Spongebob HomespunPants

Here are my No-Sweat Pants in all their fuzzy glory:

pantsone.jpg

comfy and cozy am i!

I knitted these in the round instead of flat, and I think it did affect the shape of the pants - they are pretty much straight old tubes down my legs. Also, I should have knitted the size medium probably....Homespun pants should not be snug. They should be loose and flowy. But, they are super comfortable, and I slept in them last night, and I love them. I think I will wear them around the house a lot.

Jacob thinks they are hysterical. Every time I ask him how I look, he giggles and says "You look like you have goat legs!" before running into the other room laughing. Perhaps they are not a fashion for everyone. (In Jacob's defense, they are very fuzzy.) But dang, I knitted some pants! Yahoo!

ATTENTION: GIRLY COMPLAINING AHEAD.

This weekend, I went shopping and tried on jeans. Now, it has been awhile since I've tried to buy new jeans, because I have had two beloved pairs of J. Crew jeans that have ALWAYS fit me and I've never thought twice about it. Lately, though, my beloved jeans can't fit around my beloved tummy, so I decided to get a couple of pairs to tide me over for a little while.

The jeans that I tried on and could not get to fit me at the store were FIVE sizes bigger than my beloved jeans.

Okay. I don't care if I'm not a size 2. But it's disconcerting to go up so many sizes without realizing, don't ya think? And again, it's not a matter of size, necessarily, but I need to have a pair of jeans that I can wear out and feel cute in and count on. You know what I mean. Grr. So I'm feeling a little self conscious about the old waistline today.

I will never be a girl who worries about what she eats...I just can't. I love good food, and I can't count calories. I CAN eat healthy, but if I want a damn ice cream sundae, I'm gonna have it.

So, I've decided that I will be a girl that exercises regularly. I walked every day this weekend and I'm going to keep trying to do it this week. I just want to feel PRETTY again...

P.S. I have to say that I didn't think snug Homespun pants would do wonders for the old ego either. But they are comfy and stretchy. Yay.

P.S. again. Poor Jacob had to listen to me rant about these things all weekend. He never knows what to say, because if he says, "Good for you! You should exercise and be healthy!" I think that he thinks I'm fat. And if he says "Don't worry honey, you're perfect!" I think he's lying. I was being such a GIRL about it this weekend!

Hi Amanda,

my name is Olivia, I?m from germany. I?m searching for a seven jeans, but I need a W33:-( Can you tell me, if this size exists by seven? I don?t find anything larger then a 32 :-( We have no store for this jeans in europe... please help me! Thank you in advanced :-)

i love your pants and i know how you feel. i'm sure it's not you, i think the clothing companies are putting the squeeze on us litteraly.

I knit while riding the recumbent bike at the gym! It's great. I knit and I forget how impossibly boring it is to sit there and ride a bike indoors for an hour. I got a few strange looks the first couple of times, but now the trainers are starting to joke that I should teach knit and fitness classes.

The worst sizing nightmare I've ever had was when I started looking at wedding dresses. Ugh. I ended up buying a non-wedding dress. And you do look great in those pants.

You look great!! You really do! I feel exactly the same way you do about eating. If I want a treat occasionally, I'm getting one. So off to the treadmill I go! LOL Those sweats look great--they really do.

Girl, Has 30 descended upon you yet? That may be the problem. I had a washboard stomach until I was about 29 1/2 and then all of a sudden I had a bicycle tire around the middle and something resembling back fat on the other side. Tis age. I, too, had to go up a few jean sizes, but trust me, it isn't the end of the world. With regular exercise, you'll get to where you're comfortable. BTW, you are the only one who thinks you have a tum. That pic makes you look like a size 2, so if you went up 5 sizes, I want to know how much you weighed when you started - 80 pounds? With Love from Ms. 32 and counting...

Dude! I can see the little pink "C" in the address box.

Your pants are one of only two pairs I have seen where the picture didn't scare me. Nice work! They look pretty stylish on you.

If I looked that good in knitted pants I would not worry about going up a couple of sizes. I think those low cut jean styles that are popular now are sized smaller anyway, so there :)

Love the pants, Carrie! Too cute and they look so comfy :) Who would have thought we would enjoy knitted pants? :) All I have to say about the weight is... save the ice cream sundays for a special treat, and walk every day... in no time, you will be fitting back into your fav jeans.

You are simply adorable in those fuzzy and comfy sweatpants! What a prolific knitter you are :-)

I think you look great at the weight you are. If you want that ice cream sundae, have it. Don't deprive yourself of things you want but don't feel badly about it.

Love ya!

XO,
Becky

Hi Carrie!

I got the package last night, I love it! THanks for the notepad...just silly enough to be my main notepad at work!

i feel your pain girlfriend. i have gained LITERALLY 20 pounds since i moved to chicago. yeah that was only six months ago. PATHETIC> i have gained 5 pounds since my physical assessment at the gym TWO WEEKS AGO. my body is in revolt against my skinny mind. :) i have one pair of work pants that fits. one pair! sucks!! we have to keep each other on the workout track!!

Those look so comfy! Ignore "size" what matters in the end is that you're healthy and fit and it sounds like you'e already on the road to getting fit.

Who needs jeans when those Homespun pants look so good? Seriously--snug was the way to go. They look adorable. And Maggie beat me to it about jeans sizing. I know that manufacturers have changed how sizes are labelled, and I think they do this about every year or so, because I have yet to go into a place to buy jeans and find the exact same jeans I bought before.

Hey Carrie! I like them fuzzy pants! Do they come in Camo? And please don't worry if you have 'filled out' a little bit. You still don't sweat much for a fat girl!

Love, Tommy

They don't look like tubes - they look like they have a very funky flare going on! And everyone is saying how comfy they are, perfect for lounging about in! You look fab, don't worry about it - exercise is definitely the way to go though, I think I'd be miserable if I couldnt eat stuff I like.

Dude, if those are goat legs, then goats must be really comfy! :)

Number One: You are a slim lady, lady!

Number Two: I'm willing to bet anything that the sizing standard changed and you are not 5 sizes larger than you were the last time you bought jeans. The jeans are sized differently.

I know your pain. It's not about WHAT size, it's about finding ANY size that fits just right. I discovered while trying on some Old Navy pants last week that my hips and my waist don't even wear the same size, so I understand.

But your handmade pants look just lovely, and if they're comfy to boot, then you win.

I totally feel your girly pains. Ryan gets mad at me for the same reason. Nothing he says is right--I can always twist it around and make it sound bad (not a good talent to possess! [sp?])

For what it's worth, and I'm totally jealous of you, and would kill to be your size! (And I'm not lying either ;) )

Jeans! Jeans never fit, even for people who are size zero like my prepubescent little sister.
I suggest Seven Jeans (Seven For All Mankind is the brand name), casually referred to as "sevens." They have them at Encore` downtown, and you can see what size fits you, and then buy them on EBAY!!!! I amcurrently watching several auctions for some of these fabulous jeans. They fit everyone. They are sexy. You can go out in them. Highly recommended A+++++ (to use a little ebay slang).
There is an answer: sevens. Then all the questions about am I fat become irrelevant, because the jeans fit you, you look good, and your boyfriend wants to take them off of you. Yeah.

the no sweat pants are great! I have to make some!

Were the jeans at J Crew? They changed all their sizing around this year; everything's crazy in there.

Carrie,

I am on the fitness track too - just stay motivated and you will do well. Knitting is not exactly conducive to activity, though! If only I could knit and run at the same time.....

(btw, your site is on my daily blog-stalking rounds.)

Hey Carrie - the pants are great - where can I find the pattern???????? I have to try a pair!! YOU look great - don't worry about those sizes! They change them every 5 years I swear!!! Walking is good for you though even if you don't loose weight - if you walk now when you get to me my age you will be able to sit and knit all you want without having to take a break to get your knees to be able to hold you up!!! Take care now.

Kathy

Carrie,

It's all in the water. The water here in Los Angeles has shrunk our clothes too! :-)

Loved the part about how you walked "all weekend". Now let's try for "all week" :-)

If Jacob says anything to you about your weight, just tell him it's because you're so happy with him - then let's see his face!

The pants look great and my daughter is going to make some too.

Have a great knitting day!

Carrie - The pants look great!... And you look damn cute in them! Don't worry about the five sizes - Blame the store not yourself!

Those sweat pants look great on you! When pants look that great, who cares what size they are.

Way to go!

Hi Carrie - I am a big fan of your blog and just had to comment... I totally feel your "girly" complaints. If I'm in a certain mood, I know that my fiance can't say anything about my weight or body without me reading into his comment too deeply. Yay for beloved girl moods. Don't you wish that stores could size women's clothes like men's - by inches instead of these random numbers? It would make (my) life so much easier! :) - And I'm loving the sweatpants!

You look very pretty in your no sweat pants! They came out so well. And look super comfy. I hope you love wearing them. Don't let those sizes get you down. You look damn good no matter what size they want to put on you. Plus, you can make your own pants now and put any size you want on 'em!
