My Country Home

I am tired.

I'm not quite as tired as Jacob and his dad Tommy who spent the entire weekend building a fence for the backyard in our new country home. You can see Tommy modeling the new fancy gate to our fence on the left (click to enlarge.) That little house in the back right corner of the picture is the smokehouse that is going to become a dog house for the schmoos. And you can kind of see what the whole fence itself looks like if you look next to the gate. Yes, it's a little piece of doggy heaven, complete with their own doggy mansion and 250 feet of fencing to keep them in their own not-so-little doggy run.
Despite the luxury of the aforementioned dog lodgings, I am still nervous about leaving my schmoos outside all the time. I really think there are two schools of thought on this issue, and it all goes back to how you grew up. I grew up with my Lhasa Apso named Ashlei constantly in my bed, on the couch, underfoot. So I am used to dogs being inside animals and often joining me on the furniture. Now Jacob grew up differently. They ALWAYS had dogs, but they were always outside. Now, Jacob's parents' dogs are the happiest, most well-behaved, healthiest dogs I know, bar none. They live out in their backyard in a large kennel and they are awesome. And I know that my little schmoos are probably going to be happier outside, since, ya know, they're DOGS and dogs like to eat dirt and dig holes and chase squirrels and run around in the sun. But what if Bella thinks I don't love her anymore? Or what if a bad man comes in the middle of the night and STEALS MY SCHMOOS out of the yard?Or, what if she cries all the time? And what if I miss her while I am sleeping? I woke up this morning to a cute little Bella-schmoo curled right up next to me..I will miss that! The real problem here, obviously, is that I can't handle the change. Not the freakin' dogs. So bear with me if I'm a little emotional this week...I'm letting my little schmoos go out into the real world of dogness, and I'm a little afraid.

We moved all weekend...the only things left are a piano, a king sized bed, a large couch, and two enormous dressers. That's all!! Ha Ha. But hopefully we will be able to get it moved by Wednesday. I can't even really think straight about this weekend because I'm so exhausted. All I know is that my mom and Jacob's parents helped tremendously and we would have been lost without them. THANK YOU!

Also saw Cathy's band and they rocked...when they played the theme song for "The Price is Right," I got to 'come on down!' It was almost as good as the real thing. Almost.

And, check out this fabulous sweater that Jenny knitted...how cute is that? And how cute is her hair?

I pray you bear me henceforth from the noise and rumour of the field, where I may think the remnant of my thoughts in peace, and part of this body and my soul with contemplation and devout desires. ativan buy ativan I, thus neglecting worldly ends, all dedicated To closeness and the bettering of my mind.

The worst is notSo long as we can say, "This is the worst." lipitor buy lipitor The peace of heaven is theirs that lift their swords, in such a just an charitable war.

It depends on the dog. If my dog were left outside at night, she would be HOWLING all night. She is NOT an outdoor dog! However, she does love the outdoors. The best thing we ever did was to install a dog door. This means she can come and go as she pleases! At night I close the door so no weird critters can come into our house (not that they would, but you know ...). If Jacob really doesn't want the dogs taking over the house, how about if you put up a little gate or make them little beds next to the dog door?

I read Bethany's comment above and finally realized THAT was why we didn't have dogs growing up. Oh. Good thing SHE knew why. Your pups will LOVE being outside soooo much, and then they'll love it when you come out to them, too. They'll be thrilled all the way around. Moving is just SO hard, you hang in there.

Congratulations on so much! New house, part of a band, being called down for the Price is Right... so many good things! I'm sure the pups'll do fine anywhere; my mom wouldn't even let us have dogs because we didn't have sheep, and she thought dogs absolutely had to have a job. Just don't let Jacob start using the schmoos to round up squirrels for dinner, and it'll all be great.

My dad is an "outside" dog person and he said it was because he was allergic to the dander of their skin, but I think he has a phobia of dog hair getting on his clothes, in his food, or in his nose. I know Jacob is a more general "outside" dog person, but maybe you should ask what about them being inside is not cool and try to fix the problem so they can at least sleep inside at night. I agree, there should be some middle ground.
Sincerely,
"Inside" dog person

No, no, no.....no schmoo's outside at night!!!!! You and Jacob meet halfway. Schmoo's outside during the day, in at night. You can't do that to those little guys, they are house schmoos!!!

Look at it this way (and I hope it never happens). You leave the schmoos outside at night and someone breaks into your house and the schmoo's can't get in the house to save you and Jacob. They need to be near you at night so that you can rest peacefully and they can do their job of protecting you.

Outside during the day (not when it's real cold or snowing)is good for them, but at night, they need to be with their adoptive parents inside!

When we move into our house (it has 3 yards) our dogs will always be out during the day, and in at night. And I will always be a good citizen and only have the legal limit of animals, just like Jillian Barbarie!

Come on Jacob, meet Carrie halfway with the schmoos.

I must say, I've known a lot of really happy dogs who spent a lot of time outside in a nice big yard, but who also came inside a lot and even slept inside. I guess I'm just saying that if you want to find some middle ground between shmoos-outside-all-the-time and shmoos-always-in-the-house, there area lot of possiblities there. It probably would be really fun for them to have lots of outside time, but it doesn't seem necessarily necessary to deprive you, or them, of nighttime snuggling if that's what you want.

Don't worry about your schmoos! It'll be hard at first, and they will cry and want to be inside. But in the long run, it might even be better for them! Dogs love being outside. And they're going to be in a DOGGIE MANSION. It'll be great, you'll see :-)

jenny rocks! i'm going to stich'n'bitch at her house tonight.

Schmoos have to be alone outside all the time at your new place!? They'll love it, but they're going to miss you.
