Knitting Night

Yesterday was a crazy day. Jacob woke up with the worst headache pain I've ever seen a person have and called in sick to work (which he NEVER does). He actually threw up from the pain. I know that's gross, but damn! I've never had a headache like that before. So that started my day, and of course I immediately started worrying that it was something horrible like a tumor. (It turned out to be a really bad sinus headache.)

And then, there's work. Work this week is *crazy*. I feel like I'm doing as much work each day as I normally do in an entire week. It's the end of the fiscal year, contracts need signing, etc. etc. So I was running around like a crazy woman delivering things and getting things signed and all the while worrying in the back of my head about Jacob (I actually even snuck away for 30 minutes and checked on him. That's the beauty of living in Athens -- you can actually drop by home in 15 minutes or less!)

So, when I finally came home and plopped down on the couch, all I really wanted to do was knit and watch Law and Order. And so I did. I called Anne Marie and she came over as well...... (speaking of Anne Marie, she has just entered the knitting blog world!! Check her out at AM's Blog of Knitting and Stuff. She is not only a knitter, but about to get her Ph.D. in genetics and a damn fine karaoke singer. And she has an adorable schmoo named Petey. If you want to see the beautiful Sophie bag she just knitted and the tiny sweater she's almost done with (it's smaller than a flip-flop! Really! Her blog has proof!), then you'd better go over there. It's cool, I can wait for ya!)

Are you back? Hi again! So we had a blast knitting and watching Law and Order. Jacob sat quietly and recovered from his headache misery...although he did exploit my obsessive fears and worries about him so I'd go get his pizza. Shameless.

Here's what I was working on last night:

Carrieoke and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Bag!

It's kinda crazy, I know. I started with the pattern from Weekend Knitting that calls for you to use all your wool scraps (so I guess this qualifies as my Scrap-Along project! Yahoo!) but I wanted a bigger bag, not just a little zipper clutch. So I'm using 13s and it's looking...umm...interesting so far. I think I will like it a lot better when it's felted. I'm not sure about the colors (you probably can't tell from this picture, but we've got green, pink, black, blue and others on it. Crrraaazzy!!!!! but hopefully it will felt into a beautiful rainbow stripey Dream Bag. Ha! I added some novelty yarn in there occasionally for sparkle and fun.

There are other projects in the works, I think, just not sure what yet. I will maybe decide tonight!

**okay, literally, I just fell asleep at my keyboard while typing this entry. I looked up and there was all this jumble on my screen, like hjla io;n irol; like I was trying to finish my entry and couldn't. Whoa, do I need sleep.

But here are some of the projects I am considering, and yes, they are for me. I'm so selfish.
Polka Purl Dots, Spring Interweave Knits 2004
Irene, a free Berroco pattern
Cherry Twist, free Knitty Pattern

Which do you like?

Carrie:

How did you make the cowl neck on the Funnel Sweater? I'm working on that now & would like to try!

Thanks!

I must do that Cherry Twist pattern. I have had my eye on it since it was first published, but your other choices are fab too. The colors on your dream bag are great! Love that combo!

Wow! I guess everybody loves PPD! I have to admit I'm particular to Cherry. I've made 2 for myself (with yarn I got on super-sale). Then my sister liked it so much that I had to make her one for her birthday. Plus, you can knit it really fast cause you're using big honking needles...

I have seen Oh Teo's Polka Purls also, very cute! I do know that there is an Errata on IK's website for the sweater...go for it

I feel honored you are asking for votes.

POLKA DOTS!!

Polka Dot Purls as that sweater is darling and would look great on you. Glad to see who won the blogwars. Stay cool.

I love the technicolor dream bag! I just saw that pattern in Weekend Knits this week, but I like your idea of super-sizing a bit. Can't wait to see it all finished!

Polka purl dots, definitely :)

Polka Purl Dots!

I'm looking forward to seeing that bag felted up. Love the title you gave it!

I would go for polka purl dots... I can't say I like Irene... but ppd is super cute!!! Oooh, and another Law and Order fan??? Which one do you watch??? I'm an SVU girl, myself. Woot!

i like the PPD but i think the pattern is written a little confusingly. i like the cherries second. go check out the links i posted tonight, you will love them. smooches to you and the schmoos.

Hi there Carrie...I vote for PPD, too. Last night I was watching Law and Order while casting on for the Cables and Lace cardigan from Elann.com. Isn't L&O great for knitting? Hope Jacob is better today...

Abigail from Oh Theo! (on my blogroll) recently finished Polka Dot Purls. Go for it!

cherry twist is my vote and the colors on your technicolor bag are lovely! that combo is great!

Polka Purl Dots is cute, but Veronik Avery's patterns are so ridiculously confusing.. Well, maybe you can make sense of it.

Glad Jacob's feeling better. When my migraines were diagnosed, I was worried about a tumor too but the Dr. told me that brain tumors almost NEVER produce headaches, usually weird little balance and posture things are the tip off, but pain not so much.

I like the colors of the Technicolor Dream Bag!

Hey! I love PPD the best. We thought of you last night - watched Family Guy episode that spoofed "Annie" movie - Peter inherits rich aunt's mansion and sings to tune of "I Think I'm Going to Like It Here"...new words are "MG This House Is Freaking Sweet"...also included "Used to pass--lots of gas---Lois got real mad". Hee hee makes me laugh..also Stewie ordered servants to duel to death and cut his milk. I love Family Guy....

polka purl dots! :-)

PPD! The wraparound part looks interesting; and the purly dots add great texture.

Dots! That would look so cute on you.

Both Irene and Polka would look fantastic on you. I mean, they all would, but those especially. And Irene would take no time at all, so I say start both Irene and Polka at the same time. There.

Throwing up from headaches is so scary. When I had my first bout with migraines, that's what happened to me, and I, too, was convinced I had a tumor. Had a CAT scan and everything. Went around for weeks afterward Ahnolding "It's not a TUMAH!"

mmmmmm... Irene...

i am psyched to see the finished bag i bet it will be byoooootiful!
also i vote for the dots.

My vote goes for Polka Purl Dots...Very cute!

My votes goes for Polka Purl Dots...Very cute!

POLKA PURL DOTS!!!!

I knit during Law & Order too!!! The afternoon re-runs on TNT!! (that and Judging Amy -- I work nights)

Anyway, my vote is for Cherry Twist. Not a fan of Irene really, but the Polka Dot one is cute too!

I like the polka purl dots, wrappy things are fun!

I love polka purl dots--I'm planning on making it sometime myself (hopefully this summer)!

I love reading everyone's comments, because I'm just reminded that everybody's got their own opinions! I personally like everything about Irene BUT the straps - I think they should be about half that wide.

But my fave is the Polka Purl, then Cherries... and there's absolutely nothing wrong with selfish knitting. Trust me.

Polka Purl Dots! (Except give it to me when you're done!!-- Just kidding)

Oh I'd go for the Polka thing also. Hey, I love knitting to Law and Order too. Knitting to JAG is my favorite though...good and mindless!

I like the Polka Purl Dots. I like the neckline on the Very Cherry, but I think the bottom makes the model look fat.

Just OWO -- One Woman's Opinion!

I really don't like Irene at all (I always was the odd duck), but maybe it's just because my stomach isn't flat enough to pull it off :)

My fave is Cherry Twist, followed closely by Polka Purls.

For what it's worth :)

Polka Purl Dots, closely followed by Cherry Twist!

Also, I can relate to the headache throwup (poor Jacob) and the falling asleep while writing. Hope you catch up on rest and your fella there feels better soon!!

Love that cute dogs are called Schmoos!

I would definitely go with the Irene- maybe a bit longer though?! I like the straps on it.

I hear you with the end of the damn fiscal year... sucks big time. I can't wait for July 1.

My strappy tank is calling me... :)

Polka Purl Dots, Spring Interweave Knits 2004!!!
It looks very "smooth"....although I really like the colors on "Cherry"...Whichever one you choose, I'm sure it'll look FAB-O!

I like polka purl dots. :)

I've been admiring the "cherries" ever since they made their debut in Knitty. I'm going to get around to knitting one or both at some point in my life.

I was thisclose to starting Irene myself, in fact I still might! I too am looking (selfishly?) for a tank pattern that can be made with the limited amount of berroco cotton twist I have on hand...but what's the yarn you'll use??

hello IRENE!!!! i must find that pattern NOW.
