...Two Lost Souls...

Meet Leroy and Sal!
So last night Anne Marie came over to knit and me and her and Jacob were all hanging out. Jacob wandered outside to feed the dogs and do some stuff. Suddenly, he comes back into the house, saying: "There are weiner dogs in our front yard!" And sure enough, we all went running outside and there were these two little dachshunds, hanging out in our front yard. No collar or tags. We called them and they came running up to us, jumping up in our laps, licking our faces. They are SCHMOOS. We drove around, asking around to see if any of the neighbors had lost them, but to no avail. Here they are hanging out with Anne Marie!
So they are homeless schmoos!!
Well, not anymore. We've called all the pounds and put in found notices, put an ad in the paper, and we're hanging up signs. But, if we can't find their owners, we're going to get these little guys adopted! Anybody want two dachshunds? They are the sweetest little doggies, so well-behaved, and we gave them both flea baths last night and let them sleep in the kitchen. Of course Bella and Chili are a little curious, but we figure that our two schmoos can stay outside for a little while since they always have a good home, and Leroy and Sal obviously don't. :( And yes, we named them Leroy and Sal. And yes, Sal is as fat as he looks in that picture. And Jacob already said we can't keep them...I tried. (But I know we can't really afford four dogs anyways!)
Schmoos! Yay!
Okay, now for the knitting content. Wanna see a finished felted bag?

The Amazing Technicolor Dream Bag
Wool scraps are fun. I made a little black strap with some leftover black wool, and it's a perfect size for all my crap that I tote around. I need to shave the furriness off of the bag, but it's a keeper. Yessiree. Ooh! I swatched for Polka Purl Dots, and I got spot-on gauge! Even the row gauge! Obviously it's meant to be. Then I read the first line of the pattern: "With smaller needles, cast on 210 stitches." Oh, boy. Here goes!
Okay, now I have to show you a picture of Bella and Chili too. Just because they were two lost souls once too.

Two little found schmoos
Aww. I love my doggies, all four of them right now. Cross your fingers that we can find a good home for the weiner dogs.

I just love the idea of someone running up and yelling, "We've got weiner dogs!" It's like a Gary Larson cartoon, yep, sorry to say ma'am, looks like it's weiner dogs. Very cute, and I hope they come back to live next door.

Love your color combo on the bag, Carrie. Very pretty.

Rarf! Love those dawgs! You're going to keep 'em, I can just tell. Them's destiny dawgs . . .
Your bag is darlink. Way to recycle/reuse whatever!

I think those two doggies must have known whose yard they were in. I hope someone didn'tjust dump them. They are too precious, as are your two schmoos. What a happy household!

Good lord -- wild weiner dogs?! Too cute. I hope you find their old home or a great new home for those two weiner schmoos (or... "weinoos"?).

You have a nice big place and of course you can keep them!
Hope you find their owners or a good home for them. I surely hope someone didn't just "dump" them - they are too cute!
What a good person you are Carrie!

Dang, I wish I didn't live on the entire other coast from you! I'd take those weiner dogs in a heartbeat!

Your doggies are so cute. I wish I had one. I have a standard poodle, but I really want a small dog. Like a pug.

I love your bag! And I think it's great what you're doing to help those dogs find a home. You are such a kind soul.

Just a cute schmoo story: We were at the beach last night for over an hour, and there was a black lab swimming laps in the ocean *the whole time.* My dog ran and played, and that black lab just kept going baaaack and forth. We were convinced he was going to drown, but his owner came around and insisted this was "normal" behaviour. Riiight.

Leroy and Sal have to be the best names for weiner dogs ever! If I were in the area and my cat wouldn't chew them to pieces (she's a tuffie!) I'd love to take them in. How could anyone just dump them... sooo cute!

Awwwww! They are gorgeous!! My neighbor has 2 dachshunds .... (sweetie and nikka) and he used to have two more when I was little, who passed of old age (heidi and gretchen)... oh, and my godparents had one too, named sammy. What a dachshund filled life I lead, eh? Best of luck in finding a loving home for these two lovely pups.

I already miss Leroy and Sal!
The camera adds 10 pounds, right? So me and Sal really aren't that big, right?

Cute dogs! You're such an angel for putting so much effort into finding their original owners before you put them up for adoption!
About the Polka Purl dots ... I remember Brainylady Alison mentioning there is a correction on Interweave.com about the cast on. You might want to check it out before you start.
Happy Wednesday!

I love the bag...it's very cute! What kind of straps did you use?
We had a weinerdog growing up and he looked just like Leroy! His name was Petey. If I was near you, I would adopt both of them (I'm in Maryland)! Wienerdogs have great personality! and they (ours) was good with kids!

Ooooh, look how sweet they are! I wonder if they've been abandoned? Some people do that, especially before leaving on vacation if they can't find anyone to take care of the dogs. [Wish someone would get people like that and tie them to a lamppost for a week without food. See how they like it!] If I weren't across the ocean and in an apartment, I'd adopt those two in a sec.
Your felted bag is definitely amazing. It came out great!

Oh, what adorable little schmoos (the weinerboys and your babies, so sweet!). Best, best wishes in finding Leroy and Sal their proper home (with new or old owners...who knows!). Hubby also has banned me from taking in any more pets (though when I see a pup running around looking lost, I always ask, "Do you need a new home? You're coming home with me!" Doesn't always work...their owners look at me like I'm some kind of abducting fool).
Super cute bag!!

Even though Alan's pit bull rescue bit me in the face on Saturday (for details...see my blog) I am ok with the fact that there are two random dogs in your house. That is very kind of you to take them in. They ARE schmoos. What cuties!

The bag is so pretty! How are you going to close it? I can't tell if you have put in a zipper? Button? I'd love to see it when you have the strap on it too.

AHHHHHHH! I love weiner dogs! They are so adorable. I'd come over and play with them if I could. I hope they find good homes.
And your technicolor bag looks really great. Love those colors together.
:)

Aww, poor lost puppies! They have to have owners, especially chubby Sal.
I am not allowed to even look at homeless puppies, because we'd soon have dozens of dogs running around. Our two schmoos are enough (not to mention the two cats)!
Enjoy the extra pups while you have them :o)

your schmoos are cute, too.

Your first mistake was naming 'em. Now you're attached. :-) Hopefully, they come from a wonderful home and it was some sort of freak accident that wound them up on the street, then it will be easier to say goodbye! Hope you find their home! It reminds me of the credit card commercial with the lost dog...have you seen that one?

8 extra canine feet running around! Hee hee hee! What fun!
Bag looks wonderful, too!

LOVE the colors in the bag!!

Holy cow. I don't think I've ever seen 4 cuter schmoos in one post! I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding homes for Sal and Leroy. Everyone loves weinerdogs, don't they?
Posted by adrian | June 29, 2004 3:58 PM
Well, it doesn't look like either of the dachs are malnurished (unless those grossly distended tummies are from eating garbage!), I hope you find homes for them. Hopefully they weren't just dropped off into your neighborhood, in which case, better to find new homes than have them go back to a bad home!

Those doggies are so adorable. I especially like Fat Sal. Remember, Jacob said you can't keep them....
In other news, your bag is so cute! It's for me, right? :)
