Yay, It's Friday.
Yay! I've been playing with my banner again, do you like? It's fun to have Photoshop and fast internet....the possibilities are endless.
All I've been doing is knitting on my log cabin square/blanket. This is very irresponsible of me...I have a top down raglan and a Chickami to finish! But my little Log Cabin square keeps calling to me...please, knit another row....it's so fast and easy...and I keep doing it. Probably will all weekend too. So there!
A couple of days ago, Jacob actually presented this question to me: "If you had to choose between never knitting again, or never seeing me again, what would you pick?" Ouch. I guess I've been knitting a little too much lately and neglecting my boyfriend. Of course I pretended to think about it...but really now. Did he have to even ask the question? (And yes, I would pick him, even though that would never, ever, ever happen...right?) So, note to self: spend a little less time knitting on the couch and little more time with Jacob. That I can do!
I've recently been reading Elizabeth Zimmerman's Knitting Without Tears. She is so funny, and so down to earth in the book, and really makes me think again that I don't always have to follow a pattern and I can knit however I feel comfortable. This passage particularly makes me laugh:
'Reminds me of the infuriating remark, "I've always wanted to knit, but I just can't." Pish, my good woman, you can plan meals, can't you? You can put your hair up? You can type, write fairly legibly, shuffle cards? All of these are more difficult than knitting. You just don't want to knit, so why pretend that you do?'
Love that. And she said 'Pish' , which seems like a good exclamation to me. Her whole book is full of dry wit and intelligent information about knitting. I also especially like her take on gauge...she almost suggests completely ignoring the gauge on patterns. Now, I know I can't look at yarn and know what needles I need, but it made me feel a lot better about having to go up or down needles sizes so often.
Sorry this turned into a book review, but this book rocks.
Hope you have a happy weekend filled with knitting...I plan to!

My books came! Fast. Now Elizabeth Zimmerman and I are talking politely behind our hands about our superior intelligence. She's hysterical.

Look what I miss when I'm moving! Love love love love love the new banner. And why don't you like the cardie? Call it what I did, when I made the Must Have too small - it's your around-the-house, wear with sweats 'cause you're cold kind of sweater. No one will see it, but it feels good to wear because you made it.

Great banner! I especially love the little thing that looks like a sherrif's star on the lady on the left. Very cute!

I am sitting on my hands waiting for that book to show up at my doorstep from Amazon, and it's hard! It shipped on Friday, so hopefully sometime this week.

Your banner is so fun, Carrie! I can't get enough of those fashionable retro ladies.
My partner is a bit of a knitting widower too. Just make sure that every now and then you make Jacob a pair of socks. :)

Hey Carrie, I love that Elizabeth Zimmerman quote. I have friends who I feel like saying those exact words to. I was wondering about that top down raglan. I thought maybe you wanted lots of little strings. I probably should have said something...huh?

Yes, Carrie, I love the banner. Your site is looking really good. I haven't read that book yet.... guess I need to do so.
Have a fun weekend.

My favorite Elizabeth Zimmerman quote is one where she talks about how it's nice to have been together with someone (in her case, "the Old Man") long enough to enjoy a good silence. I think it is from Knitter's Almanac. She goes on to say that a good silence is as much fun as a good "argle-bargle", which after a moment of thought I realized was her way of saying "argument". She does seem like someone who would enjoy a good argle-bargle.

You remember "guitar face," the Taylor-esque phenomenon that drives me up the wall when I'm trying to say something to him and he's just staring at me, mouth half open, dinking away on the guitar and not listening to me at all?
Maybe you have "knitting face?"
No worries...I'm sure Jacob understands and loves you anyway, just like I love Taylor anyway.

Okay, so I misspelled "friend". I'm coming down with a crapy cold so give me a break.
Had to write this, misspelling "friend" really bothered me!!! Maybe it wouldn't have bothered me if I wasn't referring to you Carrie. :->
Tootles!

I love the banner. I stopped by yesterday and there was one lady up there, now there's two. Love it. Poor Jacob! At least he knows you would pick him over knitting.

Poor Jacob! Don't hurt his 'wittle' feeings!. Now, had that been MY boyfriend, I'd tell him "you guess". Ha, ha.
Give Carrie photoshop & fast internet and what do you get....."girl gone wild". Give Karen photoshop and fast internet and what do you get....Karen. Oh well, some day I'll learn this stuff with the help of my good freind in Athens!
I really think you need to spend all of Saturday with Jacob. I want you to spend all day taking him out to every yarn shop you know, so that you two can bond :->
You two have a great weekend.
