I'm a Loser, Baby

Well, I didn't win the karaoke contest. But we had a darn good time!!

Seriously, we had the best time. (Those are all the pictures I got before my batteries died.. #1 is me and Jacob, #2 is Jacob, Cathy (my twin) and her fiance, #3 is my friend Natalie) Here's how the evening went: there were 14 contestants. Each contestant sang TWO songs. (And the contest didn't start until 10:00 or later, so it was a late night!) There were more girls than boys...and everyone was pretty darn good. I ended up singing Flashdance for my first number, and went for a slow one for my second number -- Midnight Train to GA. The crowd loved #2 especially!
It was really, really crowded and noisy and every contestant had a little brigade of fans who yelled and cheered for them. Now, the host warned us that audience noise wasn't really a part of it, that it was our voices and the difficulty of our song choice! (tee hee. this was serious business.)

At any rate, the girl who won first place completely rocked my face off. She sang "All That Jazz" and danced up a storm and she WAILED. Then, for #2, she freakin' pulled out the Tina Turner version of "Proud Mary." Oh yeah. And she did the Tina Turner dance, too. (doot doo doo doo, doot doo doo doo) So, she was totally awesome and deserved first place.

(Now, the second place girl....hmmm. I'm not gonna be a sore loser, but let's just say that she was okay. And "I Will Survive" does not count as a difficult song choice in my book.) But I digress....

The best part of the night, by far, were all of my friends, my sister and her fiance, one of my co-workers! coming to a crowded bar and cheering their heads off for me. Isn't it fun when all your social groups combine into one big party? (When the winners were being announced, my friend Natalie, pictured above on the right, kept saying, "And the winner is ...Carrieoke! " and then yelling and screaming at the top of her lungs. It was funny.) It was just all around a really fun, silly, drunken, karaoke fest with my fun friends.

Of course, I would have loved the $1000. But there's always next time, right? And karaoke for karaoke's sake is outrageously fun anyways. Thanks for all the well wishes and good lucks and help with my song choice and outfit, etc. (FYI, I went with a purple halter dress that Jacob gave me a long time ago, and a pair of heels. It was a trendy classy look. )

Knitting! Did I knit this weekend? You bet I did. My orange and white tank top is almost finished, just a few more rows on the back and seam it up! Yahoo! I got to knit that while driving to Atlanta on Saturday....I also randomly decided to make a felted bag on Friday night. I've had this black wool sweater on the needles for a while that I just wasn't feeling anymore...my gauge was off, it's getting hot, blah blah blah. So, I cut it up, sewed it into a bag, and felted the darn thing. I added a little knitted decoration, and .... voila!

isn't she cute? you can kind of see my hands in the pic to get a feel for how big she is. I'm still deciding on wooden handles or knitted straps...what do you think?

Well, I gotta go work some. I'm going to the Britney Spears concert tomorrow night!!!! Tickets courtesy of my fabulous twin sister! Acckk!!!!!

We have some salt of our youth in us. clomid buy clomid Though this be madness, yet there is method in 't.

Britney was awesome... try not to be so judgmental, Beth. We certainly had fun!

Carrie, you were awesome at Wild Wing, you were number one to me, baby. I had a great time. Your flower purse is really great! Keep it up girl!

Beth - we absolutely paid money to see her, and IT. WAS. AWESOME.

Yahoo!

spear britany please. You are really paying money to see her? I am sorry, but you went to the bottom of my list.

Totally go with wooden handles. The purse is great! Sorry you didn't win...but I agree, "I Will Survive" is not that difficult, and frankly, at this point I would be more impressed with the person who sang it like Cake does.

I love, love, love that purse. I think it could be cute with knit straps or purse handles...Maybe the bamboo ones. Those always look cute. They sell them at Hobby Lobby and Hancock Fabrics...

Awww, that's too bad! It looks like you all had a lot of fun though. BTW, very hot bag! Hot!

You *were* robbed! But it's good to hear you had fun. The felted bag is tres cute. I also vote for bamboo handles...

Isn't Britney injured? John and I looked at tickets online the other day for her show in Mpls, and they were $600! Yikes! Party like a rock star, woman!

damn, carrie!!! so sorry you didn't win. midnight train to georgia is one of my favs to sing along to in the car at the top of my lungs without a care in the world for who might see me through the window. that purse is toooooo cute!!!!!

i will concede to your judgement on the girl who won. but "i will survive" got second place?? i fucking don't think so. that is my #1 karaoke rule: NO ONE SINGS THAT SONG. don't watch "duets" (heidi, what are you saying) that movie fucking sucks ass. so stupid. i guess gwynnie is just so fucking snooty that when she tries to go low class in the movies she can't fucking do it because those are by far the movies she sucks in the worst. YOU WERE ROBBED>

Aw, I'm sorry you didn't get the $1000...but I'm glad you had fun. And brilliant bag! I'm in the middle of making another bag as well, and I'm going to put up a picture on my site later tonight. My first attempt at a fair isle pattern; it was hard! I did not have enough hands.

You are my Karaoke Superstar and I don't care who says different.
I love that purple dress by the way. Good choice!
Your bag is very cute. I like the colors.

You're such a good sport Carrie!

I'd be up there yelling, "it's mine, it's mine, I'm the winner".

Let me put my singing voice to you this way. Remember Lucy Ricardo on I LOVE LUCY, how she sang......well, I don't even come close to sounding that good! And could you imagine me with a few drinks in me too!

Okay, now that I have given you a laugh for the day, make that the week, possibly month....have a great singing and knitting week girl!

Cheers from Los Angeles!

Yeah you should have won.

Dumb question: Have you seen the movie "Duets"?

that bag is so cute!!!! how did you attatch the flower? pre or post felting?

I am sure you were awesome! You got all the good vibes I could throw your way on Friday.

I vote for wooden handles - more springy - maybe bamboo or some such if you can find it?

I can't believe you posted that hideous picture of me. I'm taking away your Britney tix. You were awesome on Friday! That freaky girl should so NOT have won second place...
