Hump Day.

I love yarn. Just like my mommy.

It's Wednesday. I'm sleepy again, and I need breakfast. Grr. Send milk and cereal.

Last night Anne Marie came over and we watched American Idol and knitted. American Idol was highly entertaining, as usual. It was Barry Manilow night... (and Ryan Seacrest kept making comments about how hot Barry was...umm, Barry Manilow is NOT hot. Especially to teenagers watching the show.) I thought almost everyone sounded good last night, except for George Huff and poor little John Stevens. Ick.

But the knitting! Anne Marie was working on a critter blanket for the excellent Critter Knitter Knit-A-Thon. And she had such a great idea...she's taking a dishcloth pattern and just knitting it on huge yarn and needles. Duh, why didn't I think of that? What a great way to make a blanket that looks cool and is fun to knit. I'm totally doing that with some Homespun this week.

I worked on the tank. and here are some pics to prove it to you.

the tank parts
ready to be seamed!

here's the tank
being blocked.

I messed up the finishing...again...at the shoulder seams. Grr. Please remind me to knit my next project in the round. Puh-leeze. Now the tank is blocking, and I'm still deciding what to do about the front. Right now, it's like a little cardigan, and I want to wear it as a tank top. The pattern says to use chocolate brown yarn to do a lace up thing on the front. What do you think? Lace up, or some other closure in front? I can't decide. Help me.

After seaming through The Daily Show and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, I decided (at midnight) to organize my yarn. I should have taken a pic...but my stash has been reduced to about 5 large Ziploc bags. Not a whole lot, people. I'm gonna be running out of yarn real soon...I'm already saving up for next month. Well, I'm planning on saving up for next month.

Part of my yarn shortage problem is that I'm broke. I'm meeting (well, over the phone) a credit counselor today to get some help with some of my financial issues. One day, I would love to be happy and debt free and rich and famous. It's possible, right? Right?????

1. Schmoo!!

2. Nice lookin' tank, there, missy!

3. I cannot BELIEVE Jennifer's gone at this point. Though I did like the mild smackdown the judges gave America: "People. Stop voting off the ones who actually have talent."

4. Of course it's possible.

I can relate to the money woes, I think it is really sad that when my parents were in Florida and asked me what I wanted for a souvenir, I said yarn! I am obsessed, and totally can't afford it. I am reading a new book that was recommended by a friend who has been super successful with money & prosperity after reading it, and following the directions. It seems corny, but I am following the first step, and I figure if this works, then who cares if it is corny! It is called: I am rich beyond my wildest dreams, I am, I am, I am...by Thomas Pauley
Happy Knitting!

Ah, Miss Bella looks so adorable curled up!

Tank suggestion: What about a really cute ribbon of some type instead of yarn...it would make it look a bit more feminine. The tank looks great though...you're just cranking things out lately!

I agree with Laura; be careful who you go to. I know there are some non-profit ones that friends have gone to and they have been good...but it's wise to check-out the ones that charge fees. Keep hanging in there!

Tank is looking good! Blocking is such a bore! - I hate to block but it is a necessary evil!! *G* I have been knitting more in the round lately - it is great not to have the sewing up process. VIVA CIRCULAR KNITS *G*

My mom keeps telling me after the kids are all out of the house (the last two are graduating this year from high school) we will be rich! Somehow, I don't think it will happen. Word of advice... be VERY careful who you go with in credit counseling and monitor what they are doing VERY carefully. You should try to find one who will help you work out a budget or strategy for your money, not just renegotiate and pay your bills. They are not all on the up and up, and I've heard that creditors look down on someone using them, it doesn't help your credit. We went with one about five years ago, and we paid a monthly fee and I believe that instead of paying down the debt as quick as they could to help us out, they paid it down as slow as they could so they could keep getting that fee. Creditors will usually work with you personally if you call them. Sometimes you just have to really push them to work with you, but most will. I wish you luck on your financial journey!

I love the caption on schmoo's picture :-)

Sometimes, I feel the need to calm myself when I hit the yarn sales because I really go bonkers. Not because I think it's bad to collect yarns, but because I only have two knitting hands! But I love yarn and enjoy adding to the stash, so I do it following the basic rule: No more stashing up on FRENCH yarns unless they're on sale or being discontinued. Everything else is okay for stashing :-)

I don't have much stash either. Just a rubbermaid tub full. I'm poor so I don't buy much either.

My suggestion for the tank is to do loops with cute or funky buttons. Little I-Cord loops maybe...stitched on one sides and buttons on the other??

But then again...I'm a button freak.

hmmmm...I think the tank is more effective in its simple form...adding the brown in the front might be a little much for my taste. But the tank already looks so beautiful. very cool.
sorry, I feel like butt today and i don't want my sickness to infect your blog!
so really all I wanted to say is I think the tank looks really pretty as it is, and anything added can only make it different, not worse. :)

So...will you come over and organize my yarn stash? I keep buying yarn and not using what I have...AAH. Did you crochet around the armholes of your tank? I looks so pretty blocking :)

i say "i will buy you a lucet at maryland if you want to make a little cord of the same yarn to use for the lace up." (god that looks small compared to susan's.)

I know the feeling! I went through my "stash," such as it is, the other day. After I pulled out some totally useless acrylic crap I've had for years and will never get around to using, I found I had a good-sized plastic bag full of odd bits, two skeins of yarn I'm using to make socks for my sister, and aside from that everything I had was for almost-finished projects (things that just needed sewing up, etc.) and things I'm currently working on. I probably won't finish all the things I'm working on now for at least another month or two, but after that I'll need more yarn. It's not because I'm really disciplined about not letting yarn clutter up my space or something--I just can't afford to buy as much yarn (or pattern magazines, books, etc.) as I might like to.

It's kind of weird reading knitting blogs where people talk about their insane stash or going on a yarn diet or all the yarn they bought this weekend or whatever. On one hand, it can be fun to enjoy some vicarious stash-enhancement. And other people's overgrown stashes and yarn-diet efforts make me thankful I don't have TOO much yarn. But it can also be kind of alienating when I'd like to shop for new stuff but I just can't afford it. People sometimes say "my stash is so big I could knit for a really long time and not have to buy anything" as if it's a bad thing, but I would love to be in that position! All that having been said, I definitely wouldn't want the people whose blogs I read to be self-conscious about describing their stash, yarn purchases, etc., and I never feel like people are intentionally bragging or being insensitive. But it's also nice when people talk about having to budget yarn purchases more carefully or NOT having a big stash. Your talking about it makes me feel less like a weirdo in the knitting blogosphere where it sometimes seems like everyone can afford big piles of fancy yarn.
