I Remember All My Life...

my twin sis Cathy and her little schmoo Molly

Countdown to beach time: 2 days.
Number of schmoos coming: 2 (Foxy and Molly, my sister's dogs. My schmoos get to stay at home and guard the homestead.)

ohmygoodness I need this vacation so badly. I closed at Molly's on Sunday (a favor for another waitress) and I made ONE DOLLAR in tips. No, really. I worked from 7:00 - 12:30. But hey, I got a lot of knitting done! Sorry I haven't posted in a couple of days. I keep meaning to take pictures of my progress on the Honeymoon Cami (I just have the front left side and back left side to go!) but someone took the batteries out of my camera and put them in the remote control. And no, it wasn't Bella.

I finally got the issue of Vogue Knitting with the fabulous strappy tank on the cover. I already swatched and cast on using my Phildar Licorne (perfect gauge! it was meant to be ), and I am freaking excited about this top. I've actually never gotten a Vogue Knitting before, and I liked a lot of the patterns in the mag. There were some freaky things, don't get me wrong, but the cute outnumbered the freaky, which is not always the case in knitting magazines.

Do you like the new look? I'm still deciding. It's a really dark shade of red, but I needed something different. If you miss the blue, just click on 'check out the skins' (on the left sidebar) and you can go back to that one.

This weekend Jacob decided to have a little party with some of his old friends from college. So we bought some beer and had a small and rather strange gathering of people at our house. My favorite part of the night included sitting at the piano playing 'Mandy' while my friends Leslie and Natalie sang along. ('You came, and you gave, without taking...and I want you to know....')

Jacob also built a fire pit in our yard (we have a LARGE yard, 2 acres!) so eventually we all ended up around the fire, singing along to someone's guitar. It was really fun, it was just a strange mix of all the social groups I've been a part of from college to now. Do you know what I mean? Like, you know these people would probably never cross paths if they weren't together at your house.
I guess that's a really cool thing.

I have been working on being the number one maid of honor in THE WORLD by helping Cathy reserve hotel rooms for her wedding and also drawing up a map on Photoshop that we can put in the "Save the Date" cards. This whole maid of honor thing is new to me, so I'm trying not to shirk any of my responsibilities. I think I might need a So-You're-A-New-Maid-of-Honor handbook. Do those exist?

Now I'm rambling. Tomorrow, I promise, I will have pictures of a hopefully completed honeymoon cami. I'm really that close.

AMERICAN IDOL FINALE IS TONIGHT! are you as excited as I am?

Hi Carrie! I found your blog via a comment at Oh Theo and I had to marvel that someone else out there calls cute little pooches "Schmoos!" We call my parents' terrier mutt (think, Benji but smaller and with blonde highlights like he is some kind of surfer). Congrats on maid of honor duties. I have yet to do MOH duty, so I cannot offer advice. I've just perused your 100 things list and found a lot that apply to me. Are you sure you weren't triplets?

The only real duty of a maid of honour is to make sure the bride's head doesn't explode with stress. I'll go out on a limb and guess that since you guys are southern, she's probably having a big fancy wedding? There will be a lot of stress. Remember, don't let her head explode!

Hi, I have a random question: did you get gauge with the Cotton Fleece for the Chevron tank? Also random, didn't Fantasia's last dress tonight look a lot like a Sophie with the twisted straps?!

First things first, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Fantasia! I like to TiVo AI so that I can just cruise through the commercials. I'm watching Oprah from yesterday right now, but I'll turn on AI in a few minutes... Oooh, the suspense!

Secondly, I'm sure you are the best maid of honor ever! As a new bride who is *still* planning a wedding reception, I speak from experience when I say that any little thing that you can take over and take off the bride's plate is soooo helpful. Try to remember the little things so that she doesn't have to stress too much. I'm sure everything you're doing is being greatly appreciated.

And last, but not least, I can't wait to see all the tanks you're working on, little Miss Speedy Knitter! :)

Well, I decided to leave a comment even though I always lurk and never comment...you are a fabulous maid of honor! I'm (I least I don't think I am)not a bridezilla, but I am anxious-stressed-out-high-strung Cathy. Which is enough to deal with. All of us Cokers are nervous types.

But luckily, you are very much like me, so you understand my neuroses. (That rhymes.)So you are GREAT!!

So twin sis, thank you bunches for the map and the hotel stuff, but oh, my god, take that nasty picture of me down!!!! Pretty please?

I've been a lurking reader of this blog for a while, greatly enjoy it.

Anyways, I wanted to let you know that there IS in fact a guidebook to being a maid of honor! A woman in my office has it, I was looking through it one day. It explains different maid personality types, gives suggestions for shower games, dress stuff, etc. I don't remember the title but you can probably find it on Amazon. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do a great job with it with or without a guide!

That party kinda reminds me of your birthday last year where at the end of the night, it was me and Richard Vinyl finishing off the keg, sitting on the floor, singing disco songs to you through the karaoke machine even though you had already gone to sleep (because it was carrieoke's birthday!). And then his girlfriend walked in and thought I was a karaoke whore... whoieee! Bizarre, but fun times.
I like Jacob's friends - they're fun! I bet you guys had a great party. I MISS YOU GUYS!!!

The party sounds fun...so I guess it didn't rain afterall :)
Your sophie bag inspired me, I've started on one.
Oh, and you sound like a great maid of honor. Nobody really knows exactly what to do, except hold the bouquet. Somebody oughta make a pamphlet or something. What time is American Idol on (hint hint)?

I love the color and new masthead...Is Chili is jealous! :)

Your blog looks great! I like the red, dramatic but not too bright. I like your masthead as well.

Weddings--kudos for doing the map as well! I was maid-of-honor for my sister's wedding and apart from the invitations, I designed everything for them: save the date cards, maps, programs, menus, table cards, I wrote out 200 addresses in calligraphy for her. Eight years later and she still thanks me for those. It's the little things that count.

I got a wedding invitation not long ago (well, it was just for the reception since the couple had a really tiny ceremony far away, but you get the idea) where a tiny version of a map from mapquest or yahoo or someplace was included, printed on vellum, with the little "Yahoo maps" or whatever in the corner. I don't mean to be a snot, but ick! It just seems kind of half-assed. I mean, I can look it up on the web myself, and choose the web site I think is the best. And it was really hard to read this teeny pixelly map on the semi-transparent paper.

So, good for you taking the time and trouble to make a nice map in Photoshop. I think it will be worth the effort.

I also know what you mean about the effect when you have people over who would never meet each other if it wasn't for you. I call it "worlds colliding." It's especially interesting when you're part of a couple, because it expands your social scene in unprecedented ways and makes for even more interesting world-collisions.
