Airbrushing is the new yoga
So, my friend Leslie took care of the schmoos for us this weekend while we were rocking Panama City Beach. We decided to bring her back a present in true PCB style:

the schmoos love leslie!
Leslie SAID she was going to wear it to work today, but I have my doubts. Maybe we'll go to karaoke tonight and she'll rock it there.
Here's one last pic from the beach, and something for all the Grammar Avengers to giggle about. When we were at St. Andrew's State Park, this sign describing some greenery made me laugh because the plant is called "Woody Goldenrod." (Sorry, I'm immature. Ha ha.) So I took a pic (click to enlarge):
but then I looked closer at the sign....do you see the mistake? click here to see it!
I mean, come on, Florida State Park people! Sound it out. S-H-U-R-B is curb. Rhymes with blurb. or Serb. S-H-R-U-B is shrub. Rhymes with flub. or tub. This moment of self-righteous spelling was brought to you by the Grammar Avengers. Go team.
Anyways, in knitting news, one afghan square is drying right now after being blocked to appropriate 8 x 8 measurements. I am finishing my second tonight. And the pants....oh, the pants. Will they ever be finished? I am 19 inches into the 30inch long pant leg and it feels never-ending. I just want to get to the top of the pants! And then, I will be finished! Is it going faster for you guys who knit them flat? Maybe knitting them in the round is causing a slow down....
At any rate, when these projects are done, I seriously need to do some summery knitting. I'm talking tanks and shells, people. No more of this wool sweater crap for me. So, what yarn do I use do make summery clothes? I am not experienced in this field. And, I'm talking affordable yarn, so Debbie Bliss and Rowan are out. (For now, until I win my $1000 next weekend at karaoke.) Suggestions? Anyone?
I sent my first Knitting Secret Pal package yesterday! What fun!

I worked with Cotton Ease and it has held up well and it has such fun summery colors. I am knitting up my Kyoto with some Elann Sonata which at $2 a ball is pretty cheap. They just added a whole bunch of new colors for Spring too!

Dude, there's a Hobby Lobby right by my house. You had better come visit this weekend. If you come, I'll buy you a skein of yarn! :) I'm bribing you.
I'm glad to see that there are many grammar nerds out there. I knew you were nerdy, but so many others!

I agree with Sarah B., Hobby Lobby sells a great cotton yarn called Sinfonia. It knits up beautifully. I have even replaced it in a pattern calling for Rowan and all was well. Cotton Ease is great as well although it is thicker and if you are looking for a thin summer garment it may not suit you...Oh and welcome back. It looks like you and Jacob had a great time...

I made a Bob sweater last summer out of Sugar n' Cream cotton! I used up a 1 lb. ball plus about 20 yds. of a little ball (isn't that the most annoying thing?). It was a gift for my mom, so I'm not sure how it's holding up, but it can't be too bad!
Also, Elann has some cotton on cones for extremely cheap... Naturelle 8/8 at $7.25 for 840 yds... I haven't tried it, though, so no testimonials.

Lion Brand Cotton-Ease!! Just like Rowan's all Seasons cotton but MUCH cheaper! Happy knitting. I wish you were closer, I have so much yarn (shudder). Maybe I should email you to see if you want anything from my cotton stash (w/Pics of course).
Smootcches,
Stacy

Shurb! Ha.
On the recommendation of Bonne Marie, I bought some Aunt Lydia's Cotton Denim at Hobby Lobby recently. I have yet to do anything with it, but it's $3.99 for about 400 yards. Two of those will easily get you a tank top! And it comes in mainly shades of blue, but I'm hoping I'll be able to dye the natural color that I got.

First I was giggling at the airbrushing, but then I got to "Shurb" and lost it. Way to take one for the team, Carrie.
Cheapie yarn: check Elann. They've got tons of cotton right now--check out the Filatura Brilla!

Yes, Cotton-Ease (Lion Brand) is cheap and washes great. I LOVE it. Micro-Spun (also Lion) is really good-feeling but is all acrylic. Also - try e-bay. I have found some great Rowan and Jaeger stuff there for pretty cheap (seller 4to4). And since you are working on summer stuff, the 10 balls that comes in a package will be plenty. Good luck!

I love your spelling find (ya big goober!).
I can't wait to see some pants! Oh, I am going to knit my tank top in some kind of baby acrylic...need something soft and washable for hot (sweaty) summertime. However, I wonder if there is somekind of huge wool sale on account of the upcoming summer.
:)

Nope, knitting them in the flat does not make them go faster. At least not to me. I've only finished the front of one pantleg. :-) Granted it only took me two sessions to finish (two fairly long sessions) but it seemed like forever! There will be a light at the end of the tunnel! Oh, and on good yarns, I haven't worked with it but I hear Cotton-ease is good and I got some Sinfonia cotton from Hobby Lobby that I'm going to make a tank out of. I used it for a swatch and liked it. Tahki Cotton Classic is usually reasonably priced, too.
