Rainy Days and Fridays

Jacob at Athfest, looking pensive in the sunlight.
This was taken at my show at Athfest. Jacob always looks so intense in pictures. In real life, he's a v. silly schmoo.
It's Friday! This has been another stressful week at work (which I think may have played a part in Wednesday's stomach fiesta) and I also worked 3 nights waiting tables. So I have some bags under my eyes that are ready to be erased by some rest and relaxation. Yahoo! I do have to wait tables on Saturday, but I fully intend to bring my knitting and chill between tables. If it's slow, that is.
I'm so glad you liked Grape Twist! The neckline is awesome, isn't it? Well, knit one yourself -- Just click here for the pattern! I got gauge with size 13s and the Berroco Pronto, although it's kind of a loose knit. Not loose in a revealing way, but very summery. (I'll tell you a secret if you promise not to hate me....I really don't care about row gauge usually. I know, I know! It's awful. But normally I just pay attention to the stitch gauge. So when I say 'I got gauge' it probably means that the stitch gauge is right on and the row gauge is darn close. This comes from reading Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitting Without Tears.)
What's in store for this rainy weekend? Well, I'm hoping to finish my Amazing Technicolor Dream Bag, although I'm running out of bright and obnoxious wool scraps. I guess that means it's time to bind off and felt! I think I'm probably going to follow Anne Marie's brilliant lead and use a wine cork for a button on the bag. Hopefully mine will be as cute as AM's. (Check out her cute felted flower too!)
Currently, I'm working on a new look for the blog, and I really want some kind of clever tagline for my banner. "Carrieoke's Knitting Blog" isn't exactly the work of creative genius but I kinda like it, so I'm going to keep it for now. But I'd like to add a tagline to replace Hip Knits Since 2003, ya know, just to spice things up. One of Jacob's suggestions was "Knit 'Til You Bleed" ....ummm, I don't think I can come up with a clever banner for that. I discussed it with one of the cooks at work last night and together we came up with "Fertilizing the Hate Blossom" , which doesn't really describe my blog or what I stand for at all. We just thought it was a kind of cool saying. "Kind of cool" meaning ridiculous.
(As a side note, at the bar where I wait tables, there is a computer in the back that plays all our music. It's a PC with Microsoft Word on it, and for some reason one day, someone started writing haikus about the bar and saved the document. So people have kept adding haikus, and now there's this 10 page document with a bunch of haikus about Molly O' Shea's, with titles like "My Haiku About the Honey Mustard" or "My Haiku about Tex Hating Me". How bizarre is that??)
Okay. I digress. The point is, can you help me think of a clever tagline? Or at least, give me some ideas to start on? Or, just have a good weekend. Either way, I will blow you a kiss now. Mwah!!!

I love AM's idea...Carrieoke and the City...also like all the schmoo ideas - of course! What about "Peace, Love and Knitting"? Can't go wrong with Elvis!

Hey Carrie, about that shawl, it's pretty hard (at least for me) since I've never worked with lace or anything like that, and also because the yarn I'm using is very airy you have to keep an eye on it to make sure it goes where it's s'posed to!! i'm using baby alpaca from onefineyarn.com... do not fear though! if you knit it right, it looks mah-velous and feels good too :l I wanted to try this 'cause I needed a challenge

Hi,
You wrote a comment on my blog that you could probably help me. How did you get your buttons up????????? I think I know where to get the URL or whatever you call it, but I just don't know where to put it in my template.

Hmm...taking off from everyone's fabulous "schmoo" theme, how about "Schmoos with the best." A take off from schmooze (sp?)!
Okay, I'm a dork. :)

ayeayeaye!! carrie, your site is the gosh-darned cutest out there! it makes me happy when i read it. i read your "about me" list and although i am not catholic and have never called a dog a "schmoo", i do spell EVERYTHING correctly (pretty much), i have colitis too (bummer), and i can taste the sweet success of a yarn shop not too far away... ahh, friendly bloggers are what makes the internet a happier place :D

I have never worried about row guage either. I mean, it really is like the great EZ says, What are you going to do to change it? If you change your needles, you'll get a different stitch guage, too. I find it much less stressful to just knit until I get the appropriate measurements rather than freak out about something as stupid as row gague. (I can see the knitting gods preparing to smite me as I say this.)
As for a creative tag line, I'm kinda fond of "knit till you bleed"!

Hip schmoo since 2003

To further support my suggestion, I would just like to remind you that on more than one occasion I have overheard you and Jacob carrying on entire conversations with each other for minutes at a time by saying the word "schmoo" to each other in varied vocal inflections and durations.
"Schmoo" is the new "Spleen!"

You know how people always describe things like furniture and paintings with the phrase "simple, yet elegant..."???
I think that sentiment applies here with the tagline.
Therefore, I recommend that your tagline read, simply...
"SCHMOO."

I KNOW this is cutie-pie, but:
"Knitting in Schmooville since 2003"
ok, should I apologize now, or later?

How 'bout Carrieoke and the City. Ha! Can't wait to see your felted bag. I'm curious how the shiny non-feltable stuff will look.
Have you worn your grape twist out yet?
