant that can knit! :-)

i will echo an earlier comment and agree that i would have actually watched american idol if you were going to be on there. but i guess we will all have to wait a little bit longer for you to be famous (outside of the knitblog world that is, since you're already famous within it).

i'm glad if not surprised that you had a fun time in new orleans, and i can hardly wait to hear about the rest of what happened.

i really admire you for your auditioning gumption. i will have to put my own karaoke plans on the front burner now that i am inspired by your example.

Ahhh!!! I have got to hear more!!!! I love the picture with you and the sign that says American Idol line- it is so perfect.

New Orleans is so much fun...especially with friends.I've been there like 3 times. My DH's business conventions were there. Glad you had a fun time.

i agree with susan! they'll be sorry yes they will! you rock!

and doesn't it suck when you forget to bring knitting and end up sitting somewhere for hours and hours (or like me the other day-- i remembered the knitting but not the instructions! ugh!)

I can just imagine, someday in the future, the Rockumentary / Behind the Music episode / whatchamacallit about you where they trot out the interesting factoid that for some weird reason you were not picked to be on American Idol, despite the consensus (in hindsight) being that you rocked the socks off every contestant that ever made it on the show. And it would be a question on Trivial Pursuit and stuff like that.

Mwah! I still think you should be the next American Idol and i can't wait to hear about the rest of your adventures!

Carrie, that is so cool! Don't worry, you will always be our idol!!!

Can't wait to hear the rest of the story.

What fun! I'm JEALOUS, I think all of the Monkeyknit girls will be.

Ohhhh, I'm so glad y'all made it to Jacque-Imo's! Hope it lived up to the expectations . . . it looks like you sat at the little table in the bar just inside the door, yes? Or maybe not. That's the table I had last time I went, and it made for some great people-watching!

I want to hear about the audition! Looks like you ladies had a great time. And I think this is one of the nicest things you could say about a friend:

"And of course Anne Marie is the number one person to bring when you are on a crazy adventure. Or if you just need to knit during lunch."

I am WAITING WITH BAITED BREATH to hear the rest. Can't wait to see you again! MJ

Welcome home, gals! What a whirlwind of fun y'all had! Can't wait to read more about your adventures....after you get some much-deserved shut-eye.

Have a great weekend!

You are such a tease...

:)

It is great to see you back! I think the consensus is that we all want to hear more about your adventures. I am going to New Orleans in November... can you tell me the cool places to go?? :)

Shame they didn't pick you, I'd have even *watched* the show if you'd made it! Can't wait to hear the rest of the trip story, sounds like so much fun.

Poo that you're not the next American Idol. Well, next time! They don't know what they're missing. :) Anyway, I can't wait to hear more...sounds like the whole thing was a dream experience!

So are you allowed to tell us about the screeners and judges? Did y'all knit in line or in the car at all? I'm glad you had a good experience in New Orleans. Where did you end up staying?

*sigh* New Orleans...I have always wanted to go there. Can't wait to hear about it all...

Well, as everyone here has already said, you rock! I cannot believe you posted so quickly after getting home! I couldn't even think straight that soon after I got back. :-) I'm just now beginning to recover. Thank goodness the weekend is within reach!

I wanna know what Simon said!

So bummed you're not the next American Idol, but so glad you're back! You'll always be our Idol baby! You must, I mean, must, tell us all the details. hint, hint: Simon....

You're making me long for New Orleans again... You guys look like you're having soooo much fun! I think they're crazy for not picking you! :) Get some sleep, then come back and blog!! :D

Oh we missed you -so glad you are back and that you had so much fun!

I can't wait to hear about the rest of your adventures!

Oh...you're killing me. I used to live in New Orleans, for my college years. Jacque-Imo's was the place we went for each friend's birthday, followed by music at the Maple Leaf down the street. Sniff, sniff, tear.

I'm glad you had a great time in my favorite city in the country.

You can't just stop the story there!!!!! AAAAAAAGGGGGGGHH!!! Oh, I guess you should sleep, but continue soon!
