Schmoo Views
Well, I'm glad that there are many opinions on both sides of the indoor - outdoor schmoo issue. (I know you really want me to shut up about it, but it's my blog and I'm really stressing again! Can you tell?) Unfortunately, the bottom line here is that our landlord has said that the dogs must stay outside. Grr. So, for the time being, I believe I will try to live with them being outside.
(I have to say that Chili, our bigger dog, prefers to be outside and will probably thrive in her new abode. Little Bella, however, is smaller (20 lbs) and might not be so comfy staying outside all the time. So a compromise could be to bring Bella in more often. Maybe.)Having said all that, here's a closer view of the doggy mansion that we prepared for the little ones yesterday. The wheelbarrow might give you some idea of how tall it is. And what's that? You want to see what's inside? Well, I think inside there might be a local farmboy working on some farm chores...
oh, my bad. That's just Jacob raking some of the hay and cedar chips we put in there for the doggers. (Isn't he cute?) It really does look comfortable and warm cozy and happy in there...it's just different. Ya know? I'll be better once I've seen how happy they are....
This whole thing has made me think how I'm going to be a freakin' anxious mother. (No offense intended by comparing my dogs to someone's children.) If I can't send my little schmoos out in the yard, where they're bound to be happy and frolic in the sunshine, how will I send my child to daycare? Or kindergarten? Oh, the anxiety. I can't even imagine. I am, admittedly, a pretty anxious girl. And this I know. But how will I handle it?
I guess it'll be awhile before I have to worry about that anyways. Just food for thought....
I haven't been knitting at all since the move started...I've finished everything on my little cotton self-designed tank except for the straps, and I'm having trouble figuring out what to do with them. I may need to snap a picture of the tank withouth straps and get some opinions.
I also want to start working on that sassy Dale of Norway halter that Carolyn sent me, and it's starting to warm up just enough to wear a little number like that.
Maybe that's why I'm so wound up. I haven't been knitting enough. Too bad I have to move heavy furniture tonight and probably won't knit any. Maybe Wednesday night *fingers crossed*?

Hi Carrie,
Love your Blog! Love your no-sweat pants! Just wondering what size you made as yours seem to be the nicest fitting ones out there! Thank you!

isn't it great how the knitblog community cares so much about each other and everyone's pets?!? i love reading the notes from everyone saying they're in various other cities worrying about your schmoos!! ;) i get all anxious about my cats and definately could not handle them being outside at all, let alone all the time!

If Chili likes to be outside, then fine, she can be outside. But Bella, little bellaschmoo...I don't see her doing very well at night in a shed. Can't she sleep in the kitchen or something? 24-hour a day outside dog = no sweet licks on your elbow when you're at the computer and no sleepy dog curled up on your pillow asleep when you get home from work. Hmmmmm.... it doesn't look like there's much compromising going on from Jacob's side... just a thought. I think you should put your foot down. Bella is your baby.

I laughed at your 100 things about me. I hate carbonated beverages too! There can't be that many of us out there, LOL

Carrie... I need your new mailing address, please. I have a little package for you. It was going to be a surprise, but now you know. But you don't know what it is or what it's for! :) Send me an email or post it in our group, k?

Hi Carrie -- I looked for an email address to write this to, but I couldn't find one, so i'll just blather on in here.
Re: my haircut. I don't have especially thick hair. I have A LOT of hair, but each individual hair is really, really fine, if that makes any sense.
Most people would say, I think, that short cuts work really well on fine hair, since when you have fine hair, the longer it gets, the flatter it tends to be, since it weighs you down.
I LOVE my short haircut and would recommend it! I won't lie, there are some days when it really bothers me and I feel like I'm missing that "femininity" that I had with my once-very-long hair, but most of the time I'm just happy I don't have to worry about brushing it anymore. I just put some goop in it and go!
My best advice is to find a stylist you trust (do you have fabulous short-haired friends who like their stylist? That's always a place to start) and get his/her advice. Most stylists are willing to meet with you for a consultation and they can help you decide, based on your hair type, face shape, habits, etc., what the best cut for you is.
And if, for some mad reason, you happen to be in Chapel Hill, NC, come see me and I'll take you to my stylish who specializes in short cuts and is totally awesome!
(Whew. That was long.)

The good thing about kids (vs. dogs) is that eventually they learn to talk and say things like, "I'm FINE, Mom, you don't need to STAY." This from a three-year-old on her first day of preschool. Oh. Well, okay then.

i'm with kendra, you make sure you give them a lot of extra loving because i don't need to be in my apartment in chicago stressing out over two dogs in georgia who don't know me from adam!!!! my mom has always treated our dogs better than she has treated her own children (yes i'm speaking from experience) so i can feel your pain with trying to figure out whether it's right to leave them out there or not. just make sure they get lots of extra attention and treats and you know don't let them get all dirty and matted and full of burrs like some people's outside dogs.

Hi Carrie! I haven't had time to catch up on your blog since getting back from the wedding but I've scanned enough to say I love the new look! Great job, girl! I'm revamping my website, too, so I know how much time it takes! Oh, yeah, I also visited the gallery and you are the only person who looks tiny in those sweat pants. I think you must have bought those old jeans in the '80's when sizing was different! I'll explore the site more soon - can't wait!

Hey Carrie,
I just found your blog yesterday, and I'm still busy catching up! Love your knitting, love the schmoos, love the entertaining glimpses into your life. Dont worry too much about your boys, they are going to LOVE their new home and all that independence. They reckon your heart rate slows down by 15 beats per minute when you knit, so sit yourself down and knit all that stress out!

I know exactly how you feel. I live in a small apartment and when I haven't seen or heard from my cat, I get anxious, even though I know he hasn't escaped anywhere. Now get to knitting!

Trust me - I have a dog AND a 4-year-old and most days it is pretty easy to send the kid off to school (everyone needs silence!!!). Dogs are harder because they are cuddly and sweet and aren't sassy with you! But little boys DO give great hugs! :)

Since they both look like Terrier mixes - just be careful they don't dig under the fence. I am sure your schmoos will be just fine. Start 'em off slow - have them stay outside while you are home.

I'm feeling the same kind of anxiety about sending my son to daycare. He's off to school first thing tomorrow morning :(. Like me, you're probably doing the best thing you can for those dogs. They're going to happy and they will be just fine.

What a great picture of Jacob! Good luck with the move! I don't envy all of the hard work, but it must be so amazing to start a new life in a new house. Make sure to get some more sittin' in, you hear? :)

They're going to have a good time out there, especially with each other and their adorable "cottage". It's understandable to be stressed tho, so don't feel guilty about that!

Aah, Chili and Bella will be fine. If I've ever seen two dogs who love the outdoors more, well, I haven't....
I think that you are both good owners for moving to bigger quarters. Now they have a big, safe backyard, and a fence with no holes, and a comfy house of their own! My schmoos are jealous.
My schmoos have to stay in the basement all day with the rats. :)

Okay, if that makes you an anxious mother, what does it make me??? I'm freaking out at the prospect of those two little pups excluded from their "pack" and banished to the outside! And I don't even know them. Jeepers! At least they have each other.
