Top Secret Knitting Project
So I reworked the Top Secret Knitting Project this weekend. I was about 5 inches into the No-Shaping version of the Chickami when I decided that I really needed shaping. So, I started the shaping as instructed in the pattern. Then I realized that you're supposed to start the shaping after about 1 or 2 inches and that my tank was going to be more of a tunic.
So, I ripped.
I undid the cast-on edge, undid 5 rows of ribbing (have you ever un-knit ribbing? umm, don't if you can avoid it), and ripped back probably 7 or 8 more inches of stockinette stitch. Then, I put my trusty Denise needles back in and knitted downward. I added four rows of a simple lace pattern right before where I wanted the tank to end, and I ended with two rows of seed stitch.
And I LOVE it! Yay!
I took a picture, but I'm trying not to reveal too much since the V. Lucky Recipient of this tank top might read my blog....

Lace can be fun!
Ooh, it's so stretchy and sheeny. The yarn, for all those who asked, is Paton's Katrina, on sale for $4.50 or so at Hobby Lobby right now. I believe I am using the Ocean colorway. Yum.
The mail was also very good to me yesterday. I got this:

Her name was Lola...she was a showgirl...
I cannot even tell you how yummy this yarn is. I'm almost afraid to knit with it because it's so luscious. It almost looks like really really thin strips of t-shirt ripped up to make yarn, but imagine the softest, prettiest t-shirt ever. Here's an even closer shot of the yarn texture: click me, baby. And where else does one get fabulous french yarn, but from a fabulous skinny rabbit in France? Thanks for the trade, Miss Becky!
Oh, and I had a gift certificate from a monkey friend of mine for a fabulous online yarn store and check out what I got with that:
Shiny pinky purply goodness.
Click for closer.
This yarn is destined to become a shawl or poncho, I can feel it. It's a thick and thin yarn, so maybe Paris Loop? Or maybe the Rowan Martini Poncho?** Oh, the choices are endless.
I'm a lucky yarn girl this week, I must say. Yahoo.
Knitting night tonight, with possibly FOUR new people! Oh my goodness!
It's my dear friend Valerie's birthday. Go wish her a happy happy!
**On a different note, FreckleGirl was trying to assist me in understanding how the Martini Poncho is assembled. Needless to say, we both had ...ahem....too much free time at work, and I was trying to fold paper to simulate poncho pieces, and this is what happened. Yes, that's a water bottle wearing a poncho. Do not try this at home. Giggle. Or, to quote Jess, gah!

Found you when I was searching for a link to the Rowan Martini Poncho. Love the poncho on the bottle! It took me forever to figure how to put it together and I had help from my friends at my new local knitting store. Thanks for the laugh.

Don't you just love your Denise needles? It's just like their slogan..."relax, we're all here". It makes it so easy to switch needles, and even creatively undo a project if necessary, like you did. The cami looks fabulous, too! You're a smarty. =)

Oh I've been looking for Patons Katrina! I don't have a Hobby Lobby though :(

Well, I think all waterbottles should wear ponchos...In fact we should start a mini-poncho along just so we can all be as fashionable...
And on a more serious note, I just love that Copa. Thanks for the super close-up. I had always wondered what the rage was about, and now I finally get it.

How are you liking the Patons Katrina? I keep looking at it, trying to decide whether to buy or not, and I just can't decide. I'm afraid it would stretch downward. I agree that it does feel yummy and stretchy!

I hate to tell you, but you're not the first person to use a water bottle as a poncho model! Check out the July 29th entry Bonne Marie Burns posted: http://www.chicknits.com/rambles/archives/week_2004_07_25.html
Great minds think alike, I suppose.

LOL i TOTALLY did the same thing for a friend because she didn't understand how the poncho pieces fit together, no joke. it was a pattern from hip to knit and she didn't understand the diagrams, so i basically did, well... you know what it looks like. too funny! (o, i did ok on the exam, btw. will cover in tomorrow's entry. too pooped from thinking so hard. must knit and get out of "test" mode. :-P)

YAY! You posted the water bottle poncho! :)
Love the beautiful new yarn! I haven't been able to take the picture of me in the martini poncho- Casey is still sick... I am livid because of an email I just got (posted a rant on my page) so I can't do it now. I will do it soon though, promise!
Hope you have a super duper knitting night! I am going to crash one of those parties sometime, ya know...

Oooh! I've never tried the knitting downward way of redoing something, but it looks like it worked splendidly for you! All that yarn looks yummy. And the bottle is wearing that poncho quite seductively, with one shoulder slipping off like that. Tres Flashdance.
